What if it means he will stay as CEO during the trainsition period and then as a "normal" CEO after that? It doesn't say anywhere that he's leaving.

this is the main reason why i was so excited for this deal. major culture and structural change from the top down there should make the studios under them more open to exploring new things.

The amount of time he's agreeing to stay on is not only very short, it's shorter than his previous contract. He's out.

It's a bad look for everyone for MS to just be like "we're shitcanning him." But, staying on for all of two months to ensure a smooth transition makes it pretty clear that's what's happening. They're just letting him save a bit of face; he likely demanded some such transition.

Also remember, though it says 2023 it doesn't 100% imply January. He could mean fiscal year which means March.

I'm against the acquisition unions and this are the two good aspects.

And stay away from PlayStation please

This man is trash and belongs in jail for doing nothing and at best enabling predatory behavior. I sincerely wish the best for corporate predators like him on days like this when it feels like they will never get repercussions for their actions

That's how we ended up with fucking Jim Ryan. Go outside the company if you need to, Sony.
Yeah nah.

Jim Ryan is the reason why Playstation is absolutely enormous in Europe. Just because his CEO tenure was not great doesn't mean he was a random dude that somehow got into the CEO position. He had been 30 years at Playstation.

Andrew House, Shawn Layden, Kaz Hirai, all of them in-house people.

I initially read that he was staying on for good so this is a better outcome than that, but it's still not great. The guy who sucks gets untold riches, hooray?

This is the best part of the acquisition.

Him leaving at all is better than him not leaving.

He should have been fired and he should be in prison. I'm sure Microsoft would've kept him in (as any other corporation) if it wasn't because Blizzard drove someone to suicide.

I see plenty to celebrate. Dude is done.

Yes, because I am sure that Blizzard will do their due diligence in their transition with the guy that hid all the misogyny and sexual harassment in the first place.

When was the last time someone was a PlayStation CEO that had not already been working there.
Never, in reality.

(well, SIE consolidated everything, but when SCE existed there were many CEOs in different regions, so there might be some that weren't from Sony before, I'm not sure)

It really sucks he's going to get a 9 figure golden parachute but at least he'll finally fuck off, hopefully out of the gaming industry forever.
