What the hell is this? Im playing modern warfare remastered for first time in months. Its outputting at max 1440p and just sitting on the menu, sounds like im sitting on a virgin atlantic flight to new york city.

Ready to strap myself in here for take off!!

It's an intended feature of the console. It's meant to drown out any outside noise so you can focus on the game.

Yeah, my Pro is extremely loud nowadays as well. Wasn't like this originally. God of War, Detroit, and now Yakuza 0 all sound like there's someone vacuuming in the background.

That's not normal. Check your fans.

Edit: It IS normal on some games for some models but not in stuff like Modern Warfare.

Is it in an open space and what's the temperature in your room? Summer doesn't help with these things.

One of the funniest posts and first reply I've seen in years haha.

And yes ... it is normal. During Rocket League, the Console really lives up the game's name.

I even hear the fans when I play with headphones.

I've been playing God of War, Assassins Creed:Origins and Horizon recently on the Pro and to be honest, my console is pretty quiet during normal gameplay.

The menu screens though...that's a different story. Sony needs to force developers to stop running menus with uncapped frame rates.

Yeah, I've always worried about this with the PS4 Pro, and high-end video cards like the Vega and 1080. I dream of the day of liquid cooled cards...I hate hearing the fans!

Mine is loud as hell too. I'm just going to roll with it until it eventually flies away and I'll pick up a slim instead. Maybe they'll announce an new model at e3.

Aren't PS4 pros loud normally though ?

I still have an OG PS4 which is pretty loud these days and it's one of the main reasons I am still hesitant to upgrade to a Pro.

I have afew friends who have Pros and they also say they get pretty loud when running games like NBA2k, GoW and Horizon.

I remember playing uncharted 4 on my OG and holy crap did that game make the fans go crazy.

Same. It drives me insane. I avoid all pro-enhanced games now, because they are the only ones that do this to my system. It's such garbage, especially for someone like me who lives in Phoenix where it is >100 degrees F during the day.

It's just a loud console.

And everyone saying it's quiet are mistaken or lying. I'm pretty damn sure.

It's normal, mine sound like a jet engine when I play God of War and Nier Automata... I've read in some places that changing the thermal paste on the CPU helps but you need to open it for that. Bad design.

It is totally "normal" for a PS4 Pro to be loud. Most of them are. A few people got lucky with quiet ones apparently. But even people who have opened up their consoles and done all the voodoo of re-applying thermal paste still have loud consoles in some cases.

Pretty much this. I honestly don't believe anyone who says theirs is "whisper quiet."

The new model pro is supposed to have a quieter fan right?

My OG Pro is pretty loud. But I play with headphones so I don't notice.

Sorry I couldnt read your post, the fan on my PS4 is too loud.

really tho for as much shit as the og Xbox One got for its design that shit was dead quiet (and both S and X are the same way) you would think that with both a slim and a pro Sony would have found a way to not wake up an entire block when a dude just wants to play Madden but here we are.

I play all pro games with headphones on so that I don't hear the fans, it really is ridiculously loud when stressed.

My PS4 ALWAYS sounds like it's going to take off. Its literally deafening, I have to turn the TV way up to drown it out.

Tried opening it up and cleaning it out, reapplied new thermal paste. To no avail

you know whats weird?

mine also has that extremely annoying whistle sound, in god of war it was INSANE

but in detroit become human it isnt that bad, and i play on a 4k tv and that game looks GORGEOUS, how does it go louder in other games than that baffles me tbh.

i pray that ps5 has a bigger fan that makes less noise or something, why the ps4 has such a small fan is a shame :(

Did everyone's unit that's loud start off silent but get shitty later on? I'm sitting on a new unit that's been whisper quiet in GoW/Detroit. Got me sweatin.

More like bigger heatsink, fan is pretty big. And better overall airflow. Fan it's only a part of cooling systems.

It seems random what games it does it on. The Yakuza games it's a Saturn V lifting off, but it was relatively quiet throughout God of War.

yeah but isnt the xbox one fan much bigger? I always thought a bigger fan means less rpm which translates to less noise? Cause my fan whistles like no tomorrow

This. It's really weird to change Kratos' armor and hear the thing taking off.

Well, mine is typically whisper quiet. I don't hear it except rarely. Playing through long God of War sessions did engage the fans frequently, but typically I don't hear my Pro at all.

I bought it recently, within the past three months, and I also keep it on a totally open shelf with nothing else around it (in a fairly big room). Not sure how much that has to do with it or not.

The Pro is trash tier hardware. Not in terms specs I'm fine with those, but someone messed up the system cooling in a massive way. Personally I think it is hardware recall worthy, but that's never going to happen because the things work even though they make far more noise than any piece of electronics has the right to. Overall the Pro just feels cheaply built. So disappointed in Sony over this terrible hardware design.

I'll let others beta test the next system. Definitely not jumping in day one.

Right, so when people talk about PS4 Pro's being loud we're talking about actually playing demanding 4K games like God of War. Not indies or stuff that hasn't been upgraded with Pro support. Obviously less demanding stuff isn't going to kick the Pro into the gear.

People just have different definitions of "whisper quiet." For PC building, at least, it's always meant "you literally can't hear this unless you put your ear right next to it." If you can hear the fan (even if it just sounds like moving air), that's not whisper quiet. That's an audibly loud fan.
