I love Ghost. Not feeling the mask though.

I'd love a Ghost/Zombie/In This Moment Halloween show. Jesus the stage show would be INSANE.

The new mask is a bit big looking. Not as tight a fit as Papa III? Maybe it was starting to get to be too much for Tobias.

I definitely agree that the act loses something without its Pope, but on the plus side, I look forward to the day that CC becomes Papa IV (or whatever they dub him to skirt around the trademark issues). Without the make-up Papas II and III also look a bit odd and we already have a little preview of the Cardinal's skull look on the album cover.

What trademark issues?

What trademark issues?

It's not officially part of the lawsuit filed by the old ghouls, but the name and character of Papa Emeritus was created by a friend of Omega and apparently Omega was the one given permission by this individual for Tobias to use the character as part of Ghost. There's been no litigation or anything as of yet on this particular topic, but it had to figure into mind when the decision was made to not have a Papa as frontman for a while.

Is this album available anywhere digitally, as in FLAC? I don't use itunes or Amazon or Google. I see that the album is available digitally on the Europe record label store but not the U.S..

HD Tracks has their last album available. The new one isn't supposed to be out for a couple weeks, unless they've moved the date up.

Weird, I had never heard of this band until just the other day, when one of my coworkers posted a bunch of pictures from a show he went to. He bought the VIP package and posted a picture of himself with the singer, and I was super confused as to why this guy was wearing an old man mask, haha. Reading their wikipedia page after reading this thread has been very enlightening.

You should definitely give them a listen, fantastic stuff.

I like the whole "gimmick" but the music doesn't hit hard enough for me. I'll check out the album though.

Official version of "Dance Macabre" has been released. Tobias called it a disco song. I can't say I disagree. I really like it. though.

Thats kinda my take too.

The music doesnt fit the imagery.

But, Im also of the opinion that id you have to lean that heavily on a gimmick, then your music is probably nothing all that great.

So far what I have heard from Ghost confirms that.

Entirely disagree. While their newer stuff is a little more 80s rock, their previous album (Meliora) and the albums before that all had songs that were perfectly in line with their imagery.

Check out:
"Mummy Dust"
"From the Pinnacle To The Pit"
"Year Zero"
"Spirit"

Even the lighter stuff from those CDs have pretty dark undertones if you read/listen to the lyrics. The entire thing is tongue-in-cheek of course, but thats part of why they are so entertaining.

I'm calling it now, once he goes back to a new Papa, people from then on will hold reverence for this era. In 10 years people will be like "you got to see them in the Cardinal era!? So sick."

Considering it's Ghost, maybe both, kind of a play on words

After hearing Dance Macabre...I think it was a really smart idea for them to put out Rats first. Dance Macabre is very different from anything they've done before. It would have been a bad idea to put this song out first. Gotta say I honestly don't love it.

I do like Rats, though. I understand they have to expand and try new things but I would have rather them gone even heavier and darker.

It is good thing that we get live records of Dance, because it is much better live compared to the studio version (and I really like them live). Still kudos to them for trying new things.

I also hear 'I wanna bewitch you in the moonlight'. And I really hope that they extend the Rats tour to Europe, because setlist slays

In absentia, Absolution, Monstrace Clock, He Is, all great light songs about the glory of satan.

They are the warm up for Guns N Roses this summer on a couple of concerts, so I will watch them live for the first time. Looking forward to it.

While I knew of ghost I had never listened until reading this thread so thank you for that, I enjoy them very much, especially the first album.

Dance Macabre is more or less them doing more stuff like Square Hammer, and that is totally okay in my book. Finally heard the studio version, and that is firmly earworm material. Can't wait for the rest of the album.

Really like Dance Macabre the song, but holy shit the video is terrible. I'm a Pantera fan though, so it was good to see Anselmo there.

So fucking bad though.

Dance Macabre is fucking disgusting. Like, what kind of Hair metal shit is that, and that chorus, OMG. I was already kinda worried with rats because it has no chorus, but it had a nice beat. This shit ... just no.

This is the problm with gimmick bands, they start well, but then go to shit when they want to stretch themselves into their own boundaries.

Swuare Hammer was great, this is just corny dad rock.

Get outta here. I like it. Its a new persona.... Different music. He even said its a little more disco.

And what are you talking about gimmick bands suck after awhile. Slipknot and Mushroomhead may not be as relevant now a days but still put out great music. I look at these guys like Alice Cooper.. A theatrical band not hitting all the fan base with certain songs but everything is still great

Dance macabre is stuck in my head, but I don't think I like it very much. I can tell it's gonna be one I'll skip. Faith is bloody awesome though.

It's really stupid that the UK store sells the WAVFLAC/MP3 versions of the album, but not the U.S. store. But, being the states, I could buy the digital version just fine.

Yo. I was there too. Very front and center. My wife loves the band, I'm in the middle. I like Dance Macebe, but she has played the piss out of it LOL. She did the meet and greet, while I secured the spot.

Going to Ft. Wayne show tomorrow. Just regular VIP.

Been blasting this record the whole day now. The previous albums have been perfect but this is bit of a mixed bag. Both of the +5min instrumentals really hurt the pacing and they're not that great. Pro Memoria sounds something like a random shitty band that's trying to copy Ghost, it's just bad. But then there's Faith, See the Light, Witch Image and Life Eternal that are fucking awesome.

I'm eagerly waiting for tomorrow to hear the 2 bonus songs!

Damn, I have to wait until tomorrow to get the digital downloads that came with the vinyl from Loma Vista. Enjoy! I'm pumping some live performances now to hold myself over.

They killed it earlier this month in Camden. Shortened set (as it was part of a festival "BBQ") but excellent nevertheless. Was nice to hear Faith and Dance Macabre live.

Album is... pretty fantastic. The singles are the weakest tracks for sure. The second instrumental is specially breathtaking. Not as dark as previous albums, but pretty good!
