So I'm watching the post media scrum and CM Punk and Tony Khan are being interviewed and a dude asks Tony how he feels about the fact that he's just changed the industry. And Tony in his humble self is like "no no, it was everyone who works at AEW and most importantly the fans and all of you guys" and he's denying it until the guy says that you're the one who signed CM Punk!

At which point Punk interjects with "Actually he's right, I don't think I would've come back if anyone else had asked me to"

and Tony. Like he kept it together but you could TELL that those words hit his very soul and he is on Cloud 9 right now
Amazing what not being a scum lord can do for signing talent

Thanks. Is there someonewhere I can read more about how the powerbomb cast will be setup? Like is it weekly, rss feed, etc?

Not sure with Premium content with Giant Bomb, I think you just have to download its episode through their website when they put it up. This is a return of a show they haven't done in a long time, its technically haven't started yet.

Didn't watch the show but basically skimmed the whole thread. So happy to see Danielson back wrestling again. As a mid 30 year old, happy to see a product that doesn't patronize it's fans. I'm not a huge Cole fan but perhaps he'll be more fun in the Elite. Thrilled to see the Lucha Bros get the straps!

There are still lots of ways for the product to improve. Some of the older folks will ideally be phased out with all this new talent. The women's division has a LONG way to go IMHO but I think getting Ruby there is a huge get. Competition will be good for wrestling going forward and hopefully will light a fire under WWE so both products continue to improve. I'm not holding my breath with WWE changing though.

Got to be said how great the crowd was for every single match. It was a special show to watch on the screen but all those people reallt helped deliver an incredible viewing experience. Must have been incredible to be there.

This is even more damning than the guys that left disgruntled.
Yup. It's one thing when Punk comes in, you know the history there with Vince. Bryan and Vince were really close, and the fact that WWE even offered for Bryan to work for other promotions speaks volumes about how much Vince wanted him to stay.....and he still chose to leave.

I *think* it used to be monthly? You can set up an RSS feed in a podcast app with your GB credentials and it pulls through

I don't think they've mentioned whether it's going to be a one off return or a (semi) regular thing again, but I wouldn't expect it to be anything more frequent than monthly
Alright thanks. Looking forward to it, hopefully it's at least bi weekly and more focused on AEW than WWE.

Yea not a good look at all.

I just finished watching, gonna get some of those thrilling immediate takes without hearing what the general consensus is first.

As an important primer, I tend to check out dynamite when it airs in the UK but I don't follow it every week, honestly my interest in wrestling has waned a fair bit over the last few years and I'm mainly into just reading about wrestling.
There's a part of me that wants to really be able to feel that AEDUB hype , there's another part of me that's just burned the heck out and should probably take a breather from following the whole business for a while (but then I might miss something cool, or something comically atrocious in the case of the 'E, truly FOMO)

Miro vs Kingston
Solid opener that never quite reached true big meaty men slapping meat territory but kept up a good pace for the time it was given, the finish of the match sticks out because conceptually I kinda like it, in execution it got all fumbled with some wack camera work most notably.

Mox vs Kojima
I'm gonna be real honest here, I'm not really into the random NJPW wrasslers in ppv matches thing, it just strikes me as kinda random and not really part of what weekly events build towards. But then I also popped a bit post match for Suzuki so....well anyway, the match I kinda glazed over I'll admit

Britt Baker vs Kris Statlander
I think this match was good at making Stanlander looks strong in defeat as she took a rather hefty combo of big moves and barely survived before succumbing to the immediate post kickout lockjaw (gotta like when someone just pounces right back on the offence, also I'm really appreciating the lockjaw tying into the gimmick)
On one hand it's neat seeing that Baker has kept improving because I still remember like well over a year and a half ago being all "what the shit was that slingblade" or some kind of thrilling take on her in ring skills, ultimately I'm still not super sold on her as most are but she carries herself well.

Lucha Bros vs Young Bucks
Cage matches are one of those match types where it's almost like putting a limiter on match quality to me, which is my way of saying I seldom feel like I see great cage matches.
Going in I also wasn't expecting this to buck that trend because I'm not all that big on the young bucks over choreographed style of tag team wrestling. Little did I know that this would actually be what kinda helped overcome the usual cage doldrums. Rey eats the right side of that cage (and by extension the apron) so much that it's a three course meal of steel, bless his bumping socks.
The Young Bucks offense maybe dragged on a bit too long, but it did in fact make the comeback all the more hype when it took place (they actually had me convinced it wasn't gonna take place). Many spots that have me caught between "this is so dumb" and "this is so fun" is contradictory equal measure, like at some point I just have to roll with the superkick no sell kip up nonsense. That said I'm oddly pertubed by how Fenix can also crush Penta with the cross body from the top but he's totes fine, no team damage in this mode or something.
I dunno, against the odds I ended up enjoying this and it was probably my match of the night thinking about it.
Also goddman if Rey isn't the smoothest performer when it comes to flipz, he makes it look so natural, that's top talent.

Casino Battle Royale
Speaking of match types that can be a hard sell, battle royales, often just functional enough and yep, this is one of them but still a bit better than expected.
I'm kinda torn on the whole suits entrants gimmick, if only because the parts where the new entrants come out are like a clusterfuck of camera work trying to highlight who the heck is actually entering the match while catching the immediate in ring offence the latest entrant makes, it's the riddle without an asnwer as long as they stick to this format I guess. Said format though means that whenever the match starts to slow too much it gets a much needed injection of entrants to heat it back up.
Ruby was of course wasted in WWE, in fact it was always even worse to me because she got forcibly dragged out of NXT before she even got to put in work there thus never making the impact she could've. So here's hoping she finally gets some shine, this win is a good start (even if I was totally rooting for Rosa)

Chris Jericho vs MJF
Oh man, I just don't care, I have not enjoyed a Jericho match since like 2010 or something, I was ready to give this five stars when it looked like MJF had retired him but then they took the wind out of my sails with the decision reversal.
I suppose I could note that its novel to see someone in a feasible retirement from in ring position to actually survive such a stipulation, unfortunately it had to be Jericho so I'mma just gonna grumble.

Darby Allin vs CM Punk
It didn't really hit me until they pointed out the whole seven years thing, that the last time I saw Punk in a match it was that legendary chokeslam by Kane that took a man right out the company via a portal in the announcers table.
This is an interesting match to analyse because I've gotta give Punk some wiggle room here, the slower pace and frequency of holds is expected, Darby's moments of offence give the much needed moments of burst in the pace to break up any encroaching monotony, and he also bumps like a nutter.
Perhaps it's not the grand comeback match I may have liked but I also wasn't expecting as such, in a sense I'm just kinda happy seeing Punk wrestling again, and being happy, ain't that nice?
Punk has a certain swagger that heightens aspects of his in ring work, call it that innate charisma I find a lot of modern wrestling to lack, it came across very well in his promos over the last few weeks as well, in that sense he does in fact "still got it".
So here's hoping he shakes off the ring rust as well down the line.

Side note: Darby has gone from me first seeing him and his skateboard shtick and me being all "what's this "how do you do fellow hot topic teens" loser?" to "I kinda appreciate how aesthetically different he is", he's overcome my X-Pac heat! (even if he seems to still have some skeletons in his closet, such is wrestling, ejust remember nearly everyone is trash and you'll be fine). Nice paint job as well for this event.

WEEEEEEEEELLL
Aw yes, it's the motherfudgin' Big Show, or Paul Wight but nah, he's always gonna be Show to me.
I've got like stockholm syndrome from years of Big Show's inexplicable high card placement in WWE over twenty years or so, so when I see him doing his goofy arse one punch, his lackadaisal chokeslam and such, I'm ALL IN
I got everything I wanted, the old going over in dominating fashion, all the classic show moves like a spear that's like a lumbering beast tripping over into your rib cage.
Now sign Glenn so I can relive the monday night Raw forever war

Omega vs Cage
I always caped for Christian over Edge so I was okay with this seemingly rather odd match up to headline such a notable event (odd in that not just Christian being in a position to be considered one of "the olds" but also that even under different circumstances they did in fact just have this match on tv the other week).
Unfortunately by the time I reached this point, my ability to consume graps was depleted and I just couldn't get invested, no idea if the match was considered good or not, it seemed decent but nothing truly special. Felt like a bit of a foregone conclusion and I'm not all that into heel Omega so yeah.

Post match is what we're here for and imagine my deflation when Adam "basically killed my enjoyment of NXT main events" Cole trotted out in all his vanilla glory, then imagine my elation when god king Bryan saves the day by merely existing, you had me going there for a moment AEW.

All in all, that's a decent PPV that of course throws in two big name talents into the company (Bryan and....Soho, okay fine, three with Cole, I guess)
Danielson was still beasting back on smackdown earlier this year, so there's a lot of tantalisingly juicy match ups in his future. I'm still not feeling the same hunger for wrestling even with AEW making a lot of the right moves which kinda smells, but that's very much a me thing.
Roster is really coming together, if nothing else I'm gonna get a dope video game out of this.

So there are probably a bunch of new viewers who aren't aware of Minoru Suzuki. This vid I thought was a fun primer of hiw he built a name for himself

A Filthy Casual's Guide to Minoru Suzuki and the Catch Wrestling Connection

I don't own any of this footage or music, and this video isn't monetized. Be cool
And here is a good primer on Suzuki's character work (link is timestamped, but it starts at 16:00):

This is wild. Do the Khan family really have this much damn money? I know they are billionaires, but damn, TK must have an unlimited treasure trove to keep signing guy after guy.

AEW is flush with cash because the business is doing really well. TNT renegotiated their contract this year to move Dynamite etc to TBS, and that involved giving AEW a bunch of money, so they are leveraging that, plus these hires pay for themselves through merch and added PPV buys; they sold so many CM Punk shirts that his salary is already paid for.

Khan is on record as AEW being in the black other than the money spent on the upcoming video game.

LMAO, Simon was broken by the PPV, gave the tag match, Punk and the post main event angles golden ups (he usually only gives 1 at most), added and extra 440ish golden ups at the end and then gave the entire PPV a golden up 😂

They have a ton of money but this is also a matter of guys like Punk, Bryan and possibly even Cole turning down big money/contracts from WWE to go somewhere they feel is going to get their creative juices going again. This isn't like the 90s where Vince was losing all of his big stars because he couldn't afford to compete with Ted Turner's checkbook. He's losing guys because his product is garbage.

Plus the signees themselves have no restrictions to take in additional sources of income whether it be working other promotions or pursuing other interests IE Twitch

I'd be surprised if they even did it that much? Frankly I don't know that I would even need it that much. Give it to me once or twice a month (maybe more in AEW PPV months cause let's be real, AEW is the only reason they've revived the show). Obviously, Jeff, Jan and Jason will be on it. Do you think they get Alex for at least this return episode?

Funding and developing their own video game could be Tony Khan's biggest blunder in AEW tbh lol. I hope they know what they're doing there.
They have a Dev that knows how to make wrestling games (who were forced under yearly release deadlines so couldn't do it justice), they have Omega who is a massive gamer overseeing the develop and they have the main guy behind the most well regarded wrestling game of all time helping with direction to capture it's feel.

I'm sure the game itself will be good and if they were to sell 1 million copies (which is easier achievable I think considering WWE games still sell a few million each year), that's $60m in revenue on its own.

They can also charge $100 for a physical limited edition version with the WCW/NWO Revenge boxart recreated.

No worries. There was another poster in here with similar sentiments. I now it often just comes down to "different strokes," and is generally a game of expectations mixed with a person's past experiences. I just wonder what WOULD get you to feel the way 95% of the people in this community and online feel about this show because holy cow, I thought it was absolutely perfect.

The real news with Suzkki showing up is that AEW is one step closer to getting my boy Taichi.
Taichi would be well over in AEW.

Man, this week has just been banger after banger. Best go home episode of Dynamite yet, best episode of Rampage yet (Punk return was great but I'm talking about the wrestling part) and a brilliant PPV, probably their best yet. Really enjoyed everything. Cage match was excellent as everyone noted and probably the best match of the night but Eddie/Miro was my favourite. Sad Eddie couldn't get the win. Will make him winning it even better (God damn Tony you better put a belt on him)

Plus the potential for DLC is pretty big but more importantly, the investment in this game will help set up for new entries in a year or two that will pay off even more with hopefully bigger sales.

i am willing to pay a lot for a season pass if they keep the game up to date and stay on a two year dev cycle for new entries.
