I'm curious as to what it actually even is :-/ - https://www.battlefield.com/news/tides-of-war-begin-with-your-company-battlefield-5 - what are we actually expecting? New archetypes seems to be a given - new weapons? New modes? New factions?
Tides of war is just their GAAS style live service. It incorporates new stuff regularly coming with updates.
So new weapons, maps, customisations, assignments etc....
I assume that they will structure it in a way that provides specific challenges to complete within each "season" or whatever.
The idea is to follow the path of WW2 with new maps, factions, weapons etc. Early 1940 at the moment, so things will progress on. What else they release is to be announced.
No Tides of War are season. The one we get next week is called Overture.
Only thing we dont know yet really is how the Tides of War rank is gonna work.
The bombers are so good, really looking forward to getting some upgrades on the fighters so I can take them down easier, they have so much health and the rear gun can tear through you!
I think maybe they should have considered giving the first plane you unlock.in the list some sort of specialisation tree similar to the first gun for each class. But I guess then you have the same problem when you switch to another plane. The 8 gun Spitfire just destroys.

I don't think it's going to be wildly successful; my hope is that it's successful enough that it remains supported, as the base of a truly incredible MP game is present in this.

Playing on PC and I love this game, feels so great to play.
That being said, I feel like I can't keep up with the player-base skill. My reflexes aren't what they used to be.... all I want to do is just tear it up a bit... is that too much to ask for :p

Is there any cheating problems on PC? I'm not one to usually complain about my poor performance, but I keep getting one shotted with the Lewis gun from outta nowhere. Guy was 50-2 for two matches straight. The last few matches I join all points fall to the enemy teams in the first 5 minutes then they spend the next 5 choking us to death. It's really bummin me out.
m+k for flying hasn't clicked at all for me. Once I got my CH Products Combatstick set up, j+k has been pretty solid. I think if I were to try mouse again I would do something like pitch and yaw both on mouse for fine aiming only, WASD would do pitch and roll and throttle would be... well somewhere. The default m+k controls + spacebar for pitch up thing was a complete struggle but it clearly works for a lot of people.

By the way, is there a bug when looking for servers? I look for Conquest servers and it shows GO that's currently on a Conquest Map.
Also, who's from south america here? There are like 5 servers at a time with people everytime. I love playing the game on PC, but boy do I miss how full everything is on consoles. Luckily I can still play on US servers
Does the weapon unlock fix mean I can equip a new weapon right away or do I still have to wait until next round? (I think it's a feature, but I hope they get rid of it)

I use default controls for flying and don't have a problem. I don't really have any advice though because I can't really explain what I do. It's easy and intuitive for me.
I've been playing battlefield since 1942 beta waaaaay back when. Now in my 30's and I can't keep up with these young whippersnappers lol :p
Still crazy fun to play this, I bet if I had a squad to play with I would do better. Every game is me just solo queuing and joining a random squad.
Yeah, sadly the Specializations just digs its own hole. I can't imagine how horrible it is going to be in a month or so as a new player having to go up against decked out Spitfires/Messerschmitts who have better agility, better weapons etc. or bombers with improved machinegun turrets and more. They're already becoming a problem just for the fact that AA turrets stand no chance of stopping bombers (who also have a specialization of "reduced explosion damage").
It's gonna either have to be redesigned or this will snowball into a extremely big balance problem.
Not that most people give a toss, they want their precious "progression" no matter how awful it turns out....
Well Tides of War is most about MP. We are not getting any SP after this one.
I've been playing multiplayer shooters on and off since freaking Doom on the DWANGO service. Sure my reflexes were probably better in 1994 but reflexes aren't everything. Put in the time and play smart and you too can achieve moderate success like me!
I'm in my 30s and I feel like I'm at the top of my game lol. These damn kids might have better reflexes now but I've got experience on my side!

I posted about this in the PS4 Pro thread but felt it would make sense here as well. There is a low latency mode coming for consoles that maximizes frame rate and low input lag. Unfortunately it was delayed but tiggr_ confirmed it was still coming.

I had started playing this via the 10 hour trial on EA access but i bought the full game digitally over the weekend. Do I need to do anything special to end the trial version, or delete and re-DL from XBL?
See I don't like this on console for MP games. Don't give us options, decide what the best way to present your game is and then ensure everyone is on a level playing field.
Now we'll all be compelled to go down this route, losing resolution and fidelity we've become accustomed too. This should just be the standard mode out of the gate for a game like this, for everyone.
Comparing a choice if you want higher res or not and most people will choose better visuals. There really isn't anything wrong with a choice when the option is just adjusting what the dynamic resolution targets. Someome more competitive minded people will go low latency and the difference won't be that big.
I still have to unlock the Thompson but I've been having great results with the MP40/MP28, love both of them. I generally use the MP40 (right-tree for specializations) in open maps like Hamada/Fjell, and the MP28 (left-tree) for maps with lots of closed areas like Devastation

As you can see here I am hot garbage at this game. That said, though, I am having a lot of fun with it. I feel like I am getting better with each game and things definitely pick up once you can leave the starter weapons behind! Still waiting on my other BF4 squadmates to get theirs (they got it super cheap somewhere but it's held up in shipping hell) but if anyone wants to add me in the meantime, feel free!
I remember having so much fun shooting them hillwookies with tracer darts that stuck on their face, making them blind from the light and also visible to any enemy sniper/slightly-above-average-shot across the map. :D
As an assault main since the Bad Company 2 days I'm having trouble finding a weapon I really love. The assault rifles feel decent at short to mid-range but I struggle to find my rhythm in long distance shootouts, moreso than in other Battlefield games (except BF1). Obviously the semi-auto rifles are better for long range but at that point I just feel like a poor man's recon. Any thoughts from seasoned assault players? Hopefully I'll get better over time but I'm wondering if I should just accept my short to mid-range fate and start playing medic more.
For anything above mid range, learning to tap fire is important. Also, having the specializations that focus around less recoil and ads speeds etc are better if you tend to have more mid to long range fights, since hip fire bonus won't help you that much.
Hopefully in the December 4th patch, they make a pass over all the assignments to fix the grammar and phrasing. For instance, the last Gewher 43 proficiency challenge says to get 10 kills in a round, but I'm pretty sure it's 10 headshot kills in a round.
