Damn you Windows Store!
I have 1 day left on my game pass subscription so I decided to download this. It froze at 26 mb and refuses to restart.
Hopefully I can get it working after work.

Had a blast last night playing co op, have no idea why impressions were so negative. Only dud was the incredible amount of bugs and glitches we encountered, we ended our session after a mission bugged out as we couldn't find the sack of wheat a friendly enclave was asking for.

Had to mess up the image to make it bright enough so forgive the weird look.

Searched a container in a warehouse and my survivor suddenly turned into a smooth criminal.

From playing MGS V to State of Decay 2, it feels so painful. The first one is like the perfect game in terms of how you control your character and overall smoothness, the second one is a clunky mess. Damn.

So yeah, had the antidote to the virus for one of my community members, pressed the wrong button resulting in pulling out a pistol and shooting her in the face instead of healing her. My bad lol.

The Xbox One renders at a native resolution of 1536x864. The Xbox One X uses a dynamic resolution with the native resolution ranging between 2688x2160 and 3840x2160. The Xbox One X has increased foliage density and increased draw distance of both foliage and shadows over the base Xbox One. The Xbox One X also features textures that are of a higher resolution than those used on the base Xbox One. There may be other graphical differences between the two consoles, but these were the most immediately obvious ones.

X and S.
So the S can go up to 60fps haha. While running against a rock tho.

Mean Frame Rate 30.34fps 37.37fps
Median Frame Rate 30fps 36fps
Maximum Frame Rate 37fps 60fps
Minimum Frame Rate 22fps 26fps

Played maybe an hour last night on 1X. I don't have my PC install started, but I probably will for co-op. I'm digging it so far, and while it looks pretty nice at times, there's enough judder to bother me (even though I don't think they're actually frame drops). I'm not sure I understand why there isn't an optional framerate cap. The gameplay/systems feel solid.

Survivors kill survivors real quick in this game. Had to get some medicine back for another group of survivors. One was wounded, and the other came along. I opted for a peaceful route, and even though I got the meds back peacefully, was still forced to fight the thieves. The NPC that came along died taking a few swings. I killed the thieves with quick headshots.

The wounded survivor just goes "That's bad luck" after I told her, her friend died.

lol that's kind of hilarious but also a bit lame. I think they did a good job of the unique dialog at the beginning but once you get your partner healed up it pretty much stops. It's understandable though, it would've been a ton of work to keep it like that throughout the game.

I also think it's funny that getting the radio that can text is just so they didn't have to do more voice acting.

Well I'm an idiot. I played like an hour last night and before bed and there was a tip before I quit the game saying it didn't save mid mission so I just hit pause and turned the TV off and went to sleep. Woke up this morning and half my survivors were dead. Definitely didn't notice that it said the game doesn't stop when you pause lol. Starting over i guess :/

It can be annoying when you just need to use the bathroom or something just long enough to matter. If I'm in solo/offline, my experience would be better if I could just pause the game. I'll always call that out, re: the game design. Particularly when you stack with with longish initial load times.

Really enjoying a lot this game. Theres always something to do in it. Also, the pace of the open world exploration is truly fantastic. Should I move a little bit more away from base, or play the conservative game?
For those with more experience with the previous game: Is there a good guide somewhere with strategies to keep resources up? Im a struggling a bit to keep good levels of med and guns. I learned yesterday that rucksacks can be packed on a car, and that definitely helps a lot, but still im very close to the red numbers.

Only met to start it up and play for a bit but ended up playing for several hours last night right until the point where I healed my partner.

Question though, it looks like there is preset starter characters, are the teammates you meet random? (ie, I met a doctor and a solider) does it change with each preset?

So how do I give the antidote to the survivor? I think it's glitched, I speak with the girl but it doesn't do anything.

I honestly don't understand the logic behind new "neighbors":

"Hey we want to build a base but you're taking up all the materials so instead of us trying to help you with our problem, you fix it for us."

"Hey thanks for helping us but we're going to take over your base that surely outnumbers us in people and firepower. You can either leave or die."

So how do I give the antidote to the survivor?
Craft it then talk to them and there's an option for it if they're infected.

Playing it on Xbox Game Pass and I'm really enjoying it. It's got that charmy AA feeling to it and while it is pretty buggy at times I don't really mind too much. I loved Mount and Blade and for some reason the base building reminds me of fief managing there.

Played a few hours last night in co opand the game is an absolute glitchy mess. Also could not connect to my friends from the PC game (they were also on PC), I kept getting an "error 6" message. Had to switch to my XBox to be able to connect. Game seriously needs some patches!

Also the perfermance on the Xbox One X was appalling. Would prefer a lower resolution and 60fps, or at least a smooth and locked 30. With the performance and the glitches, game was barely playable. Shame because it has a lot of promise.

You need to set the game to offline and it will pause when you hit the settings button.

I ran into the error 6 as well. The game site has a support faq and it covers that error. I had to turn on the Terendo service via some command prompts and it worked right away after. Was pretty smooth actually.

I tried this and when I reloaded the game, my character was 50 feet where I was originally and while beat up, she was still alive.

If you hit the back button, you should be able to switch to your community and select someone else from there.
Yeah! Thanks!

I am really liking this game so far. Feels fresh, maybe because I never played the first thoroughly. It has in my opinion great potential. I wonder what would be possible with a full budget at a 60 dollar price tag. Still, maybe that is part of the charm, that B movie feeling.

Anyone has a good faq to read and get a good understanding of all the basics of base management? Right now I still figuring out how power, noise, morale and well show all the small details work. For example, what is the best way to heal injuries? Is it to go to the infirmary and heal the character? Can I heal more than one and save resources? Who should do it? Should a just use a med pack?

I am full o little questions, in some way that makes the game fun. It is a struggle to survive.

Has there been an update from the devs on when a new patch will be out to address some of the bugs and hopefully the god awful motion blur on the Xbox One X?

2 player coop works well, but as soon as a 3rd player joins, we get random disconnects every 5-10 mins regardless of who's hosting :\
Otherwise, the game is pretty good.

I fell from the top of a cell tower trying to use the ladder, but had enough time to jump up and pull the power cord from the console. I rebooted and my character was standing at the bottom of the tower uninjured and all sites still surveyed.
Holy crap man, don't do that. Hit Guide, go to the game and choose to close it. WAY safer than pulling the power on it... Or delete your local save and pull down from the cloud again.

I can't find the post, but someone in this thread said he lost a favoured NPC companion because together they couldn't find supplies.

The companion decided to leave the group, and the player was gutted. I love stuff like that. That post, more than anything, has me considering a purchase.

I think only one character can heal at a time on the base level of the infirmary. You'll need to level it up to heal more than one member. They heal automatically for me when not being used. You can see their health and stamina going up in the community screen when looking at the individual profiles. I'm sure there are ways to speed up the healing process but I never looked into it since I'm sure that would use more resources.

I've read this a few times. that 4k obsession is ridiculous on badly performing games.

I'm not sure the resolution is that big of a problem. The game hovers around or avove 30fps the majority of the time and also uses dynamic resolution scaling. So it's not always running in 4K.

The big issue is the frame pacing, which can produce a stuttering game even if or above 30fps. They need to lock the frame rate to 30fps and make sure the frames are being distributed evenly.

I played quite a bit last night on my PC, as I was able to get it with the Game Pass.

Graphics, as expected, it's not a good looking game in the slightest. Who knew a game like this could look worse than Fallout 4, lol. It's performance is also kind of weird. No option for a cap on FPS at 30 or 60, must be because it has weird drops no matter what, I don't know. The image quality doesn't seem that good either, but maybe this is a MS store version thing.

As far as the gameplay goes, it's pretty shitty. The melee and shooting mechanics make Fallout and Skyrim look GOD TIER. Just clunky/janky garbage, imo. Then there's all of systems to keep track of. I feel like I'm trying to balance 10 spinning plates that are always starting to wobble the second after I rebalance one. I don't think I'll be playing this ever again.

My one month trial of Game Pass for $1 has so far has saved me this game and Sea of Thieves.

A few questions that don't seem evident to me after a night of playing:

1 - Do supplies restock ever after being looted? I ask because I'm curious how disposable certain things are, or if I should really, really try to only pick up those things I want/need.
2 - Is slight trauma something I need to treat? My main guy has a bit of an injury, but nothing that seems like it needs treating based on health pool alone. If it has other effects I'm unaware of, I'd be more inclined to heal him.
3 - Do survivor keep getting personal missions? I had one for my doctor, but somehow I couldn't find it on the map. Switched characters and now it's gone. Just wondering if it was particularly important or if I'm good.
4 - Right now I've got a garden, a water cooler, a workshop, an infirmary that can cure the blood plague and a command center level 2. A little confused on if I'm missing anything major or at what point I should be looking to get a bigger base instead?

Dumb question time - is this game permadeath by default or is that a special game mode?
Default. Can't change it. Its the primary mechanic of the game.

1. Once supplies are gone they are gone permanently.

2. You can heal them if you want, but you can just have them rest at your base and it will eventually go away. If that bar fills up though you will be infected with blood plague.

3. Yeah I think they keep popping up. Not sure though.

4. I'd look into setting up some outposts for certain resources like power and fuel. Starting out, I started with a workshop, garden and infirmary. Had outposts with water and fuel.

Bit confused on what water and power does, and if putting say a water mod on my beds facility does anything?

Trying to decide between Plumbing and Electricity as well.

Thanks! This is all super helpful. I thought that infection was different than trauma (I seem to have an Infirmary that wipes infection over time, but two of my characters have an icon over their head that I assumed meant they had some kind of injury that I had to treat at the infirmary and not just let slowly heal automatically.

ha ha ha I just did the same. I'm dealing with my own serious health issues so that usually has me pressing buttons immediately to move on, keep my mind elsewhere. Not a good idea for this game, just killed someone who was barely sick. I was like "what the heck?"

Game is overall very fun to play.

Infections just get halted from progressing, they don't get wiped over time (unless that changes with further upgrades). You gotta give them a cure to remove it.

Also to answer one of your other questions, the suvivor missions will pop up again at some point. I did the same thing with the doctor and a couple hours later it came back.

I had this exact thing happen over the weekend. It was pretty shortly after I assigned them to be leader too. Got the "Morale: Depressed" pop up and decided to take a break, because I too was depressed.
It was basically like that for me, too, except for some reason, he went off on his own, even though I had him as a member of my party... When he did show up, he ran right for the juggernaut instead of getting in the vehicle -.-
