The thing about that, BossAttack, is you have to sift through a lot of mediocrity (or downright awful) episodes to get to the good ones, especially with voyager.

I mean, while i'd Love the slow burn again I am not entirely convinced the mass market are that patient.

First off, I think the average Voyager episode is better than pretty much any Disco episode. Second, why does it have to be a slow burn? Why can't we just get good episodes right away? We just sat through an entire season of Discovery in which nothing happened, it failed for me as a compelling serialized drama, and then it failed again at being a Trek show. It'd be one thing if the serialized, character focused story was good, then we'd have a different problem. But, to me, it fails at both attempts so I'm left completely unsatisfied. In the age of amazing serialized shows like Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Mr. Robot, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, hell even The Expanse, I just don't see how Disco even remotely approaches good nor is it some unique concept. Shit, even DS9's serialization by the end was more compelling than Disco. So, what exactly is Disco trying to do? Is it a Trek show or a serialized, character drama? Pick one and commit to making it good.

Watching TNG on Netflix and the remaster looks so good,

DS9 and Voyager need it so badly the difference between all good things and DS9s pilot is shocking

Early DS9 always looked kinda bad.

Felt like they got all the bad cameras and Valvoline filters left over from TNG S1-S2

LOL. At this point, I've come to enjoy your ongoing rage posts. I disagree, but your committment to posting about something you hate is impressive.

Did not realize the design of the Discovery was so hated. I really like it personally.
The first time they revealed the ship in a CG video, it was met with a LOT of criticism (mine included)...

WIth some better textures and lighting it doesn't look AS BAD as it used to, but the hull is still fugly.... but I actually like the rotating parts of the saucer section

I wish they had kept the shorter nacelles.

I never hated Discovery, and since the start of the show I've actually come to rather like it—I'm gonna get a model to go with my Shenzhou.

This is pretty much where I stand. The design on Federation ships in general is starting to get out of control with aztecing. Tone that down massively would help. In Discovery's case in particular, regardless of the shape of the vessel, it would look better with different textures (not so shiny metal) and if they would stop making all of the scenes so darkly lit.

Watching that gif again just makes me realise how gorgeous the design of the Enterprise is compared to the Discovery.

I don't think it helps that Discovery or the Crossfield class in some ways doesn't look very typically Starfleet or what were used to, it's probably the most alien looking ship we've seen. It's very flat looking compared to what we're used to, it's also quite a dark ship compared to the usual grey. Even ships that were similarly longer and flatter designs like the Sovereign or Intrepid still kept the typical nacelle separated by pylons from the hull, the Discovery doesn't do this, in many ways it looks like a triangle with a saucer section and nacelles glued onto the side.

Compared to the other ships we've seen in the show, notably all the ones at the battle of the binary stars and even the one in the second gif it went to defend it's the least typical looking we've seen so far in this visual update.

It's not that I don't like it, it's an interesting looking ship, but with its darker colouring and gaps in the saucer it still looks like someone made the Phase 2 concept and Vengeance from Into Darkness have a baby.

You mean besides that time she fell in-love with a female? Sexuality is a spectrum and Jadzia-Dax is certainly not "Straight". Maybe Jadzia was hetero-normal but Jadzia-Dax is someone else all together isn't she?
The difference is that it's the Trill falling in love with another Trill. I don't even know if the slugs have a gender.

Meanwhile when this happened with Crusher, basically the relationship ended because two women aren't allowed to be together so they just give up and end their relationship on the spot. She was ready to fuck a possessed Riker, but not a female host. :p

She didn't fall in love with a female though, it was a previous hetero relationship resurfacing while in same sex hosts. If you watch the actual kiss scene too they actually drop the Jadzia/Leona(??) personas and speak as their previous hosts.

Jeez, since Discovery was much more of a disappointment for me, I've been rewatch a good amount of Voyager episodes for the last couple days. I miss actual good Trek and not fricking Star Wars (ignore avatar). Like, how many actual real Trek episodes were there in this entire season? I'm talking an episode that actually explores some ethical issue or tough moral dilemma? Two or three at best? Why can't I get shit like the Voyager episode I just watched where they meet a group of aliens that have eliminated crime by outlawing and eliminating all violent thoughts? Something where you feel like an actual explorer encountering strange new worlds with unique cultures presenting you with interesting philosophical questions? Is it wrong to police thought? Are violent thoughts necessary? That's actually interesting stuff. You know what isn't interesting? Whether Ash and Michael will hook up, whether the Federation will lose the war we know they will lose, whether the evil Lorca will be defeated who has no interesting view points beyond being evil.

Keep your Star Wars out of my Star Trek. I may be a 100% Star Wars shill, but I'm not such a shill that I want every show to be Star Wars.

*slow clap*

I still have faith that future seasons of Discovery will be better. Season 1 was a long origin story, now that this is done they should be good to go on some actual fucking exploring.

I think the second half is better because they actually bothered to tell us a serialised story like they promised us (well for four episodes).

Rewatching Season 3 of TNG and it is Classic Trek at its Peak every episode is gold culminating in the amazing Best of both Worlds part 1.

Star Trek in that style would never reach those amazing heights again

A few more tidbits about season 2

Star Trek: Discovery Season Two Hints

"We also knew that we couldn't hold off on this because there are so many questions about Burnham in regards to the notion of Sarek and Spock's family, which is not to say that we're introducing Spock at the moment," said Aaron Harberts. "We don't want to spoil anything. But it's certainly time to get the audience understanding that we fully intend to respect the original series and respect where Discovery falls in that. To do that, we have to show the Enterprise and at least have these ships cross paths."

... "When we think about the idea of Captain Pike, it opens up some large possibilities. We will never say never to exploring him a little bit more."

Before the Enterprise showed up, Discovery was en route to pick up their new captain. Will that happen when the second season kicks off? "This is a story about detours," said Harberts.

Discovery is finished with the Mirror Universe, at least for now, but what about Prime Universe Lorca, or Mirror Universe Georgiou? "If they're out there, the possibilities are endless," said Berg. "Never say never. That's the great thing about this universe: there are so many more different ways to go. I can't confirm or deny anything, but…"

"If we find Prime Lorca," said Harberts. "I sort of want to find him making artisan sourdough bread in a bakery in San Francisco. That's how that storyline could start and we'd just build from there."

There is some more stuff about Stamets but we've heard about that before so I didn't post it.

I would be interested in learning more about Pike but that would be difficult without showing Spock.

Prime Lorca meaning a story that Jason will sign off on to re-appear

Spock ain't happening... way too controversial.

Captain Pike will more than likely happen.

Discovery is to Trek, what Caprica was to BSG.

Not needed, terribad shlock modeled after the worst comic book shows and crime melodramas. It took a few interesting ideas, but never capitalized on them.

I watched it all and tried to like it, but frak there's sooooooo much better TV out there. Like tons. There's no reason to play with Trek flavored tripe that takes all the wrong lessons from the better shows that get it right.

I feel like it would be pretty shitty and stupid of them to retcon Michael into Spock's family and then never show their relationship (or lack thereof) on screen.

I really liked Discovery so I'll be here Day 1
I just finished my binge last night. Really enjoyed it. I'm kind of tempted to do the same thing next season though. Just binge it after the entire season is out. Apparently everywhere outside the US just gets to watch it on Netflix while CBS insists on their own streaming service in the states.
