Is this pretty decent for portable only? I'm considering getting it but I'd only play handheld. If I want to play on the TV, I'll play my PS4 copy.

I saw some reports of it being blurry in handheld...
Blurry, muddy, choppy, and down right ugly at times. But it's still unmistakenly Doom. Whether the downgrade and $60 price is worth it, well, only you can be the judge. I kinda wish I waited for a price drop, as the game is visually worse than I was hoping for.

It's blurry in both modes. But the game is so good in other respects, it's worth looking past it I think.

Thanks for the info! Probably gonna wait for a sale since I've already beaten the game and not in a rush to replay it.

By the way, I purposely chose not to download the patch because I heard about the FOV slider that for some reason is apparently taken out of the patched game. Is it possible to tell what setting is it locked at? In the non-patched version, the standard is 90 and I bump it all the way up to 110. It looks much better. It would suck to have to revert to 90 after downloading the patch.

Got the audio glitch too. Apart from that, I'd never played the PC or console version, so I'm having a really good time with Doom on Switch. I'm playing on Easy since I absolutely suck at console FPS, and crushing demons on the go is fun!

How are you guys getting your screenshots off the Switch? Do you post to a dummy facebook/twitter?

Just take the SD card out and plug it into your computer. They're stored on the SD card in the images folder, sorted by date. Same for videos. No need at all to upload them anywhere....unless you don't have an SD card in your switch.

ah that's what I figured. I thought there was an easier way, just a bit of a hassle to do as the sd card has my games.

Not to turn this into a screenshot thread, but I was initially really curious about how this game looks in Docked Mode, so I figured I'd share for others who might be in the same spot.

As it turns out, I'm one of those weirdos who actually finds the game more pleasant looking when its docked (maybe it's due to my TV's really good upscaler). I've been playing with chromatic aberration off and motion blur set to "low." I agree that Panic Button! probably could've used more time with the port (and I really hope for post-launch patch support), but I'm pretty damned pleased with how this game looks on Switch:

I think it looks fucking amazing but then I haven't played any other versions so I have nothing to compare it to. Plus I play mainly in Docked mode.

I've been switching between this and Mario Odyssey during the weekend, portable mode. What a time to be alive!

As for the game my only gripes are about font sizes, as some of them are very very small in portable mode, and lack of motion controls for aiming. Splatoon has really spoiled me, it feels as if something was missing when aiming. Wish they could patch aiming motion controls in, would make a world of difference.

I encountered a bug where a sound distortion sometimes occur. Another bug where the sound got almost lost. Hopefully this will get addressed with a patch.

If you like the soundtrack and and are interested in how it was made, this is a great lecture by the composer

I think those saying i'll wait for a sale/price drop are going to be disappointed if they actually have any interest in this game. This isn't going to be printed anywhere near other versions, so don't expect it to ever hit the price of a PS4/XB1 sale

Played it over the weekend and thought it was great, going from Mario to this for something different for an hour has been wonderful

On PS4 I always liked replaying the first Hell level the most

The first Hell level is just as good here!

We haven't really heard anything from Panic Button about this game. No interviews or comments as far as I know. Do they respond to their Twitter? Have they said anything about updates?

So, I was a little put off at how blurry it is in handheld mode (Arcade) and the text is fricking tiny. Much better docked for me.

In the MP, is there a way to set the weapons to centred ala single player (old school Doom style)? I much prefer it.

Still tweaking sensitivities but am getting better with aiming with sticks. Having to correct with character movement a lot but at least I'm getting in the right area to be able to do that.

Its still feels awful in comparison to a mouse and I'm not sure if Aim Assist is even doing anything... but progress is progress. =P

I guess this is a preference thing. I was put off by the sensitivity and spent most of my time last night trying to find the right amount. I'll play some more.

So what was the consensus: turn off CA and what else?

I have the game on PC as well, but I agree that it looks great docked. It's a really big downgrade in portable mode. Like, almost insultingly so. The game is still fun in portable mode, but this and Mario feel like games meant to be played docked for the visual fidelity alone.

Also, the praise for multiplayer is confusing. I've played a few matches and it just feels sloppy. It's fine for a quick play scenario I guess, but it's not something I will invest much time in. I almost agreed with it feeling like Quake or Unreal, but then I realized I'd much rather play those than this for a multiplayer experience.

Yeah, there is definitely some progress to be made. I noted that the aim assist is way stronger in multiplayer so it helps. Really wish I could move the Glory Kill to something else without having to map the Jump button to L...

I've settled on Knuckles setting. The only thing to get used to on that is the jump button position.
At least with this control scheme I'll make better use of the grenades. =P

I'll wait for it to go on a sale. Currently a bit on a tight budget.
However I am looking to the game on the Switch to see how it runs.

But then again you lose the only selling point of the Switch version over the others.

Me too! I have tweaked the controls and find I can aim effectivley by "old school" doom strafe gameplay. It still is hard to aim at enemies that are above me, but it is really getting much better. I also knocked it down to easy, so I can enjoy my first run through and learn to aim at the same time.

I wonder if an FPS joycon could be produced one day. The pro controller is great, but I am one of the "mobile only" owners, and dont want to use an external controler. I am super pleased Nintendo allows pro controller in mobile mode, but I don't want to do that on train/plane :)

Despite downgrade, the game looks amazing to me! Wowowowowow :)

Unless you assume someone only has a Switch. But otherwise, you're not wrong. I'm a major proponent of most things Switch, and while this game plays and feels great docked, it is pretty heavily lacking in the portable department. I don't know if they can patch in some nicer textures or what, but it could really use one more coat of polish.

I just hope that the idea of DOOM on Switch doesn't cloud critical judgement of certain aspects.

After playing around with the sensitivities a lot, I ended up setting things back to default and they somehow felt MUCH better.

Some thing that helped me though is turning on the Classic DOOM gun position and also the Simple crosshair.
This gives you two easier ways to line up with enemies if you end up having to strafe to correct your aim. (The simple crosshair is mainly to be more visible on the smaller screen)

Disclaimer: I'm playing handheld right now so it may only be useful for those playing that way.

I find it looks good in potable mode. What i mean by that is that it provides the full experience, that a console DOOM would provide. The atmosphere in this game is amazing. The smoke, the particle effects and geometry seem very much like in the other versions. Just the resolution is much lower. And that it has some noticeable framerate drops. But for a handheld game it looks amazing. Now would i compare the game in docked mode, then i wouldn't look at it as favorable. Because it looses what makes it unique, being a portable console experience of DOOM. It feels like the real deal. That's why i can overlook some of it shortcomings.

I REALLY want to play this, but the $60 price tag is keeping me at bay. I already bought the game twice so far (PS4 and PC) and a third time with a serious downgrade probably isn't worth the full price. I'd rather bite at $20 or $30 at the most.

Man I am pleasantly surprised by this. I wasn't planning on getting it but I really wanted to try out a FPS on Switch so I said what the hell. I had my reservations because everyone talking about how bad it looks in portable but it looks much better than I thought it would (granted my expectations were lowered a lot but still). It does look blurry at first but once you're into the gameplay you stop noticing it and it looks pretty smooth and clean otherwise. It's not a bad look IMO, just different, I think I prefer it over shimmering and aliasing everywhere. In motion the game looks just like how I remember the PC version looking only a little out of focus.

I'm not a performance or graphics snob but I first played Doom at 1080p ~120fps on my 144 Hz monitor so i'm a little surprised by how okay I am with this version. I have to do a lot of my aiming with the left stick but I can feel myself improving. I wish there was a little aim assist though.

Also the multiplayer is so much fun. It's funny I never gave the multiplayer a second thought on PC but on Switch it's my favorite part of the game. I image the switch version is going to have the most active multiplayer since there was basically no reason to care about it on the other consoles.
