While I understand this is the same dev, this game looks like cutting room floor Quantum Break assets for a sequel that never happened. They expanded on the powers, then placed the main character in "one building with many impossible floors". It's almost like vr missions for quantum break. I'm not trying to imply lazy devs, just that they had assets they clearly want to use left over.

Yup, because I just got around to checking out the game.

When I first saw it, I was convinced Sony somehow got Quantum Break 2 until they showed the name for it.

In all honesty, the fact that it reminded me of Quantum Break is what sold me on this; I loved that game, but there needed to be more game to it and this game seems like it's definitely addressing that issue.

Saw the game being played live by the devs behind closed doors. This is basically Alan Wake with female protagonist in a governmental setting.

They even use the Beth actress. Haha.

I'm glad. Loved that actress in QB.

Brandon Jones from Easy Allies had a good point. I think he compared it to Friday Nights at Freddy's dev who wanted to make a kids game, and people said that bear is scary, and he responded by making it much much scarier. QB had some good ideas but they may have been shackled by the TV show videogame thing they were doing, and people said if you went crazier with the ideas and powers this could be cool, and Control is Remedy's answer to that.

Yeah, I knew it was Remedy as soon as the elevator scene came up. This is actually on of the biggest things out of E3 for me, because I liked QB a lot and wanted to really see what a QB2 with the flaws ironed out could be.

It does look way too much like Quantum Break. I wouldn't mind if it had a bit more of its own visual identity.

It's still a new Remedy game, though, we in there.

It's funny if they used MS funding to create quantum and then made almost the same game multi platform

Yea I knew it was a Redemedy game just a few seconds in to the E3 trailer. Art direction, lighting, colour palette, weird disruptive effects etc gave it away. Still, it looks great. Here's hoping they can improve upon Quantum Break, which I thought was a solid effort, but not quite there yet.

Control is without a doubt the coolest thing I've seen during E3. QB had immense potential and its gameplay was already really fun, but there just needed to be more of it. There were so few huge encounters but when there were and you could really use all of your powers later in the game it really clicked and felt legitimately amazing. A full game built around those encounters with telekinesis and hovering? Fuuuuck yeah.

at least Control doesn't have a boring, generic protagonist that we've already seen in video games a million times before

in fact, it's surprising that it took Remedy this many games and sooo many years before they even ventured beyond having another white guy as the main character.

I got so excited when that actress showed up in the trailer. Beth's storyline was far and away the most compelling part of QB (tragically relegated largely to text collectibles) and I would have been so very down for a game focusing on the character.

Still excited for a new thing, though.

Are you just lumping all their previous characters together because they were white guys?

Max Payne, Alan Wake, and Jack Joyce were all drastically different from each other, and no way in hell would I ever call the characters of Max Payne or Alan Wake boring or generic.

The first few seconds of the trailer with the cold concrete interior and office environment actually had me thinking it was a new Mobius/Kidman DLC for Evil Within 2.

The MetroidVania design sounds like a promising change but the combat is still a big question.

Hope they dont copy QB too much...like who thought it was a good idea to pull people out of the game and make em watch a tv show?

This game has nothing to do with Quantum Break whatsoever. I can confirm that after I had a small interview with the devs. It's a completely new world and new setting and new IP.

I knew it was a Remedy game because of the colour palette (kind of green and orange hue) and lighting which was very similar to QB. Then I started seeing the morphing environments with the distortion effects which looked very Quantum Break like as well. Then you have the actress who played Beth Wilder in Quantum Break. And then you see the powers that are again very QB like in terms of visuals.

I fully believe that this is a Quantum Break sequel but without the IP license.

Yeah, I noticed the same immediatley and it put me off a bit. While still give the game a fair try when it comes around, but generally don't like it too much when SP games by the same developer are too similar to each other despite being different franchises.

I enjoyed QB but they made two big missteps I feel. First on "normal" the game let you get away with trying to use cover a lot. Which if you played it as a cover shooter it was bad. Putting it on hard at least kept you mobile and using powers, which is where it was really fun. However then you'd reach the last boss and it was annoyingly much harder than anything else in the game. So not sure if my solution would have solved that.

Second issue of course was the "tv show." I didn't mind this show and I liked the little bits where you influenced it. But it was pretty much pointless and very disconnected from the game itself. It was cool as an experiment though.

As soon as I saw Beth I knew this would be a spiritual successor to QB. It's going to be kind of amusing that while Microsoft worked with them for all those years they could only make two games. Two pretty good games. Now in 2 years, if the early praise is right they could end up making a great game. I'll be wondering if having access to a platform holder's money made them reach for more ambitious ideas and fell short or if MS directly mismanaged dealings with them.

Spiritual successor to QB? Do people even bother to read this thread when it has been stated multiple times already this game has nothing to do with QB and its a new IP?

It looked identical. IMO. But I just saw the e3 traile. Did you play QB? I can't see how anyone can share that opinion

What I am sharing is not an opinion. It's a fact. If you look back at the thread I've stated that I saw the game being played in front of me behind closed doors and did an interview with the devs.

And yes I played QB. The games just share same engines which is why it looks similar.

Probably just think about it like demons > dark souls. It'll be the same with this where qb > control as the mold it starts from. But yeah from the reveal, even before we knew it was remedy I was already making comments about how it just looked like qb
