Guys see, not even GameFreak are sure if Let's Go is a core RPG game or not, they keep changing it and it's created a confusion in the community. Messed up situation.

Where did you see that? We were trying to figure out if aiming is even in this, it looks more like the ball is thrown automatically towards the center of the circle.
Hmm? I thought that was confirmed last night.

If you can just push a button with no aiming, it's just going to be silly to catch Pokemon. Nothing to it. All the pros of using a Quick Ball, with the con of actually requiring some amount of paying attention.

Wait there's no ranked? Well Mewtwo is going to destroy everything then.

Any word on a rival? It would suck to not have Green in the game.

If that was confirmed I must have missed it.

I'm sure there will be some strategy involved like using the right type of ball, feeding them certain types of berries, etc. And the Pokemon will probably occasionally attack and dodge like in GO. But so far I don't think we've seen anything suggesting you'll have to aim your throws. Maybe you can aim where the circle will be?

Let's Go Pikachu already sold out on Amazon. It's also #1 in video games (tho I'm guessing not for long since you literally can't pre-order it anymore.)

Huh. From what I gathered it seemed like they are framing this as a "full rpg" but not as a "traditional core rpg" that defines the main series.

Has there been anything about online since Joe said there is online? It was going back and forth yesterday so I just want to know.

Its mainline in the sense that it is by Gamefreak, features a full adventure in Kanto, has the turn based battles, and likely centers around the gyms and becoming the champion. It could be mainline while being a different branch, and I think that is whst Gamefreak needs to realize. They are probably sounding confused cause they haven't settled yet if this is the first of many in a Lets Go Sub-Series or a one off cash grab.

Amazing upgrade, a true generation leap that looks like it's pushing the Switch hardware to the limit.

In terms of graphics we really could not ask for more. Absolutely incredible effort by Game Freak, bravo!

Who cares tbh? You guys are making this a big deal. Gen 8 Pokemon games are coming next year for those who want a fully core game.
Because we dont know how many of the new "features" are coming into gen 8 or gen 9, and they calling it a main game doesnt inspire confidence on keeping those choices in this game.

Wait, Serebii is saying this IS a remake of the story and junk, just altered? I was hoping they were at least going to do the one way to make this interesting, IE set in a significantly altered Kanto because so much time had passed, and I figured the new protagonists pointed towards that. Man, this game keeps getting more and more disappointing... I mean, we literally had the rerelease of RBY not too long ago, so did we really need something adhering so strictly to those games?

I wonder how the reception of this game would be critically and by fans(not sales but their opinions). We've all played Pokemon Go and encountering Pokemon in the wild and just throwing pokeball at it gameplay wore off fast. Trainer battles being the only way I just don't know how people will stomach it. It's crazy how just removing battles with wild Pokemon throws away so much content from this series, not to mention that price increase.

Also what's the point of pikachu and evee editions since u can get both from go mobile? Like did they do 2 editions to make money off people who buy both editions?

I almost have a complete collection of all Pokemons of Pokemon Go that are currently available. I don't really get it why I should buy this new game when it only offers me a new battle system and to catch the monsters again or to transfer them.

It's because I thought X/Y and Sun/Moon were so bad and lackluster that I am actually okay with the direction of these Let's Go games. At least we know they're messing around with the formula for fun. But sure enough Gen 8 hype will start and the competitive breeder/team builder in me will go all in and it'll just be disappointment again. At least here with Let's Go I know what I'm getting and my expectations are lowered. With Gen 8, I will hope for GS to learn from their previous mistakes and they'll just end up making new ones.

Same for me. Moon was the first Pokemon I played since Red and found it to be so bad I had to stop playing it. Pacing, dialogue, combat and exploration were horrible. Worst of all is that even my niblings (nephew 7, niece 8) didn't find it fun and stopped playing too. They thought it was boring. I really can't understand how people enjoy it, they are terribly designed. What is the target audience for Pokemon?

I'm thrilled to see they are trying new things and I hope they take risks with the next mainline title.

edit: rephrased a couple of things

I think Masuda said it was a "reimagination" of Pokémon Yellow, meaning not a sequel nor a remake.

The reaction truly is laughable when you put into context that this is not the core-RPG and that that is coming, confirmed, next year.

This actually looks really nice and I'm looking forward to picking it up - it has all the primary mechanics except for the random battles, essentially, which I understand. It also looks quite nice for something clearly done in a short space of time, and I'm hopeful Game Freak will go all out on the 'true' game next year.

I think GameFreak's messaging in japanese was clear.

Let's Go games: "最新作", saishinsaku, the newest entry of the mainline series. Just like remakes before it.

2019 game: "完全新作", kanzenshinsaku, completely new game of the mainline series. Giving XY and SM as examples of this.

It's just a way to differinate whole new entries with remakes really.

The whole mess really comes from the translation of kanzenshinsaku as "core rpg". I think it's very misleading.

Lol. I'm not sure how anyone who watched the trailer didn't realize it was basically 3DS models with higher resolution textures and lighting. I'm hopeful for Gen 8 though. This was only made in probably under 2 years (probably once they realized Go was a hit)

Welp. Pokémon is a dead brand, I guess. They really think that this is what we wanted?

The Go line should continue on phones, not try to catch lighting in a bottle twice by tying it into the FIRST MAJOR POKÉMON Switch release.

I now have no doubt in my mind that Switch will start to lose steam. What else is there?

Lol, GFreak staying lazy. Much more powerful console yet barely looks better, and they're returning to Kanto yet again, and they only put in the 151, no random battles, lazy catching

This screams stopgap before the 2019 game

I think the art style is very nice. Happy with the graphics, personally, it's just a shame they changed the wild Pokemon battles, might be a deal breaker for me.

Ok so I've taken a few hours to digest this. First I was excited. Then as I learned more I was less excited. Now after watching the trailer a few more times I'm not excited, but I think it'll be a fun little time waster. I'll definitely get it, but I don't think it'll be a "download at midnight so I can play asap" type of purchase like with past games. I'm bummed there are no wild battles. Hopefully we'll learn more soon.

There's a lot of good in Sun/Moon when you look at the core mechanics. Unfortunately it is wrapped around in a thick thick layer of condescension, hand-holding pace, and crap story/characters. When I first played Sun and Moon I forced myself to get through that crap to uncover the good core. And I enjoyed it. But when I went back to Ultimate Sun/Moon I couldn't even bother. The pacing/dialogue was such an affront I had to stop.

I hope Let's Go will at least be forward compatible with the 2018 game, otherwise it'll feel like a waste of time to build up a team/dex if I can't bring them forward.

Seeing the grass in square patches like that with how they made pokemon encounters now seems like such a short sighted half ass design choice. They should have spruced things up more insteasd of doing a 1 for 1 when it doesnt make sense anymore

I find it ridiculous they reuse the same old goddamn map design from 1996. Didn't even realise that even the grass patches are still in a. fucking. square.

Tile-based map design on a 60$ console game in 2018.

This 'reimagination' had so much fucking potential, never mind all the Go mechanics and what not (I agree I am not the audience for that) but just the way it looks. Even when the expectations were at an all time low with all the leaks and the Lapras picture GF manages to disappoint.

Masuda said they started working on this two years ago.
