what was wrong with jojo and asuka?
Asuka had a pretty nasty and graphic torture scene. Not the worst in anime by a longshot, but still pretty bad. Not sure if that's a critique, but it felt like it was leaning into torture porn to me.

Star Twinkle Precure 1

Time for some new stars to twinkle with Star Twinkle. Hugtto started off relatively grounded. It presented some intrigue about Hana herself to help make us get really invested into her character right away. This decides to screw it and go full sci-fi right away. Two motifs again with space and art. So does Hikaru's notebook have power, or is it latent within her? That first space trip was more weird than space-like. Likely longer foreshadowing. Hikaru might have an interesting family situation, so hopefully that's elaborated on. Fuwa acts childish, but they don't seem to be treating her as a baby, and she can talk, so hopefully there isn't more child care this season. What Hikaru lacks in depth right now she makes up for with her infectious glee about aliens. I'm glad to see them going full on alien attack this season. I guess fairies have their own universal translation? Or did Plonk take Japanese lessons? Lala is probably destined to become my favorite character, but she took a backseat this episode. Hikaru does seem to have a death wish. Very nice transformation for Star. Always love it when the enemy has mooks. Nice space fighting style. The rocket crash probably should've created a lot more destruction.

Good first episode. Not in the way Hugtto started off strong, as this relied more on flash than substance, but the flash was pretty good. Looking forward to this season, and I hope they go full space-opera with. Don't hold back on the cool stuff.

I dropped Kitaro like 15-20 eps back but you'd think ratman would've learned his lesson after turning people to diamonds.

Morose Mononkean Season 2 Episode 5

Poor Hanae, but I think the executive plan backfired or something as something like this ought to cause Hanae to have his powers develop exponentially faster.

Sad for fuzzy not getting any love from the broken and shaken Hanae.

JoJo's: Babyface is an extremely problematic Stand for reasons which I feel are obvious.

Asuka: This week's episode contained an extended and graphic torture scene. I consider it to be torture porn for a number of reasons.

1. I don't think it was necessary to move the plot forward.
2. I don't think it respects that character who is suffering, because they're essentially used as a plot-device to motivate the protagonist.
3. I don't think that it's necessary to depict the scene in graphic detail over several minutes.

What's even worse is that the same scene exists in the manga, but the anime increases the brutality of the scene, purely for shock value. It's gross.
Hugtto Precure Final Thoughts

Time for my annual Precure review
Good write-up, thanks. I only made it half-way through the series because I wasn't wild about the pacing and it felt like it was spinning it's wheels with regards to the characters for awhile (so many Emiru/Lulu eps).

Finished goblin slayer
season 2 confirmed!
and decided to try hinomaru sumo. I'm only 2 episodes in but this show is already bringing the hype, I haven't really seen anyone talk about it so if you want a new shonen to watch give sumo a try.

[Promised Neverland] - 4

This episode continues to make the exact same mistakes as last week's: key scenes from the manga aren't adapted into the anime and Sister Krone's character continues to be treated poorly.

Key Scenes: This episode opens with the kids discussing the need to work out who the traitor is. But they anime never depicted a scene where the kids even came to the conclusion that where is a tratior! This scene was in the manga, but it was cut. [Note: I am wrong].

Krone: The anime really wants to make Krone a more lighthearted and comical character. Funny musical plays over scenes where she stomps and dances around because Mama has made her angry. Of course, that scene doesn't exist in the manga and Sister Krone is not a comic figure. The anime pushes in all these lighthearted/exaggerated/silly scenes with her, but that tone clashes completely with the rest of the series. It's a mess.

I could go on, but you get the general idea.

They did, at the end of episode 3. They noted that mom stopped going after them, like she didn't suspect them anymore, and then theorized that she has someone watching them, probably one of the kids, as it would be the easiest for her.

Bit early for that.

Jojo will be up there with the former
God I hope not. I've really not been enjoying this season of Jojo's - partially because the fight scenes got up their own ass, and partially because it's just so bitter - especially with how it treats women and gay people (The Sorbet and Gelato stuff in particular was really sadistic and cruel).

I'm surprised nobody mentioned The Promised Neverland as a candidate, though I guess the reception has been semi-mixed here.

I just checked chapters 10-12, which episode 4 covered, and it's a pretty close adaptation.

I don't think Attack on Titan will be first but I think it'll rank pretty well this year. The next cour should be straight fire.

Not sure if this has been posted already.saw this on reddit

4. The main character, Naofumi, displays conflicting moral tones. He seems considerate yet often crass at the same time, to downright immoral as well, as with his laissez faire attitude toward slavery. Could you explain your intention by creating a character with rapidly wavering moral tones?

I like to think of Naofumi as being like a mirror. He responds to kindness with kindness, and to evil with evil. Like a shard from a broken mirror, he has some pointy edges, but in the end he's a sympathetic character who cares for others.

As for purchasing a slave, he was forced to do it because of his situation--he needed help from others in a time and place where no one would help him. In the modern world, where people are moved and controlled by money, company employees have a lot in common with slaves.

It is preferable to have morals, but we've made a world where being strictly ethical can no longer survive. There are a lot of people out there that simply don't respond to ethics--in the face of people like that, what option is left besides emotionally insisting on your place and your views? My intention is to show that in the face of enemies like that, we often have no choice but to launch a counterattack.

So, how do people learn to recognize different animator styles, anyways? I see reaction videos to various popular shows (MHA, One Piece, DB Super, etc), and several reactors are able to instantly spot and name a particular animator for a sequence. I have no idea who these people are, or what their distinct styles contain, and it makes me feel kind of bad that I can't spot their work or even name them.

Don't feel bad, I can't either. It's pretty much for people who actually do this for a job.

Some of them have very distinct styles. Like I can recognize someone like Shida or Yutaka Nakamura instantly.

I think after you aware wtf "sakuga" is and engaging in that circle its pretty easy. You learned thing like Yutaka "yutapon" Nakamura gonna likely responsible for hype moment in Bones show. Distinct abstract style of Shinya Ohira and so on.

It's nothing to beat yourself over. I'm no expert but as I understand it, various animators have different 'tells' in how they draw and animate various things, be it characters, effects, movement that let you differentiate them. Yutaka Nakamura I think even got a nickname from the way he drew debris, Kobayashi from Naruto had a very distinct smears he utilises/ed at least in his early work, Yamashita had his triangle swords IIRC, etc. It's worth noting that the staff list of Key Animators will be there in the credits or even before the show airs so the guess list is already pretty limited most of the time I'd imagine.

Its something that you have to learn. Its very difficult to begin with, but just trying to eye it is very hard. For those shows, you can rely on a knowledge of animators that have worked on the shows and obviously staff credits but those are never translated so if you can't read Japanese you kinda just gotta know.

Toei is probably the easiest to do it with because of One Piece, PreCure and Dragon Ball and they have a large group of talent they commonly use.

The people that can look at how a hand, face, explosion effect or whatever and immediately know the animator are on another level though. Some have obvious tells like Yutapon cubes or Naoki Tate's eyebrows but those are usually extremely talented and very well known animators.

Worth noting that even though certain animators have their own tells, the vast majority of cuts never actually get confirmed to any one artist. It's constantly a game of guess and check even for sakuga experts. Probably the animators you're hearing named are more well known stars like Nakamura, but just last year people were incorrectly attributing cuts to Hiroyuki Imaishi on DarliFra so even those aren't always surefire bets.
