no idea why I purchased this...but I did. I reckon I have bought SF2 (various versions) more than any other game

SNES
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers

Megadrive
Street Fighter II' - Champion Edition

Xbox 360
Street Fighter II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting (Live Arcade)
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

Wii
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (VC)

SNES Mini
Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers

Switch
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers

So this will effectively be the 10th time I have owned a version of SF2

Pretty excited for 30th Anniversary. I really miss the option of pressing start on the 2P controller to join in the game. That's a feature I actually miss seeing (along with entering your initials after the game ends) in fighting games. Guilty Gear, Blazblue, and KOF 14 still has this feature, at least.

Yeah, but this isn't just SF2 again. If you're tired of SF2, play Alpha 3 or Third Strike. They're way better than 2 anyway.

I can't decide whether I want the Switch or Xbox version. I like the idea of having a lot of Street Fighter games on the go but I also want to use my Xbox fightstick.

I'm in the same boat except it's Switch or Steam... If the Switch had an acceptable dpad built into the joycons then it would be a no-brainer. Also, I hate patches. So tired of it... I buy everything I can as a physical cart on Switch and I just wish these games were full-featured without a patch or download needed... Small rant. On the plus side, I am BEYOND hyped for this collection. Looking to dig into Alpha 2 and Alpha 3 as well as the first two incarnations of SF3 as I've never spent any time with any of them!

I'm sure others have suggested this but grab an adaptor so you can use your fightstick on the Switch. I've got a lovely 360 arcade stick and I bought a Brook Super Converter so I can use it on PS4 for KOF XIV etc. It's plug and play and flawless. I think Brook adaptors are endorsed by the FGC as they're lag free.

Have you used the Magic? Is it good?

I own one of these. I use my Qanba Q4Raf on my Switch with Neo-Geo stuff like Samurai Shodown 4 and Garou.

This thing should work perfectly fine if you own a Stick on another system you want to use with your Switch.

If you buy one, be sure to keep the firmware on the Magic NS updated for improved support over time.

If you are a Pad Warrior you could also grab one of those 8Bitdo SNES Pro30 controllers too which also works like a dream.

But it shouldn't be that hard to figure out that people would want the basics; vs, training and online. People would still have moaned about the lack of a world tour mode, but unlike something so simple as a training mode (which surely would be useful for beginners, unless Capcom wants to assume everyone is an expert right off the bat) I totally understand why that's missing. At least the arcade ports seem fine? Would love to hear more impressions on it though.

Keep in mind as well that the versions on disc are likely to be modified Roms from the CPS1, 2, and 3 Arcade boards, which never did have built-in training modes.

It probably would have been better off for Capcom to port console versions but then people would complain about the lack of an "Arcade perfect" port. No matter what Capcom does, someone is going to be unhappy regardless.

I think Capcom had the right idea to go with the original Arcade versions of all of the games since this is meant to celebrate the history of the series which gained its popularity from Arcades to begin with, so I can understand why they did things the way they are. However they are still shortsighted, no online with Alpha 2, training modes for only the online games, and whatnot.

It seems there at this rate there will never be a truly perfect Street Fighter collection because all the current ones including the one coming out next week all have caveats and issues that make them truly stand out, but still every single Arcade SF game from the first to 3rd Strike. Can't really complain about that.

But...they added training modes to the four games with netcode. No matter how they did it, they are in the game. Training mode and vs. are a bare minimum for fighting games, even "arcade perfect ports." It should be in every game. Except SF1, I guess? I dunno anything about that game.

I pre-purchased the game on Switch and i will later get it for PS4 when there's a deal. The Street Fighter collection on the go and docked sounds way too good. Can't wait !!!

It's not about figuring it out so much as convincing the publisher to pay for it, and when the publisher is Capcom USA there aren't many effective options beyond just hoping the audience yells at them until they have no choice but to patch them in.

On the other hand, would anyone really have objected to postponing the release a month or two to make sure these new modes got to be on the disc?

I'm with you but the percentage of people who care about the master version on the disc/card/whatever is clearly not high enough for it to register as a priority, so few publishers make the effort (and Capcom in particular has been skimping on Switch releases left and right).

Remember, they had to delay the Japanese release entirely because they tried to sell the world SKU to Japan even though the JP/World versions of certain games are distinctly different and people blew them up for it, they're skimping hardcore. (That's likely the reason A3 has online and not A2--it's the same game across versions, A2 isn't.)

You're missing the point. Unless the discs were printed already prior to March when they made a mention of the game including Vs. and Training modes, they could have made a decision then and there to postpone the game.
Ahh I see.

Well I don't think its worth such a long wait since it's probably a few mb's to dl. However, I do see your point for people that want everything included on disc.

At least the proper arcade ports shouldn't need any patches to run perfectly right off the bat though. Unless they put about as much care into it as the MMLC...

You're setting yourself up for a world of disappointment with all these purist physical disc pipe dreams.

But it's just a compilation. It really shouldn't be that hard to get 20+ year old arcade games running perfectly on modern systems. MMLC had basic issues like distorted sound which makes you wonder if they even bothered to hire testers...

Also, this is why I feel like games should be launched digitally first, and then receive a physical copy a couple of months later when all the kinks have been ironed out.

I think they made the right decision Re: arcade vs. console versions. If you are only doing one or the other and can't do both arcade should take precedent.

Wanting to initially sell the same version in Japan as the West however was a big fuckup.

As someone who's never played the PS4 port of Ultra, is it actually good?

Most people I know went back to PS3/360 instead...

I think that Capcom lost a precious oportunity to make "future proof" versions of these games. I know that this would be expensive, but we should have more definitive versions of some games (specially Alpha 3) and even the possibility to listen to the arranged soundtracks (altought I think the arcade versions are awesome)

The point of this collection is for the included games to be as close to arcade perfect as possible, for better or worse.

By the way an OT title still hasn't been decided. I'm tempted to go with:

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection |OT| We Await Your Return, Warrior

But here's a couple I've also heard that I think are good:

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection |OT| Enter the Heat of Battle and Triumph to Stand a Chance

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection |OT| We're All Family Men Now

Any other suggestions?

I didn't know the 30th Anniversary Collection was going to be a different release in Japan...I might do the following:

- US digital: Switch, Steam/PC
- JPN disc: PS4 (if I have cash to spare)

I'm a sucker for SF2 re-releases lol
