Well they should have based some of it on the games too. Literally millions of people was introduced to The Witcher from the game. Most of the fanfare came from the games not the books so you are going to get alot more of "thats not my triss" and "thats not yennefer" comments.Pretty sure her hair is brown or browner than red in the books.
I haven't even read all the books but I feel like some of y'all need to do a quick "book vs games" search before you criticize some of the Netflix decisions, considering they are explicitly not basing it on the games.
Good Lord I'd let him run me over
It is unless they change it because of the negative feedback from the fans.
Makeup and costume tests rarely are.
The biggest problem is the chin. If you cover that part, it's not horrible. I think it's just so different that the games that it's jarring.

They'll get some feedback that's for sure
Seemed like a confident tease so maybe it's closer to final thing?
They can hopefully do better
Well...it's not. That doesn't mean they won't borrow anything from the games (in fact, I'm sure they will, because they know that's where the fanbase is coming from).Well they should have based some of it on the games too. Yeah, usually for these things they're confident that this is what they want so they show it off to the fans. They'll get some feedback that's for sure

It's Chestnut in the books. Hopefully they at least dye it that wayPretty sure her hair is brown or browner than red in the books.

Geralt not having a beard is a part of his character and personality. Racial makeup isn't (at least not for those other characters.)With the risk of getting myself into hot water I want to address the posters who keep telling pro-beard people that "Geralt didn't have one in the books, read the books you gamer plebs". The showrunners are clearly not going for total accuracy with the adaptation if we consider who they have cast as Triss, Yennefer and Fringilla (yes, I'm here referring to the actresses' racial backgrounds). So I think it's perfectly fine for folks to go "Cavill would probably look more convincing with a beard/facial hair". That's all I'm saying.

Showrunners: We're adapting the books
Gamers: Sounds good it'll be just like the witcher 3
Showrunners: This is most definitely an adaptation of the book series
Gamers:Sounds good check out this photoshop of Henry Cavill as Witcher 3 Geralt
Showrunners: Here's the cast
Gamere: Hey, this doesn't look like the Witcher at all what gives?
Showrunners: Here's a makeup test

Pretty much.
Also, no one played The Witcher 1 or The Witcher 2. Heathens.
People, he's not starting out with a beard. He might grow one in Ryker style, but this is a "younger" Geralt, not famous, seasoned Geralt.

It's a bad wig. I really feel like he's got a good look for the role, yes he could with a beard, but I think the biggest thing is the hair just looks really unnatural.
The length isn't helping either, but something about the way it's cut for him makes it just look like somebody flopped a pair of drapes on his head.
*Holds up his copy of Witcher and CE of The Witcher 2 for PC*
Even going by the books, of which I have this still looks pitiful. Beard or no beard.
My only gripes are the hair and eyes. Both of which can be easily fixed. The hair looks cheap, but it's just a first costume test so I expect it to look better. And, he needs those yellow cat eye contacts. Make-up and lighting will make everything look fine.
These are the same posters that laughed and made a big stink regarding DC's Titans costume design, then lo' and behold when you see the final product with the proper lighting, color grading, and makeup it looks completely fine. The internet loves shitting on stuff.
