Thank fucking god. I really like Last Surprise separate from Persona 5, but when paired with it, it was so incredibly tired after hearing the opening minute or so thousands of times over the course of a 100 hour game I didn't like that much.

Sounds pretty nice but it is gonna be hard to top Last Surprise imo. Excited to hear the chorus eventually.

Not in a million years. Some of those dungeon themes were baaaaad. Mementos? Zzzzz. Maybe if all you've heard from him is P3, P4 and P5 and only remember the best themes from P5, but there's plenty of duds in there. I definitely think it's one of his weakest OSTs.

Blooming Villain
Last Surprise

Beneath the Mask
Layer Cake

Whims of Fate
The Days When My Mother Was There

I feel like the preview stops before it really gets good so it's hard for me to make a judgment but so far I like it enough.

I like the theme (at least from what we've heard here). Definitely different from Last Surprise but I think I can get used to this. Interesting that they're doing the reverse of P4G this time with the battle music. Now Last Surprise is gonna be the "Shit, I messed up" music.

I mean I think out of the Persona game Meguro composed for, then P4 wipes the floor with it. Love the good vibes that one has. And Digital Devil Saga definitely wipes the floor with it too. And Nocturne. You sort of played into what I was saying, you listed like 10 tracks, the majority of the P5 album is pretty mediocre to me still. Alright to listen to within the game but most of his other work I can listen to outside of the games, I just didn't get that from P5.

Because of the lyrics and because the first time you hear it is during a preemptive attack, I thought Last Surprise was a song that you got during preemptive encounters at first. This really should be reversed.

Nah. New theme should be the one you hear more.

They played the old theme for preemptive attacks in Golden and I barley got to hear the new music because of it.

Been addicted to this song ever since Kasumi's trailer. Hope we hear the whole thing before release.

For me, it goes:

Instrumental Last Surprise (PV02) > Take Over = Last Surprise

I'm not feeling it as much as Last Surprise, which is pretty similar to how I felt about Time To Make History. I like the parts outside of the hook, but the main hook uses those frumpy horns I'm not a big fan of.

I think it's fair to say that you may have liked P4's music better than P5's, but I wholeheartedly disagree that his work is getting worse overall. The range in P5's stuff was fantastic and I liked that it wasn't just repeating what I liked about P4. Guy's music still slaps IMO.

Oh man, I think that's what makes me like it so much. There are big band elements to Take Over that aren't in other tracks that I'm really into.

I like the concept of using horns, but I wish they'd use actual horns rather than that really old sound font at this point lol. It's such a trademark of Meguro's stuff at this point that I have a love/hate relationship with it.

For what it's worth though, I think this song rolls into battle a little better than Last Surprise did, even though, as of right now, I like Last Surprise more as a song.

I love Last Surprise but after like 150 hours of it (factoring in NG+) I'm ready for something new.

Though my purchase of this game will probably depend on story details.

I have listened to Last Surprise countless times and I am upset that if I replay this game I will not be listening to it countless more times.

I've never heard PV02 till now, it's really good

Real bummer that it's not in the game
It surprised me at the time, because Persona 4 had the instrumental version of the battle theme play during the first fight, but Persona 5 didn't follow in its footsteps. I figured PV02's track was designed for that.

That's how it should have been in Persona 4 Golden. "Time to Make History" for pre-emptive attack and "Reach Out to the Truth" for normal battle.
Nah, the punishment for missing a preemptive strike was that you had to hear Time to Make History. It's this game that's got it flipped.

Wasn't it the complete opposite with P4G? With the the original song playing during preemptive attacks, while the new one was for normal battles?

As other users have said, I would have preferred they kept Last Surprise for pre-emptive attacks, the opening of the song is perfect for it - it was always so satisfying! It's still one of the few battle themes I'm not actually tired of yet, lol. I don't mind Take Over, but it seems like it would make a better normal battle theme.

sounds good, and i actually think it makes sense to use it as the pre-emptive theme. most of the time you'll be legit surprised when an enemy gets the jump on you, so it's kind of a neat inversion.
