Isn't this technically a DMCA violation? The exemption for reverse engineering devices for security research is that it needs to be done in "good faith." Refusing to disclose the vulnerability so you can charge money for exploiting it isn't good faith, is it?

the dmca was always 99% broken. hence why virtually no one has ever been brought up solely on encryption bypass charges or similar.
literally the only valid part of DMCA is the part that essentially mandates that physical common sense IP laws continue into the digital world.
I wouldn't doubt they've already done that. I wonder how long it will take them to figure out the exploit and patch it.

Thank you for the clarification. Wasn't overly familiar with the subject yet. Thought it was just discussing the chip that they have in there devices. Wasn't aware of the overall locations of the chip.
I feel the reason they feel this is a justified amount is. Apple users like me have been around for a long time. All of our records are stored in those data files. I would say my life is worth that amount.
Edit: However, for as long as I have invested in Apple. I feel they need to get this fixed as a higher priority than me shelling out for this.
The T2 is in the iMac Pro and all 2018 models (MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Mini). It has nothing to do with iOS.

If true, this affects every single phone as far as the security company reported. The thoughtful think to do in that situation is to do a PSA warning EVERYONE that their data may be at risk (IFFFFF... someone gets physical access to it).

Yeah the news here is that every device running iOS 12 is vulnerable. They have done similar things on different Android's before but iOS was secure of these issues until recently.
The real concern is that they won't disclose the flaw they are using.

They can make a ton of money off it. I'll bet they're getting huge offers to sell the exploit exclusively.

Just seems odd since they have a very good relationship with Apple, they have a special discount deal for Apple specifically. I've been told that they are also the brand that the Apple Store will often recommend.
