Websites need to make money somehow.Anybody else experiencing this? It's starting to get annoying. Now even Reddit won't serve up content, I get a splash screen that tells me to disable my adblocker. I'm using UBlock Origin. Is there some newer adblocker that gets pass these websites' checks?
Because they make money on you regardless of if ads are shown. Think tracking networks, e-commerce, or sponsored content.I always find this strange. If websites can tell I'm using it, why don't all sites just stop me? Even YT doesn't do anything about it. I have like five sites white-listed, and they're just forums and WebUrbanist.
Is it worth the security/privacy risks? If you want less aggressive ads, don't use adblocker. These sites need to get money somehow.
Something I've done in the past is that the few websites I trust, I whitelist them not for ads, but for cookies. Most sites I block all cookies, first and third party, so if I get an add, it's a generic one and I'm not being followed as well between sites and pages; I never get any targeted ads this way.

Thats weird because before blockers became commonplace I remember ads that would hijack your browser and would be impossible to click away from or close without using task managerIf you want less aggressive ads, don't use adblocker. These sites need to get money somehow.

lolOkay. I uninstalled uBlock Origin and installed Nano Adblocker. I'm not getting splash screens now on sites I was using uBlock Origin.
I think your two choices are pretty much either whitelist the site or stop going to it.
You're confusing cause and effect. If you want less aggressive ads, don't use adblocker. These sites need to get money somehow.
that's horrible advice.
the only reason adblockers exist is because advertisers weren't responsible.
If it's a site I frequent regularly, I whitelist them or disable for the site.
Website hosting isn't free people.
I couldn't figure out how to get nano defender to work with ublock so I just installed nano adblocker to get nano defender to work lollol
thats one way to do it. fyi nano is a fork of ubo, and both rely on the same lists. mostly. i doubt nano had a specific filter built in that solved the issue.
did you update the filter lists in ubo? have you checked which lists are enabled in nano and ubo?
You could have kept Ublock installed. Just read my post above about manual whitelisting. I had the exact same problem with reddit as you did and that fixed it.I couldn't figure out how to get nano defender to work with ublock so I just installed nano adblocker to get nano defender to work lol
On Chrome? Defender works with UBO out of the box. No configuration needed.I couldn't figure out how to get nano defender to work with ublock so I just installed nano adblocker to get nano defender to work lol
lol. Yeah, that's a reasonable alternative to using an adblocker.
ublock origin and ghosterySo what's the best combination for blocking ads/scripts these days?
I'm still rocking Ad Block Plus like an old man.
uBlock Origin will be fine for most things. If you want more control, adding uMatrix alongside uBO is a tough combo to beat.So what's the best combination for blocking ads/scripts these days?

Advertising is a dead medium anyway. What's the last thing you bought, saw, or did because of an advertisement?
