Thank you GameXplain

Ediiit: This is a native console feature and all versions support this and there is no pause button. It's just quicker to leave and pick up on Switch version.

Edit: ^ That. This basically just going to the consoles home screen.

Double Edit: I don't even know anymore. Everything's a lie.

I don't like it.

Though, I guess this is a concession for the Switch's on--the-go nature.

Dark Souls is the game it is, because it is perfectly balanced in all of it's aspects. It doesn't need "pause" and I'm pretty sure you can circumvent around the lack of said feature on other platforms.

But it's basically useless. You don't need pause at all.

doesn't that make the game much less tense? i wouldn't like it at all. it's cool to have a game where you can't do that and you're forced to fight enemies/bosses with no escape.

Angola / Zaire border region.
This is no different than any other console. At the end he even shows that backing out to the home menu doesn't pause the game. Only when you sleep the console does it pause, which I'm pretty sure is the same for PS4 and probably Xbox.

If you put the PS4 to sleep while in gameplay, when you restart the console I'm sure you're kicked back to the main menu.

It works the same way on PS4.

If he was playing online, he'd be kicked to the Dark Souls title screen as soon as he came out of rest mode.

I dunno. Even if i had a pause button to quickly check an online guide, i still think smough and ornstein would have kicked my ass just as bad.

if you're playing online and you use the home button on ps4 it will log you out and take you back to the home screen. at least it did me every time.

Edit: NVM, I need to read.

Cool. I wonder if it can cause issues. Didn't Bloodborne get patched to kick you out of the game in sleep mode because it caused memory leaks if you kept using it for too long?

I guess you can basically do what most players do if they fall off. Exit before the Death screen comes up and reload to avoid the loss. Switch just makes it easier.

I love that this bothers people.

Have some people really not thought about the accessibility option this presents, or just the added convenience?

The real Dark Souls experience is to shit your pants instead of pausing the game and going to the toilet and they already ruined that by putting it on a portable console. Between this and making Blighttown playable the game as is has barely any resemblance to the perfection of the original we feeble minds were blessed by the glory of Miyazaki. Bamco and From just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't think it makes a difference at all. You can't do anything while the game is paused. If it paused the game while you messed with the menu, then yeah, it would be terrible for the game's balance.

Fucking awful. The no pause feature is staple of Souls. It's casual souls.

The only reason I hate the lack of pause is because I can't even take a dump or answer the phone while playing these games.

Unless you can access your inventory/change equipment while paused it really doesn't make the game easier or less "hardcore". Can't watch the video right now but I assume you still can't.

What if you need to go to the bathroom? What if someone is knocking on the door? What if someone is calling you? The whole point of the pause button is if you need to stop the game because something is happening in real life. There will always be a reason to pause.

Fromt the video, it looks like you wake it up and it says press buttons to wake up. Can you not quit a game from that menu instead of just booting back in?

HERESY!!!!111!11

I never did understand why so many people were against it for offline purposes. the whole "there's many places to restart" doesn't feel like an actual solution

I don't like it. For me at least, one of the fundamental gameplay elements with Soulsborne is that you can't pause the game.

Can't really avoid it on a mobile platform, if it changes the game, it changes the game.

This thread is gold LMAO, there's some brilliant satire in here.

Neat thing, might actually consider it now. It absolutely incensed me that I couldn't pause bloodborne to for example open a door for someone, and just had to hope no enemies happened to be nearby.
Well, not incensed, but I definitely didn't like it.
