I'm not asking you to solve my issue. I'm just voicing my opinion on the Switch.
Doesn't sound like your issue is with the Switch as much as your taste in games and limited funds. You dismiss indie games because they are indie and don't view them as being worth their asking price because of the means in which they were created.

It's not exactly hard to find the good games on the eshop... Just check Metacritic for reviews, loads of good games on the Switch.

How do you have an opinion that the Switch has nothing to play on when your personal circumstances doesn't allow you to purchase games at full price, and perhaps that may be the reason why? It sounds like you making money on the side will solve your problem more than anything Nintendo can do.

Why buy a portable console then? Honest question.

I didn't buy a portable console. I bought Nintendo's hybrid home console. It just so happens there hasn't been anything released that I've enjoyed since BotW. Indies I pick up on Xbox or PS4 and haven't been impressed with Nintendo's portathon approach.

All honesty, it was purchased as a review device, but lost interest shortly after launch.

Opposite situation for me. Too much stuff on it. But I do like indies a lot.

Becasue I'm a college student and can't be dropping $60 on every game that looks cool?
If you're only interested in the big games Nintendo puts out once in a generation (Smash, Pokemon), you probably should've waited until they were out before buying a Switch, especially if you're trying to cut down on unnecessary spending. That goes for every console, actually; you should only get it if there's a good amount of games you want to play on it. It's why I don't own an Xbox One, despite being bombarded by good deals for it.

If there were some really neat 3D style indie games I would be totally on board. My issue isn't with it being an indie but the large majority of indie games are retro style 2D games. Which I am not a huge fan of. I grew up with the PS2 so I have no nostalgia towards 2D games.

2018 has definitely been the Year of Sony so far. I turn my PS4 on almost every day right now, but I can't remember the last Switch game I played.

Just wait until next month though, OP. November and December are bringing the heavy-hitters with Pokemon and Smash. Leading into another jam-packed year for Nintendo in 2019, with Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, Yoshi...probably Metroid, and Bayonetta...

It's gon' be lit.

Like he's told you he's not into those style of games. I think it's time to move on.

He's said in the OP that he tried Hollow Knight so he did try.

Got mine in July. Barely played it these past couple months. Almost everything I want to play on the Switch, I'd rather play on PS4.

I should be getting a comfort grip for handheld mode soon. I think that'll boost my play time some.

You are wrong about the eShop OP. They added a featured section, use that and the best sellers list if you can't be bothered to look through the new releases yourself. Pretty much everything on either list is good.

Same situation as mine. I had to put it back on its box after I finished Mario Oddyssey and Breath of the Wild.

I have no reason to buy multiplatform games for the Switch, so at this point I'm just waiting for Metroid Prime 4 for my Switch to see the light of day again.

I bought Octopath Traveler despite me not liking old style turn based games and pixel art so of course I dropped it after a few hours. Same thing with Hollow Knight. I do not like 2D Metroidvania's so I had no love for Hollow Knight.

Why are you buying games that you know full well that you won't like?

I don't really enjoy indie games.

Why?

They're fine but I have so many from getting them for free on PS+ I don't feel the urge to spend $15 on some 8bit retro game.

Those games aren't free, you're still paying for them.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 looks amazing but I don't know if I want to spend $60 on it. It's hard to justify it when games drop in price so quickly on other consoles while Nintendo never budges on their price.

We already established that you're bad at spending money as you buy games that you know full well that you don't like and then surprise surprise end up not liking them.

There's no point in worrying about $60 purchase, especially when you stated that you're getting Pokémon despite stating that you don't like turn base RPG and guess what? Pokémon is a turn based RPG.

You might as well sell your switch, if you are not going to open your mind in what games to get.

You don't need to have nostalgia to appreciate Celeste. You are dismissing the game because of its look.

He's not into indie games nor do they want to pay full price for major releases. So what does that leave?

If you need to say ignore the main 3 strengths of something to criticize it maybe don't bother. (And actually the Switch is a lot of fun to play Bethesda ports on by the way)

Oh, I do have a Switch. I like the concept of it, but for me personally, my tastes and my gaming habits, it's a severely lacking platform in quite a few ways.

Bethesda games I'd rather just play on my PS4 (and by Bethesda games I mean Doom, The Evil Within and Wolfenstein, I don't really like anything else from them).

Your problem is going eshop only and not retail. You will find much more sales there.

Also, try some new IPs that you haven't tried before. Switch is loaded with tons of good games. Dead cells, golf story, stardew valley, yoku's island express, sonic mania, arms. Mario + rabbids too, one of my favorite strategy games recently

I'm willing to step outside my usual comfort zone if the game has been getting rave reviews. Everyone was talking about how good Octopath and Hollow Knight were so I was willing to spend the money. Especially when I was itching for games at that point.

For Era members there doesnt seem to be a state between collecting dust and holy shit how am I supposed to play all these games.

The fall season is here and assuming you have at least one other current system in addition to Switch you have enough to play.

If Switch is your only system and the lineup doesnt satisfy you ....sell it and buy another system instead.

It happens to me every time I early adopt a console yet I still do it. I hadn't played it in months after playing Mario. Been playing thimbleweed park on it recently though I regret not getting it on PC instead the controls are starting to wear thin on me.

Any amount of dust that may accrue will be worth it once Animal Crossing drops. Fucking still playing New Leaf to this day... and that game lasted me across 3 3DS's... so...

Yeah the eShop isn't great for just browsing and finding something to play. Sounds like you need to research before you buy. Maybe read reviews or watch gameplay videos. You mebtmenti multiple instances of buying games and not liking them, but there are ways to avoid that.

That just sounds like an excuse to complain about buying something you actually knew you wouldn't use the main feature for, though, and wondering why it doesn't appeal to you after. You knew it was portable going in and that it was the focus.

He said he was buying Pokemon let's go and Smash. They would be full price.

A lot of people aren't into Indie games. They're mostly of a certain style that a lot of gamers can't get into.

I've enjoyed Indie games here and there for Switch but I too have had my fill with the vast majority of them. I enjoyed Undertale recently but I'm looking for the next big release. At the moment though I'm awaiting Red Dead 2.

Not to say that your shop critiques don't matter, but I've never used a digital shop to "find games." I use places like Era for that. I've never really entered a digital marketplace without already knowing what I'm there to buy.

Millions of people don't frequent places like this, so the shops should be way better for sure, but it's always curious to me when I see people vexed by it on places like Era, aren't we all that niche super-nerd audience that hears about new games thanks to the community?

Anyway I just played 250hrs of Hyrule Warriors and 35 of Hollow Knight but I do still have to wipe dust off the thing from time to time, dust really is the worst.

The Switch isn't all that great for a lot of people if you take out the portability aspect.

Precisely.

I've got other non-Switch systems that are collecting dust and you don't see me making a thread. I use the thing because it's convenient. I'm traveling now, and even when I'm not I like the option of playing from bed or knowing I can take anything with me easily.

Perhaps give Mario + Rabbids a try. Xenoblade is also good if you are into that kind of game and it's not entirely turn based like Octopath.

Since beating Zelda and Mario mine has collected dust too. Was gonna get Octopath but didn't like the fragmented storylines and it just doesn't seem like an epic jrpg like DQ11.

No interest in smash bros never have been don't see the hype in a beat em up. Dunno why people are excited for this series...it's just a beat em up like Tekken and Street Fighter? Gonna be dull as hell in single player. No thanks.played the one on Wii, nice music but got bored after 15 min. Seemed like a multiplayer game which I'm not into.

Apart from Metroid Prime there's nothing on it I want for the future? The fact there's no achievements on it it really bites and the main reason I don't buy anymore Switch only exclusive games. The indie games I can just play on PS4 they look better and have trophies. Like I bought Valkyria Chronicles 4 on PS4 since it's gonna look a lot better and have trophies. Also why would I wanna play KH3 on Switch when it'll be so gimped like that lame Pocket Edition FFXV? It feels like Switch owners take scraps of games sometimes like they eat up games that are a shadow of their former self because they can't get anything as good because of the hardware. FFXV Pocket Edition is a prime example. I'd take PS4 any day over these versions. Don't care about portability I like proper controllers and a big screen and no leads with headphones etc. Everything is overpriced on the shop too. No good sales.

It's an ok console for on the move but underwhelming otherwise. There's nothing I want on it for the past year or so.
