WTF you can't play this offline by default? Can anyone confirm if, after agreeing to the initial privacy blah blah and signing into Google play, I can play this offline? About to get on a plane and want to play a bit.
I just checked this myself, and there seems to be a license check when you launch the app which fails if I have airplane mode turned on.Can anyone confirm if, after agreeing to the initial privacy blah blah and signing into Google play, I can play this offline? The check only seems to work at launch though, so if you launch the game while you still have data, leave the app open, and then turn on airplane mode, it didn't seem to check again and allowed me to load my save.
You only needed to agree to policies once and you don't even need to sign in to save progress though. This just seems to have an online requirement for no reason.I don't really know, that's why I'm asking. You may be able to, but with most games in order to agree to the various policies or sign into your Google Play account to save progress, you obviously need a connection .
$20 is pretty steep for a game that will probably not even run stable on my phone (Galaxy S7). Might actually pick up the 3ds version now that I know this exists, though...
edit - wow, okay, this game goes for more than MH4U on the 3ds for some reason. Was there a limited run or something?
You can pick an old phone out of the closet tooHere's the main reason I don't like "premium" pricing in mobile games: abandonware.
I've had too many games that two or three years down the road, new iOS version rolls around, and dev just decides they don't want to update the game and it no longer plays. But because of the nature of iOS and how we use phones, I don't really have the option to roll back. Whereas with an old console, I can just pick it up out of my closet and start playing again. Or easily find a used one for cheap, generally.
OTOH I bet MHS looks great on my phone. :/
Yeah, it is pretty lazy. I'm pretty sure it's not the first time I've seen something like that though. I remember other Japanese games still having error messages in Japanese despite it being in english.
Thanks!Take a look at post #139. That might help a little bit, I too was confused with some of the battle system.
Great explanation, thanks! The app seems to close down based on time because I had it happen after just not doing anything for a while.
The attack types don't do anything normally, but if the enemy is targeting you or your monster with a typed attack, responding with a typed attack of your own will trigger a head-to-head (you'll see a line between you or your monster and the enemy if this will happen). Winning head-to-heads makes you take reduced damage from the enemy's attack and also gain kinship points to fill up the ride meter and use for special skills. Winning three head-to-heads in a row will knock the enemy down and give you a free turn. If you win a head-to-head where both you and your monster did the same winning attack against an enemy, you'll team up for a double attack that does crazy damage. Which attack is preferable at the moment depends on the monster's AI.
In addition, the weapon types have built in combos where doing specific sequences of attacks makes the final hit do significantly more damage. This isn't stated anywhere among the copious tutorials because fuck if I know.
Greatsword: power-power-technical, technical-technical-speed, speed-speed-power
Sword and shield: speed-speed-speed, speed-power-technical, speed-technical-power
Hammer: power-power-power, power-speed-technical, power-technical-speed
Hunting horns have their own melodies instead of combos.
Power doesn't actually do more damage. The attack types only matter for head to heads or for doing combos. If it looks like your monster is going to win a head to head, the best thing would be to join in with an attack of the same type to trigger a double attack.I don't understand. How do I know if a monster will go head to head with me or my monster? The line always points at my monster. So I guess if my opponent focused on my monster, then I can just use power for most damage.
