Companies do that all the time, I remember one that deleted all the rational and polite criticisms from a trailer and let the ones made by absolute shitheads intact

People don't understand that this is not a product aimed at the traditional Diablo player base. They are absolutely working on Diablo 4 and they even released a PR statement saying that Diablo 4 is being worked on but isn't being announced at Blizzcon. Anyone angered by this only has themselves to blame.

This is disrespectful and cringe-worthy. This person and anyone laughing at this should really dial it back.

So I only half heard this stuff due to only seeing it because I am on giantbombs extralife stream and they watched it but doesn't blizzard hype up and charge people to attend blizcon for these announcements?

So this os similar to sakurai doing a trolling direct if he didnt end with the amazing world of light storymode to save it?
i think some devs and publishers need to understand how to present things if they dont want to create chaos with their audience.

If you laughed at this or thought it was clever than you are part of the problem. I almost wish ResetEra didn't become a place for hot scoops/breaking news to the degree it has because the influx of trash, negativity spewing elitist "core gamers" on this side of the boards is really beyond the pale. Be it Blizzard threads or Smash threads some of yall really are a bunch of do-nothing-but-complain-about-everything black holes.

Thanks for this sanctimonious nonsense, helps knowing when to block someone.

- audience of predominantly PC gamers
- audience of the most hardcore fans of Blizzard franchises
- conference specifically aimed at those hardcore PC gaming fans
- final, most exciting announcement after two hours of anticipation

"Hey guys Diablo has been farmed out to a Chinese mobile developer!"

THIS. I thought maybe Blizzard was going to fix Diablo with D4 but instead they outsource it. They should be giving us a hardcore dark gothic game to appease their old school fans, instead, they go and make a janky looking mobile game.

Its amazing how Nintendo is one of the few companies that understands that you should show off mobile games separate from the enthusiast events

Nintendo is also smart enough to just say, "Hey, we know you want a 'real,' non-mobile version of this game, so here's a thirty-second teaser for it on this Direct, it comes out whenever we get finished making it, so please shut the fuck up about it."

Or alternately, they do this with offshoots of their IPs. "Hey, we're doing a Let's Go-style Pokemon for Switch, but just so you don't wail incessantly about this, we're also doing a traditional Pokemon RPG, no we don't even have a teaser yet, but trust us, we're on it, don't @ us about this."

Other companies should take note.

At least the game being developed by other studio means Blizzard still has an inhouse team focusing on a main game, aka possible Diablo sequel.

Bethesda, Nintendo and Microsoft all handle their mobile announcements better and nobody cared.

Blizz handles it the worst way and everybody notices and cares.

What is this thread smoking.

This idea that mobile game announcements need to be perfectly timed not to hurt the feelings of "hardcore gamers" is ridiculous. Take a step back and think about it for a moment.

And they have plenty of similar games that are basically reskins of each other.

I'm noticing that the people defending them aren't even big fans of the franchise. You can't understand our disappointment. No use in us going back and forth tbh.

Yes, the perfect timing of "literally any day and hour but the closing attraction of blizzcon opening ceremony". So hard to nail, geez.

I think if youre big enough of a blizz fan to buy tickets, take a plane, book a hotel and go to a convention for blizzard fans who primarily play on PC youd expect something more.

This isnt even like E3 or something. This is a convention focused on pleasing fans 100%. Theres nothing more to this conversation.

We can do this with a lot of games. There are mobile games that look like Call of Duty from a simple screenshot. The real difference lies in gameplay polish when you actually have it in your hands.

People don't want mobile versions of bigger platform games that are established. Especially if you tout it as the next chapter, ESPECIALLY if you make it seem like a bigger deal than it is.

Don't know how companies keep making this mistake. Mobile is a fine platform, this game looks fine, but shit, stop being surprised when its not what your established fans want.

I, uh, watched that trailer and shrugged.

It said something about mobile and I pretty much knew it was something I wasn't ever going to be interested in.

That is all true. But it still is a completely botched reveal. The reaction would be a lot less volatile if they had just gone and said "And don't worry guys, there's other stuff for Diablo in the pipeline!". Instead, they made this reveal in front of the PC-playing hardcore fan crowd after hyping up Diablo's presence at their PC player hardcore fan crowd event.

I don't really care much for Diablo, myself, but I can completely relate with the fans who are left disappointed and angry at this.

None of this justifies the straight up toxicity on display but sure, totally Blizzard's fault.

I mean, considering how toxic the reaction is, and how they don't actually owe people anything, and they even told people to not be hyped up, I don't see why we should pile on Blizzard here. This GaMeRs RiSe UP bullshit of exploding on devs when they do something that you're not into has gotten quite old to me over the course of this year.
is it really that though? the first new Diablo game in 6 years & it's Mobile only, it's very disappointing. Even some of the MVP's on the D3 forum, who are extremely respectful, are upset about this.

All that time spent reskinning another mobile game and someone wants to ask if it's an April Fools joke?

Where did humanity go wrong? I thought a lot had gone wrong in the last few years but this is too far.

What "straight up toxicity"? The guy asking if it was aprils fool joke? I agree it was uncalled for and said it in another thread. The guy who just asked if it would be mobile forever and got a "don't you have a cellphone????" answer? Other people who - gasp - disliked a youtube video or are not happy about it and posted about it on an internet forum? How deluded you need to be to think every negative feedback equals toxicity?

Perhaps Blizzard should stop doing these conventions every year if it's obvious they do not have the content output to match it. Keep in mind they ask 200 dollars for a ticket.

While I think it's important to note that we can all have an opinion on this, looking down in that Twitter thread:

Jason might not want to get on his high horse about people's obnoxious behavior. Fans of a franchise are allowed to be (publicly) disappointed and the fan in that video asking if it was an April Fool's joke wasn't screaming, wasn't cursing, wasn't being disrespectful.

You say this, but the amount of money they make from these mobile games speaks otherwise. Don't find yourself lost in a bubble.

The gap between D2 and D3 was 12 years. We know they're working on D4. This game isn't even being made by Blizzard, so it's not taking anything away from D4. They're clearly committed to the series, they still put out regular season content for D3 and just released it on Switch. Blizzard games always take their sweet time.

This is not just taking pictures from random mobile games and comparing to games from console developers. These are from the exact same mobile developer that is making Diablo Immortal and there are plenty of gameplay videos of their other games.
The gameplay polish the will put in this game will be very similar to the other online action rpgs they developed.

The worst part is not only was this the closer to the opening ceremony, but it's outsourced to another company. It's telling your community you weren't even worth making it in house. People could be excited for a mobile spinoff if it looked like some effort was put into it. This is coming from someone that plays a lot of gacha games.

Outsorcing Diablo mobile to the company that was literally making Diablo clones for mobile.

I mean, any actual word on what the comments deleted were? Or even proof that they are being deleted?

If it's just criticism of the idea then yeah, that's dumb, but given it's capital G Gamers + the YouTube comments, it wouldn't surprise me if the comments that got deleted were worthy of it.

The like (or dislike, in this case) bar represents the dissatisfaction perfectly well though.

Yea no, I don't get it. Knowing how obnoxious gamers are, how dedicated blizzard fans can be and the extreme hatred exists for mobile gaming in hardcore community, why would you announce this game at this stage and follow it up with a live Q/A? They pretty much brought it upon themselves. I am not saying developers deserved to be treated this way but this is equivalent of giving a youtube comment section the mic at an arena.
