I like how Hit Beerus and Black feel right at home with the older characters, something I felt GT characters were never able to, Super 17 and even SS4 always looked out of place for me.

That and my god Hit is so much fun

So I beat story mode yesterday night and the final boss was...interesting. As a disclaimer, I don't consider myself to be competitive/pro-level or anything, at best I'm maybe in the better 40% of casual players.
I got to the boss and remembered how people on either this thread or the previous thread were making a big deal about how hard the fight was. The boss being what it was story-wise, I certainly expected a great challenge and prepared for it mentally. Then I head into the fight...and beat the boss with two of my fighters at full health and my point with 85% health. So I'm like "nah there's some shenanigans coming up or something" and sure enough, cutscene plays out and I get to the screen prompting me to confirm I'm ready for the real final fight and for literally five minutes I was like "Ok ok ok man I get it ok ok man ok ok man I see now ok etc." because I had PTSD flashbacks to the final fight against Bison in SFV and thought this was gonna be on the same level.
Beat it on my first try with 95% health. So yeah...I don't know who is at fault nor does that matter but damn the final boss was not what I expected.

So just finished the first 'arc' of the story. Gotta admit, it was boring and the fact that the characters didn't even bother to question certain things and there wasn't really much of a conclusion annoys me.

Disappointed.

Hope the next two are better.

(Presentation is pretty good, I really like the cutscenes outside of some of the animations feeling slow)

They get better story-wise. The last one is fantastic IMO.

I ended up in practice mode with Gotenks, SSGSS Vegeta, and Goku Black... and I love this team:

FYI, if you see the combo counter change from orange to blue, that means that the opponent could've recovered at some point during the combo. When you do the change to Goku Black after the Gotenks launch an actual opponent could recover and possibly punish you.

How is that team working for you btw. I'm messing around with Gohan(Adult), Vegeta(SSJ), and Goku(SSJ) and I want to fit SSB Vegeta somewhere but his assist doesn't really cover Gohans offense.

I really wish Tien had a few more voice clips for after the attack goes off. After you do it a few times, he should go "not again..." instead of the exhausted "WHY YOU...!", especially if you finish off the enemy with it.
Never heard any of these because I'm listening to the superior japanese audio unlike a savage lol.
After Dragonball Super its bizarre for me to hear Goku or anyone without their japanese voice actors carrying them. Goin back was cringe worthy hearing our voice work.

Piccolo feels so weird.

All his attacks and the abundance of cinematic elements in them feel so slow and yet it feels like you have to follow up your attacks way earlier than your mind seems to think it should.

Don't think too hard about combos. I won many matches in the beta with auto combo even by just figuring out when to block, and when my opponents do an unsafe attack string and I punish. Sometimes you have to "wait your turn". The combos and better punishes will come with practice, but being able to be calm under pressure is much more important.

Finally managed to win a match. I won the first round, lost the rematch and then finally won again the third match. I always said to myself "block, be calm under pressure, wait for your turn ... block, be calm under pressure, wait for your turn" lol

Yep, that is how it is supposed to go, wait for your turn or for them to do something unsafe and punish them for it. It's understandable that many people just mash though, as offense is very rewarding in this game and the defensive options are few.

I'm using 18 in story mode and she's pretty cool. I have trouble continuing the combo after after 2H, 214M. It's the one in her combo trials. I have to dash after the 17 assist but it's hard since I can't see myself.

But there is no 'wait for your turn'. Fighting games aren't turn based. They are 'frame-based'. Meaning, if your attack activates on frame #2 and your opponent's attack activates on frame #4 and you both attack at sametime, then your attack will connect and from there you can proceed to punish.

1) how do I get a KO bonus?
2) should I be fighting every battle that pops up on the story mode map or just the rescues and boss battles?
3) I unlocked my first "link event" but it seems to just be a small cutscene...is that it?
4) should I focus on dumping story mode exp into 3 characters for the highest level possible or should I focus on leveling everybody up equally by switching up my team in between every match?

Just wondering how many people jumping into this are (like me) basically totally new to fighting games?

Last fighting game that even interested me was Tekken 3! I am really into this, but don't expect to actually win an online game for weeks!

If I am ever going to get into the fighting genre....this will be it
I'm basically new to traditional fighting games. I played Smash 4 competitively but those skills don't really transfer to this game. I also played some SFV but dropped that pretty quickly. I plan to learn this game seriously though. So far I'm focusing on basics like blocking and countering with some basic combos for each of my 3 characters. Using tags to extent combos and so on I don't even try to use yet, learning to be decent with 3 characters is difficult enough as it is. I'm starting to see some improvements in my play though and I'm basically treating story mode as a makeshift training mode for some universal combos since the NPCs barely move anyway :p

Thanks, I didn't know that.

Well, I just started playing around with this team. No idea how goof the assists work, but overall it's a lot of fun :D

No shit it's not a turned based game. But there is the sense of waiting your turn as in, sometimes you can't just use moves hoping you'll land a hit. You have to know which moves "keep your turn" or interrupt "an opponent's turn" and when it's time for you to block and wait. I don't think explaining frame data to newcomers is necessarily the best approach.

That's what I did tbh. Though i got lucky that one of the characters I like has a godlike assist that works with damn near everything (SS Vegeta)

The key I'm using is to identify gaps where I could potentially continue the combo if someone managed to land a hit for the opponent to continue being juggled. Like so:

For whatever reason I have not been using assists as much as I should be. Been loving both of these characters too though; them and Frieza.

I tried listening to the English dub, but after watching all of super in Japanese I just can't go back lol. Glad they did a good job with it though.

I've been the opposite actually. Going back to the English dub has been music to my ears haha. No more ear grating Goku and Gohan yells. Wish we could choose by character though, as I have some ones I prefer from the JPN dub.

Is there any way to get saved replays to a video file on PC? Or do I need to use something like fraps?
You'll need to use recording software to just record the replay. The replays are really just the match data (inputs and the like) so you can't just look in a folder and pull them out.

If you're on Windows 10 you could use the Xbox game recording stuff (I use it to capture highlights for Overwatch and PUBG) or if you have an Nvidia card Shadowplay would work too.

Does anyone know if you get a header (for your player card) of A21 when you unlock her?

PS - Also, is there a lobby character of A21?

Disagree'd. Injustice 2, for example, reveals frame data right there in the UI. Most any fighting game tutorial for newcomers will begin with frame data and go into detail about 'safe on block' etc

If he's losing a lot, then we need to offer constructive criticism on what they can improve on

There are lobby characters for both forms of 21 (I don't know if you can start getting them before unlocking her to fight with though). I assume you also get a header for her, I can't remember but I might've seen someone use it?

Is there a list of all the special events yet?
For story mode?

Why can I not get jump cancelling down? I can't seem to consistently get the timing right.
Might just be over thinking it. Just jump when your attack hits an opponent, there's no special timing to it. Easy way to practice is to pick someone like Goku and do 2M > 5M > jump cancel > j.L until it feels normal. Then from there, try doing double jump cancels during air combos.

Worth noting that you can jump cancel on block during sparking too. Don't see a lot of people taking advantage of that yet.

You'd be surprised how much more personality characters tend to have when you can actually understand what they're saying. The dub has lots of little notes like that, character interactions you wouldn't get if you were playing with the Japanese audio.

For example, Ginyu yells "GOKU'S SON!" when he tags Gohan in for an assist.

I think the English voices are pretty well done here. But I get where you are coming from- since I've grown used to the Japanese audio over the years in the series

Yeah, exactly. I don't fault anyone for going with the original voices for this (or the show, really), but in a game like this, you miss out on a lot of those little in-game soundbites that can't really be subtitled in the middle of a match.

So for anyone who is scavenging tech, how do you guys go about? There has got to be a more efficient way of doing this than what I'm currently doing.
The lack of a concentrated forum is seriously frustrating to me, I feel like I have to be on top of feeds 24/7 to pick out relevant stuff and that is just not productive in any way. I'm spending way more time trying to get info than I ever have before.

What's the difference between a yellow or green square next to the players name?

Right, but I don't think explaining frame data is quite the way to go. It's too much detail for a person brand new to fighting games who hasn't yet figured out pressing buttons isn't the whole game. And almost all fighting game tutorials are absolute trash imo.

The game's way of showing player skill. In the beta it went from white to green to orange to purple (and so on)

This, you dont need to make an excel sheet with frame data to understand that when the oponnent is on your ass you need to block.

Join the largest Discord Server for the game you can find and see if there's a dedicated server for the character you like. It sucks but that's just the general state of fighting games these days.
