Whats even worse about this, is the company has been working with them for years. So for them to not work with apple makes me believe they have found a code at the root of the code, something at the base of ios12. Hopefully an update or patch can correct but when asking for that kind of money. Makes you wonder.
Yeah looking them up they are like the premier data recovery company, I wonder if there are nefarious reasons they won't reveal like they received a large investment from the FBI or GRU...

the dmca was always 99% broken. hence why virtually no one has ever been brought up solely on encryption bypass charges or similar.

literally the only valid part of DMCA is the part that essentially mandates that physical common sense IP laws continue into the digital world.
.

I would say I would agree with this as well. It exists but no one ever brings this to the table.

My concern is what would they have to gain? Then again Trump does use an Iphone lol

The link in the article of the OP to the website lists that it has 100% success with any device

https://drivesaversdatarecovery.com...s-and-tablets/passcode-lockout-data-recovery/

  • Samsung
  • Apple
  • Huawei
  • Lenovo
  • Xioami
  • LG
  • ZTE
  • Oppo
  • iOS
  • Android
  • Windows
  • BlackBerry
So how is this an iOS12 "problem" OP?

Apple has been known for a long time for being fairly secure devices. This company is saying they have access to information that they shouldn't.

You think it has anything to do with the T2 chip you posted about? What if they found away around the chip?

I feel the reason they feel this is a justified amount is. Apple users like me have been around for a long time. All of our records are stored in those data files. I would say my life is worth that amount.

Edit: However, for as long as I have invested in Apple. I feel they need to get this fixed as a higher priority than me shelling out for this.

iOS 12 could fix grayscale which could bruteforce the passcode to access the iphone. I could imagine that drivesavers found a similar exploit now for ios12

It's all fixable. The only two things that are immutable on an iPhone is the Boot ROM and the Apple Root CA public key.

An embarrassing Apple doom and gloom article from some rando Forbes contributor. Is that you OP?

Announcement: "100% success rate in unlocking basically every smartphone from every maker!" (which is very strange to begin with)

Pseudo-analyst and OP's spin:

"WOW IOS 12 BIG EXPLOIT APPLE IS IN TROUBLE"

Lmao. More phone warring.

Wanna... Actually read the thread next time before posting? This isn't a random article this is a legitimate company now offering full iOS12 unlocks and data dumps.

Keep your hate and platform wars shelved.

If true, this affects every single phone as far as the security company reported. The thoughtful think to do in that situation is to do a PSA warning EVERYONE that their data may be at risk (IFFFFF... someone gets physical access to it).

The company may be legitimate, the Forbes contributor is the random one and fills his whole article with ridiculous Apple doom and gloom. This is being spun to focus on iOS 12 why, exactly? Pathetic.

Because they have offered this ability on the other platforms for a while. What's news is the iOS12 use now.

By OPs logic a new thread should be made for every release of every new phone or software revision.

"Major [insert phone or OS release here] data vulnerability found"

?

Everytime a major data vulnerability is found it should be pointed out...

The guy who has gotten bans for platform wars really shouldn't be throwing stones.

or, the guy who has been banned for it can better spot it and stop it before it grows out of hand. Knock it off

So every device in the list is vulnerable?
Yeah the news here is that every device running iOS 12 is vulnerable. They have done similar things on different Android's before but iOS was secure of these issues until recently.

The real concern is that they won't disclose the flaw they are using.

Let's knock it off with attacking the OP's history and focus on the thread itself. If there's a position presented that you want to discuss/argue over, then fine, but stop with the derails.

If you believe anything to be platform warring you are more than welcome to report it and we can take a look.

Thanks Hecht.

If anyone is interested we can still discuss this news without derailing. I am myself very curious how it's done

They can make a ton of money off it. I'll bet they're getting huge offers to sell the exploit exclusively.

Hopefully Apple can figure it out.
Just seems odd since they have a very good relationship with Apple, they have a special discount deal for Apple specifically. I've been told that they are also the brand that the Apple Store will often recommend.
