Seriously I don't even care about the platform does no one else think this just isn't a very good collection?

At LEAST include castlevania 3 if doing a collection the same day as the netflix show is the only objective. That's literally the game this show is adapting.
While I get the frustration, I think we need to address more the fact that Rondo is now coming west and the franchise is receiving a boost, while Smash is big and one of the big surprises are the Castle reps, there are people who don't actually care about Smash and being in smash doesn't really means to have a game for the switch coming

I would love to play those on bed, (you can, using streaming) but is good news, even if doesn't release on every platform !
Just trying to be a bit positive !

Puzzling decision, but hey they're getting re-released right? I hope many many new people will finally experience the majesty that is Rondo of Blood.

Seriously I don't even care about the platform does no one else think this just isn't a very good collection?
It's probably just the first and when they're all released they'll make an ultimate collection.

SOTN and Rondo are my some of my favourite games ever so I will get it. Day 0 if they add the Saturn content.

HooefuHop this leads to a rerelease of Castlevania Bloodlines.

So, I'm trying to come up with a reason how this release makes business sense for Konami:

  • Castlevania and Richter Belmont get free advertising in Smash Bros, a massive multi-million selling franchise. This is huge for Castlevania as it is basically dead and has always been niche despite a small, loyal fanbase. The exposure in Smash would certainly help grow and revive the franchise.
  • 2D and Metroidvania games sell a lot more on Switch. Thus, you make the this 'collection' of two games exclusive to a different platform.
  • This is releasing the same day as the new season of the Netflix series to promote it, but it doesn't include Castlevania III, which the series is based on. In fact, Trevor Belmont, the protagonist of the Netflix series, doesn't appear in the two games in the collection at all.
Konami continues to make no sense at all.

This is a seriously weak collection regardless of platforms.

I mean, look at what Capcom is doing.

It'd be one thing if we were dealing with M2 quality here, but I somehow doubt it.

no retail version = no buy, plus I'm sure this will cost at least 20€/$ (if not more)

If you guys want to discuss the choice of platforms: make another thread. There's nothing to stop that. Mods just don't want it happening in here.

On Topic: Guess I'm finally picking up SoTN. I've been given enough shit about never playing (although tbf, I've never been big on the Castlevania games).

No that's still portbegging...The game is announced exclusively for PS4 coming out on October 26. You can't discuss a "choice of platforms" the game is officially announced. This thread is a mess.

I love these games but I already have the PSP remake of Rondo and Symphony is on my X1X, so I don't know if I'll be picking this up. Maybe when it goes on sale I'll grab it to see what these new graphical features look like and what not, still, cool that it's getting the rerelease and here's hoping we get a proper Metroidvania collection at some point as well.

I have not played Rondo of Blood before and Symphony of the Night I have like 30 minutes total from Vita but I'm definitely going to play though these on PS4. I played Bloodstained earlier this year and absolutely loved it. If Rondo is a better version of Curse of the Moon, which I think some people are suggesting, then I'm even more stoked.

I'll wait the exclusivity out for a PC version later. It'll be an easy wait cuz it's not like there is any story spoilers if you've already played these, which I did on PSP.

Not gonna reward Konami with a double-dip. My desire to slap a ReShade on this and play with CRT effects+scanlines is too strong. Can't really do that on consoles.

Rondo is a seriously amazing game that was always a serious pain to play nowadays if you didn't have a PSP and didn't want to play the entirety of the awful Dracula X remake to unlock the original.

At least now people will understand who the heck was that guy at the beginning of SOTN.

PSP emulation could mean there's a functional emulator for the system on PS4. I doubt they'll do something with that, though it would represent bigger news than any particular game.

I would buy this on PS4 regardless but it joins Katamari Damacy Reroll, Sega Ages and The Last Remnant in the category of "why the hell is this retro re-release exclusive?".

These old games should be releasing on everything to maximise brand awareness. Indie studios manage to do multi-platform releases, so can massive Japanese publishers.

Ctrl+F "Switch" = 15 hits on the first page.

As usual it isn't enough to celebrate the release of 2 classic games, one of which wasn't released in the west originally. Everyone needs to wine about them not coming to a particular platform. I for one am thankful that Rondo of Blood gets to be played by millions of people who never got the chance. In my mind, it's the best Castlevania ever made.
Rondo of Blood's been released in the west like 3 times now.

More ridiculous than bomberman being exclusive. I assume it's gonna be the same and be 1 year exclusive.

What a cheap nasty fail.
  • Uses the PSP game art despite not including the PSP game.
  • Has the games listed and displayed in the incorrect order for both plot and release order.
  • Timed to release with the Netflix show but does not include the game the show is based on

Did people cry when MGS4 was a PS3 exclusive when Snake made an appearence in Smash around the same time?

It releases same day that Season 2 of the animated show. It's a fast port to get some money.
Then why not port it to PC? PC and Switch is the way to go here. I hope this "double dip" Switch culture isn't a thing that's taking off.
The salt is gonna be unreal with the PS4 exclusivity, what the hell Konami. Richter in Smash and this would make sense but Noooo, just one platform is fine.

It's going to poison the games release for sure. I understand the salt here though it's a very stupid business decision unless Sony gave them a truck load of money to keep it exclusive. Even still though.. this can't benefit them in the long run.

Like I stated in the previous thread, all signs pointed to a PSP/PS2 form of release via PSN much like other games in that vein. Looks like that's exactly what happened.

Stoked. Wonder if they'll come with any themes or avatars on the release. Might pick it up since SotN is hands down my favorite Castlevania.

Don't think it's very fair to blanket ban any discussion about how puzzling it is that it's an exclusive, especially when this directly ties not being on the same console as Smash Ultimate, where Richter Belmont is getting a starring role...

It's not "port begging" or even the usual "perfect for Switch" stuff. It's questioning a very silly business decision.

Smash doesn't dictate which game is released on which platform. That's the reality.

PS2 and PSP emulators exist for the PS4.

PS2 is no-brainer due to the fact that PS2_on_PS4 exist, and PSP emulator was discovered when Parappa the Rapper Remastered turns out to be some PSP emulation trickery that replaced the assets, but the running code is via emulation.

It's not being offered to consumers at a service level, of course.
