Why people asking MS to retweet again when there are only 14 ps2 classics and you still have to pay for the privilege? You can't just load your old discs in and play them.

That's all I needed to hear. Definitely resubbing the instant my current sub runs out.

Is the list in the first page comprehensive or has Sony only really added 12 PS2 games to PSNow after so many years?

Not all of their PS2 games are available via Now, but you're not too far off the mark. I think they're at 3 dozen or so PS2 games which is pretty abysmal considering how vast the ps2 library was.

dumb beginners question about PS Now

do you need a PS3 controller to play PS3 games? Cuz I've tried twice and nothing works with "press the start button".

That's really a bummer.
I was considering subbing reading the news, but if it's only 12 games what's the point ...
Thanks for the info though.

Really rad to hear. The list of games doesn't really appeal to me right now but I'll keep an eye on it. I do like that you can play multiplayer games online without PS+ (which I haven't subscribed to for a while).

So as someone just about to buy a (used) ps4, is it important / better to get the slim instead of the original? Or is functionality and reliability the same (in which case I will get to original to save a few bucks). And can you change the hd in both? Seems like in going to need bigger than 500gb if I get this service.

Streaming obviously costs a lot more but I wonder if they will be forced into a situation where they have to lower the service price due to games pass being half price

Both offer BC titles just now does it thru streaming. I could see $15 Down the line

Both are fine but slim will last longer due to less heat, being newer and the WiFi inside is improved if you got a 5G router

It's pretty simple - the Cell processor is faster than the Jaguar at a certain set of operations. The minimum requirement for a usable emulator is being able to execute instructions at least as fast as the original system (and then you need additional overhead for translation etc, although you may reduce this by recompilation as they do on the Xbox One BC), so it can not reasonably be done.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/...x-one-x-back-compat-how-does-it-actually-work

https://rpcs3.net/blog/

"It can not be reasonably done" is not something you can't really say with any authority. If you read the methods for both of these, you will find that it could be very viable to run ps3 on ps4 given that sony would have ALL the needed information, whereas these guys are going off documentation.

I also can't say they can, but I think it's way more feasible than people think.

Wonder if they'll finally bring this to Australia now (they did accidentally put the service up here a long time ago but then quickly got rid of it because it was most likely a accident) that we can actually use it with our slow internet speeds over here.

It's much more enticing to me now that they're downloadable.
Ugh, fuck's sake Sony. Not in Australia = fucked. Fucked!

It's not a good value for the games offered and monthly sub compared to gamepass. I'll see how this shapes up in the coming months and if they can put more recent games in there

Finally! Always loved the idea of streaming, but having a service like this is amazing. Now they just have to make it available everywhere, at least been able to download.

Also, they should change their policies around the online check and saves. Why not follow your own PS+ verification system and check when it expires? And you should be able to get your stream saves without having PS+. You are locking user saves behind a second paywall. That's shitty.

This is better for their bandwidth.

Why stream 1080p of ps2 game indefinitely when the game itself is only like 2 to 5 gb haha

Great addition ! Will take advantage of this!

Conversely, there are games that would take 50GB to download and play that would use only 10GB if you were to just stream the 10 hr campaign.

That's a pretty cool update. Hopefully they'll add more games. None of the games listed at the moment would make me a subscriber. Most of the decent games listed I feel like I already owned or played. And that PS2 list needs a boost.

Yeah, Sony should probably start adding some older PS4 exclusives like Driveclub, the inFamous games, LBP3, TLoU Remastered, the Uncharted games and more.

This needs to be repeated:
And remember, you do not need a PlayStation Plus membership for online multiplayer on PS Now – which stays the same for both streaming and downloaded games.

I see you Sony. If this was always like this, how in thee hell was it not advertised more???

Will be interesting to see if PS now subs and useage now increase, to the point where they see that maybe the streaming side of it isn't worth the costs.

... But everyone else is exploring streaming model and introducing something in the next year or two...
I know, but everyone else is doing cross play too, doesn't mean Sony want to or will.

If it's already profitable (an assumption) and they increase their number of paying users, how would that show that the streaming side isn't worth the costs?
It being profitable is a huge assumption. The costs of streaming games is much higher than letting people download games once. If people now abandon the streaming side of things and mainly download to play, it means they could get rid of all the dedicated streaming hardware and associated costs and not really lose anything.

Make a US/UK account?
I'm assuming they don't have any server support for it here in Australia, so you'd be streaming from the US servers with a minimum of 200ms ping. It would be horrible and unplayable.

Cross-play doesn't make them money directly. If anything, they fear it'll make them lose money. ( diminish the network/play-with-friend effect of their install base walled-garden )

A streaming service will, and have been making them money.

What Sony's been doing this gen - and what they have avoided doing, all can be traced back to basically them doing moves that they think will make them more money than simply copying what some competitors are doing.

Has PS Now been making them money? It cost them like 500 mil to buy Gaikai, an unknown iirc amount for onlives patents, and has high running costs compared to normal servers for game downloads, and from all I've seen it wouldn't have many subscribers.

Again they stream not only games but movies and shows under the PlayStation Banner with PlayStation Vue

And PlayStation Video, their video purchase/rental service. Also, the Gaikai tech is used in SharePlay, the feature where your PS4 is the console and the video of the game is sent to a friend's console, where they can control the action. I have not used it yet, but apparently it works decently (depending on the strength of both parties' internet). It allows local multiplayer games to be played online. I think Towerfall: Ascension is such an example.

Great news. The close they get to game pass the better.

Sadly, I doubt Sony would ever put new first party games on the service, but baby steps.

It's obviously better than before, but the library is lacking and the promotion of PS2 games is a little disingenuous given there are hardly any available for download.

Same here in NZ (though we have better internet than Aus lol). I'm sure one of their next moves will be expanding the service worldwide though, that and expanding the PS4 and PS2 Classics lineup should be the priority right now.

It doesn't make any sense for Sony to put their big blockbusters on PS Now because even the smaller ones like Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima will probably sell 5 million+, while the bigger ones (Spider-Man, GoW and TLOU2) will sell 10 million+.

But I don't see why they couldn't put their mid-tier games, like Everybody's Golf and Gravity Rush 2, on there. If anything I think PS Now would both help those games find an audience and help market them (because Sony sure as hell doesn't do it themselves).

Step in the right direction.

The catalogue needs to be improved on all fronts for it to interest me though.

Got to start somewhere I guess.
