I'm level 8 so here are some impressions.
+Looks really nice with vibrant colors and much polished up character models.
+Animals are much more lively and active in their off time. They sit and read, take naps, fan dance, drink coffee etc. A good upgrade from them just kinda walking around like in the normal AC titles.
+Love the music and the classic AC sounds, though the charming "you can't move that here" bleep is now the bane of my existence since it's tied to the server error message
+Several cool additions I would like to see implemented in AC Switch. The whole concept of having a camping area came to New Leaf eventually, but this is obviously something bigger. I would like them to expand upon it even more on the console version. The nets and honey better be in there. I also think AC could benefit by having this kind of fast travel for certain areas. In New Leaf what's the point of walking halfway across my town to get to the RV site?
-Funneling everything into a linear upgrade path is the antithesis of Animal Crossing. Everyone gets the same stuff at the same time, it kills the sense that the town is personalized for you. You're never going to find some super rare item in a tree, or catch a coelacanth until you hit a specific level.
-Dialogue is severely trimmed down. I know they don't want to make the animals too chatty because people are just trying to farm materials, but a lot of the animals seems so bland and lack personality without their detailed diatribes.
-Catching fish and bugs is too easy. They turned a legitimate eSport into a mindless baby game.
-Loading is making my brain melt. Connecting to the server for the simplest tasks makes everything seem much harder than it should be. Maybe it will be cleared up in the future, but getting an error message after simply talking to a character is modern gaming in a nutshell.
It's charming and amusing enough. I mean it's free. But I feel like they watered down a lot of my favorite things about AC. I'm interested to see what they do with it in the future and how it could connect to AC Switch.
