They need to go back to the roots. MK9 was perfect, sounds like we are headed back into the weird MKs with lame characters.

MK9 was nostalgia play the (relatively boring) roster that did that as a return to form production. I'd rather that we keep moving forward with new characters and concepts to keep things fresh and spending time on tweaking returning characters for new games/situations than just trying to hit a higher roster count with ports of older fighters.

This is more than likely fake because based on what I've seen netherrealm's next game does in fact still use unreal engine 3.

Let me try to double check that though.

Edit. Found what I was talking about. This is from late last year

If they made Sonya Blade, Cage, Mileena, etc dlc it would be guaranteed money. Whereas MKX offered up most legacy characters to the base game.

Well their engine is so modified its basically not even unreal engine 3 anymore. And even still injustice 2 still looks better than most unreal engine 4 games available

Ok so the unreal engine 4 part could be true based on this at least. I hope it is. It would make a switch port A LOT easier.

That would be massively scummy.
Not really. Mileena is dead, Sonya is a waste of slot for a long time and we have now Cassie as the next Cage.

It makes sense if they wouldnt be in the base roster. There is always gonna be characters people want and dont get.

NRS showed they listen to fans for some input but at the end of the day they are doing the roster with what they want to see.

I'm sorry, but the story is unimportant here.

"Buy our new Mortal Kombat 11 video game for $60 and then pay extra money for the characters you actually care about," is really scummy. X was already missing classic characters and replaced them with a number of unimpressive ones.

this post, in an alternate reality:

I don't think that's the same thing. Removing a large amount of classic characters and then putting them in as paid DLC is a very specific hook to get fans in and spend more money.

A good fighting game roster includes a healthy mix of new and old characters. The idea that Kano, Mileena, Sonya, Goro and Cage would all be DLC just doesn't feel right to me. Especially when someone like Sonya was in the last game.

Mortal Kombat (2011) and MKX were so good and can't wait for this.
I know people don't like guest characters, but I want to see Kratos with his axe in this game!

I'm looking through the MKX DLC right now, and it doesn't look like they went for the obvious cash grabs as far as classic characters go. They had plenty of potential to port over MK9 characters, but they didn't.

I think the number of characters in the roster is decided pretty early on in development. And in order to make room for new characters and characters that sat out MKX...some characters from MKX are likely to get the boot. Fans of Mileena, Sonya, Cage etc. should be pretty used to their characters getting swapped out by now. This has been standard fare for Mortal Kombat for everyone not named Sub-Zero or Raiden, long before DLC was a thing.

The leak was simply that these characters would be unplayble. To be resold as DLC is speculation at this point and if MKX is any indication, this won't be the case (well Triborg is kinda iffy). But historically, the alternative here is you don't get to play as these characters at all until the next game.

They already had Kratos in 9.
Kratos-MK9.jpg

He meant the new Norse Kratos with the beard and axe who feels completely different in every aspect almost a new character. The old Kratos was a guest in many games but the new one never. That is why he deserves to be introduced again and MK11 would be a perfect occasion again.

I'm not saying the story isn't important in the actual story mode. I'm just referring to the idea of "buy all the classic characters we took out of the game as DLC."

I think that would really be taking advantage of the fan base.

To be fair, you don't even get those characters back through DLC. They keep opting for more and more guest characters because they create headlines. I would have been happy to buy the characters I wanted to play back as DLC because at least I had the option at all. I don't give a rats ass about Jason or Leatherface and i would have just been fine with one and only one guest character.

With Atreus riding on his back FerraTorr style?

Man that animation rumor is what I was expecting years ago so I guess we'll see if it's true. I wanted them to take an extra year so shit even longer? Ok let's get it.

They didn't add Rain as DLC in MKX even though he was hugely requested only because he was DLC in MK9.

Adventure mode sounds neat. I actually liked the Konquest mode in Deception but I didn't get into Armageddon's story mode cause I just didn't like that game in general. Hopefully the mode is more character action style ala Shaolin Monks.

Don't know really know if I trust this rumor. Boon has seemed to imply they were doing at least something a little different this time around but this leak seems like an easy one to make up.

I'm excited to see something new though. The story mode has been good for the last few NRS games but the formula has stayed the same. I think it's time to innovate in that department once again.

Anything Shaolin Monks is more than welcome! This looks to follow the end of the PS2 era MK games where they were chock full of content.

Can someone answer why this has a thread?

Not threadwhining I was just wondering why a 4chan leak with no proof gets one. Did an insider here back it up?

Hopefully the new one has more "soulnados".

If this new one doesn't have at least three or four weaved into the story, NRS is just leaving money on the table.

Next time use the report feature instead of bumping the thread and giving it more attention.
Well like I said I had no problem with it I'm not really picky about this stuff, I was just wondering since threads with unproven leaks typically get locked. not to mention the previous post was one minute before so I didn't really bump it.
