Hi y'all. Just wondering if anybody else been in the situation where you grew up speaking one language, then English replaced it, and now you can barely speak the old one any more? It's always bothered me to see how others can speak to their parents so easily while I'm struggling to form coherent sentences.
What kind of party is a spider party?things slow down around this time of the day :D people start to go to bed zzzzz
BUT HERE. IT IS FRIDAY NIGHT \o/
I know how this feels. Unfortunately I was never great at speaking my language although I think I was actually better when I was really young. It's hard for me to have conversations with my parents because I can only speak in very simple terms. My wife on the other hand speaks our language fluently and has a really great relationship with my mom. I often joke to her that my mom may love me more, but she likes her more.
I do feel ashamed about it though. Part of that has to do with being one of the oldest of those born and raised in America. I'm not a kid or a teenager, I'm 34 and most of my peers can still speak it fluently or at least decently. I'd rate myself as 5/10 at best so I can barely get by and am pretty nervous when approached by an older person by myself at family stuff lol.
Ha thanks everyone dont mean to be so dramaticI have a lot of cousins like this.
Tell us a bit more about yourself! Why do you feel this way?
There's still time for that! Do you live in a decent-sized city?I guess Im just wishing I joined clubs and things with my peoples. I sort of do that with the family and we have family friends but Id like to meet more people, preserve my native language, etc
I do! Or at least close to one. Just have to find something and work up the motivation to go.There's still time for that! Do you live in a decent-sized city?
I kind of wish I learned to read and write myself...
Hello everyone!
I think I'm Asian so here I am. But my place is not represented in that map in the OP. :(

Saw them make Mochi in person while in Japan one year, was awesome to see. They even gave hammers to us so we could try it out too.
If I ever visit Japan, I think I'd end up eating nothing but ramen
I ate way more sushi than I did ramen in Japan. There was some really good ramen too, but some of it was super super salty.

Which is we we have to reappropriate it. It's like the rapper Lil B reclaiming the word "based" as a positive word instead of relating to cocaine abuse, like in the 90s and 00s.Yeah, it's a sad state of affairs when I no longer associate the number 88 with luck or Kill Bill.
You can become honorary Asian after you post enough food picsHola. I'm not Asian, but since this is an open community, I always wanted to participate and never got around to it. So I'm taking this fresh start as an opportunity to do that. (waves)
Spent way too much time on ERA last night, so it's been a very lazy morning for me :-\
Hey my fellow storm troopers... finally got an account here. Now to find a suitable new avatar
