4 clases in BF games are outdated and way too restrictive. It was a time for change.
BUT:
• Poor balance. Some specialist are useful at all stages, some specialists are useful only in a few niche scenarios.
• Visually, personality and lore wise just poor fit the Battlefield game. Don't know another hero/specialist games with this bland AND annoying personalities.
• Barely any skins, camo options are just small trims. Skins are pristine, not damaged/worn, everybody is black (except for the arctic angel skin) in the snow map... Masked-skins take a long time to unlock.
• 10 heroes in the 128-man game, way too little, 4/year is not enough.
• BFV sub-classes could have warned people up, but it was a disaster, literally abandoned before even the launch of the game and deployed with two perks per class that didn't make any difference (except for spawning on other beacons)
• Really hard to resupply if you aren't following the zerg.
Battlefield-breaking abilities like unlimited flight, all items for all classes, C5 drones, or complete loadout changes on the field. The game just cannot be pushed this drastically in one jump, let alone not even Beta-tested abilities... Good job whoever organizes BF Beta test on LOCKING ALL EQUIPMENT/VEHICLES UNDER PROGRESSION. Most things in the Beta build couldn't be tested beacuse of progression-locks.
If you are beta-testing a multiplayer game, unlock everything in the beta from the start. Nobody beta tests their Moba with free heroes or Card game with starter decks only. You test the game with all the pieces...
My solution:
• Leave specialist Ability + Perk, but obviously balance them and nerf game-changing abilities
• Add generic looking skins + no-personality cheers or whatever those are called.
• Add dirt/shader overrides so the skin picks on the map, and you don't have dark soldiers rolling in snow. + more camo trims are like BFV where the player picks type, but doesn't pick camo color. It is per-terrain camo.
• Ammo depots or slowly regening gadget ammo
Battlefield 2042 "universe" failed. At this point, maps are random terrains people battle in, heroes are random avatars with a fixed ability + perk. Continuing with the story, lore or character-appeal will get you nowhere. It is also very damaging to microtransaction revenue, but it is what it is.
I think having skins only was a mistake, and having the BFV generic equipment + fixed hero skins is the way to go in the future. I think there have been good-enough concept art for soldiers in BF42, I could see myself purchasing some skin overrides if there were any skins like that...
Little by little getting into black ops boris skins:
