All this talk about how a split is, or should be, between PS4 and Xbox One only makes me think it's been a while since we don't have any clue about what's happening hardware wise in the UK. Where is the savior that's going to leak some LTD number for hardware one of these days ?

Nobody ever said that lol. The install base was 57-43 this march. Some of are just curious why most Xb1 games shares are in the low 30's or even 20's
Anecdotal but most of the Xbox only people i knew really really REALLY love to only play multiplayer games (and multiplayer games only). I can't speak for all of course...just purely from anecdotal observations.

Well. That can be a factor too. PS4 pretty much became THE console for high budget single player games. Still even with really low shares for XB1 all year I expected RDR2 to be higher than 32%.

So can we assume from this that the PS4 centric marketing for Red Dead Redemption 2 did its job? That split is unexpected. Either thar or the Xbox consumer base aren't as into single player games, or buy more digital (though that still wouldn't necessarily explain the split).

It's a bit annoying. We've had no new milestones reported and nothing, say from any bump from spidey for example. I think all we may be able to hope anytime soon is from BF sales which we usually get.

Last time we heard about that, the ratio was 57:43.

Out of around 9 million PS4, which mean PS4 ws over 5.1 million and XB1 under 3.9 million.
Figures are from March

yes...obviously. So is game *insert game title* on the most expensive machine that game *insert game title* is on. Why wouldn't it when it's running on the most expensive & highend machine?
Someone has a real issue with Sony's PlayStation not being the most powerful console anymore don't they ?

Because some people are under the delusion that mainstream audiences religiously check Digital Foundry before they buy a 3rd party title.

Even if that were true, are we not forgetting that XB1X is a small percentage of the total Xbox market?

Also the idea that Red dead has a higher digital share than FIFA is ridiculous. Arguing you dont have the full picture without digital numbers is one thing, but to argue that Red dead has somehow not only outsold FIFA but also made up more ground than FIFAs already softer launch with digital numbers is delusional.

Some people just arent going to pay £50+ a game here. Point blank period.

UK retail might really be hurting next year. Cus if prices go up any further due to brexit, we could be looking at a total collapse.

The X is the place to play it. But still the majority of console owners are on the PS4/XB1 - and if that is your choice then the PS4 is the one to get.

The hardcore who own the X are more likely to buy digitally.

I'd say for the X effect look at the X bundles driving FH4's improved chart position. Its a desirable console but still too expensive for many people.

Forza Horizon 4 doing great. As expected really. Probably will be in the charts for a long time again.

Yet the bundles was major drive in the 50% sales improvement in FH4.

That should tell you that the xbox one bundles didn't significantly move the needle. Only a 50% increase in what was likely Sub 10k for the previous week is 5000.
So perhaps max bundle sales of 10k if we allow that FH4 may have dropped 50% without the bundle sales.

My wits have been addled by this crazy hot Dubai sun, so don't crucify me if my math doesn't check out.

Really large split here. We can clearly see where the 'hardcore' players are =P
In all seriousness, let's go back to last weeks prediction game.

Wow. Think 50% bump for Forza with bundles. Those bundles also included Red Dead. And PS4 was still 68%.

So in my brain at least it makes me wonder had MS not had these bundles with red dead, would the split have been larger? I wonder what the split was just retail no bundles. Guess we will never know.

Sony had red dead bundles too, and they were supposedly flying off the shelves at 15 to one if you go by a poster on here, thanks to the marketing deal. Looks like that marketing deal paid off. I guessed it would be 70 / 30 in favour of PS4 so I think i did pretty well there.

So can we assume from this that the PS4 centric marketing for Red Dead Redemption 2 did its job? That split is unexpected. Either thar or the Xbox consumer base aren't as into single player games, or buy more digital (though that still wouldn't necessarily explain the split).

Why is the split unexpected? it had a marketing deal with Sony since it was unveiled and any news of a 4k xbox one x version was 24 hours before release thanks to sony's marketing deal and NDA, people will have pre ordered etc. It will be interesting to see how it fairs over the coming weeks on the lead up to xmas. Plus next year we will have digital numbers. I don't know one person who bought the game physically.

You'd think that wouldn't you, but not on here.

Almost every single Xbox thread I stumble upon these days makes some kind of reference to the Xbox One X, as if it is the world's best selling console or something.

And willing for January to 'come here faster' isn't going to abruptly swing the software ratio into a more favourable split. Those who are hoping for this will be sorely disappointed.

Looks like those Forza Motorsport 7 + Forza Horizon 4 + Red Dead Redemption 2 Xbox One X bundles (for £389) are doing quite nicely, given that Forza Horizon 4 has moved up two places this week!

I reckon both Forza Motorsport 7 and Forza Horizon 4 shall be lurking in the PAL charts until Crackdown 3 and/or Gears 5 are out. It certainly helps that it's the main Xbox One S/X bundle for the majority of the time.

Yup, seems inline with what most people thought. Sony showing that the money hats do pay off.

They don't. But certain members gotta act shocked and awed to make it seem like Sony's "victory" was even more impressive
Yeah, especially with the truth about this game. I genuinely feel this game has really hurt some people on this forum. Atleast they can feel the victory of sales numbers that were mostly paid for lol.

It would be interesting to see how much was sold digitally

No. They are simple surprised it sold more than double on PS4. It was clearly gonna do better on PS4, but the split is honestly worse than i expected.

No mention that FH4 is the highest charting exclusive this week? Written off as being "driven by X bundles". But that means X hardware is shifting in the UK.

Imagine RDR2 will have quite some legs with all the word of mouth.

And FH4 is doing great, even tho it has got quite a boost with those RDR2 bundles.

No mention that FH4 is the highest charting exclusive this week? Written off as being "driven by X bundles". But that means X hardware is shifting in the UK.

I'd bet more PS4 RDR2 bundles were sold than Xbox FH4 + RDR2 bundles.

How would you describe the marketing with Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed Oddssey, Battlefield V and Fallout 76 then?

Nobody is 'writing it off',

Forza Horizon 4 is doing very well, which is quite clear for everybody to see, and is helped by the generous bundles and including a 'free' copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 too.

Well said. It's no suprise that the PS4 version sold more. But a 68% split (retail-only) for such a huge game is.... well, huge.

Yep. Sony's strategy in picking the right games for their marketing deals is damn good these days. The results are huge. Microsoft's 'money hats' not so much, as can be seen with Tomb Raider's split (63/37 PS4/XBO).

Microsoft didn't have a shadow of the tomb raider marketing deal, did they? I haven't seen microsoft do any deals for exclusive content for ages.

I don't think it's hard to choose the next Rockstar game, and we don't know the reason for the deal.....I bet you can't wait for the Agent? ;)

Anyway, so good to see FH4 raising up the ranks. THis game will be huge for months and as word of mouth spreads about FH4 and the technically superior Red Dead 2 I would expect Xbox one X sales to stay strong through the holiday period.

The split for RDR2 isn't really surprising considering that Sony had exclusive marketing rights to that game. If anything, Xbone did quite well, all things considered.

Why was CoD split closer then? And why don't games with MS marketing don't do much better on Xbox? This is an unusual split even with MS doing unofficial bundles for RDR.

Sony did pick almost all the 'right' deals...COD, Destiny, RDR2, all fighting games...star wars battlefront 2 could've been huge as well if not due to EA's self-fuckery.

It is easier when you are by far the leader. At least MS did the right things with the FIFA deal for the beginning of the generation. Kudos for them for Destiny deals or genius Rocket League PS plus move...

Its less about picking but they being approached first from these publishers....its not like MS wouldnt make deals happen for those titles if they had the chance.

i would say rocket league owed much to that PS+ deal than anyone else....not that it's not a good game but that PS+ deal literally makes rocket league the talk of the month due to how widespread the game becomes..
