Hell yeah, motherfucker.

My hope is that this gets watched enough to justify other entries showing up on
Netflix.

I watched Unicorn as a "Finale" to the Universal Century timeline of Gundam, so I don't know how it stands on its own personally, but I've heard both really positive and negative reactions to it from non-Gundam fans.

Either way, I find it to be quality mecha if nothing else. Give it a shot!

Oops, this is also available for Netflix UK and Netflix Canada. If a mod comes across this, could I get a title edit?

I really enjoyed Unicorn. The visuals and ost are top notch.

The Unicorn itself is such a cool MS too.

I wish they'd put The Origin on there. Still no way to watch Rise of the Red Comet in Canada.

Unicorn was a good show. I have some nitpicks with it but overall a great Gundam show to watch.

Is it fine to watch this with no prior Gundam experience? Because 7 episodes seems appealing.

Best-animated mecha fights in the franchise. Best mooks in the franchise, too. The entire show is a bunch of awesome fanservice.

Kshatriya and Sinanju are two of the cleanest mobile suits ever designed.

Shoutout to the JEGAN pilot and Byarlant pilots too

I watched the first two episodes years ago... the release schedule for the OVA was awful. I need to sit down sometime and watch it all.

That said, there is also a TV series too right? Which is the better option? Or was it just the OVA chopped into TV episode sizes?

On a scale from G Gundam/Wing(Good) to Seed/SD(Bad) where does this land?

The OVA, from what I saw, was really good... But a lot of that had to do with the fact that it was basically a love letter to the UC (main) timeline, and you're asking to compare it to one of various off-shoots. If you never, or only rarely watched any of the UC (Original, Zeta, ZZ, 0079, etc) your enjoyment may be hampered a bit.

Now more people can witness the glory of the sleeved Zeon mobile suits. Some of the finest designs in mecha history.

I loved Wing and G, but hated this. Watched the TV series version on Toonami (not liked at all by the rest of ToonamiERA, either), pretty much the same content as the OVA broken up into more episodes. The music and art direction are among the few things about it that I did like. Coming off of season one of Iron Blooded Orphans to watching this only made it worse, couldn't stand going from a lead like Mikazuki to the likes of Banagher.

Full disclosure, I'm not much of a fan of UC timeline Gundam to begin with.

UC really is a completely different beast from nearly all of the spinoffs. While over the top, UC tends to be a more earnest attempt at political and military intrigue and less about a single, or small group of god pilots/machines mowing down a constant stream of fodder.

Nothing wrong with preferring one to the other. It's kind of like comparing Game of Thrones to the Avengers. They are both great, but they do have different target audiences that don't necessarily overlap. Yes yes, over generalized but hopefully that makes sense to any outsiders looking in.

Nice. Unicorn has some of the best animation in the series and now more people can see it.

Throw Thunderbolt on there for more UC goodness and we can make this a party.

I don't think I watched all of Unicorn, but the music and visuals were really good.

I hope this leads to more Gundam on Netflix. I know Hulu has a bunch, but their selection of series is very scattershot.

There are like two instances of animation in the tv show looking ever so slightly "better", but yeah, its just the OVA chopped up. Avoid unless you like 3 minutes of recap each episode and the opening song.

I need to watch it. I watched the first three episodes, but quit when they started going a year between each episode. I never did finish it. I tried to watch the TV version on Toonami, but it was too late and edited horribly. I hope they get NT on Netflix eventually and it doesn't take so long to release all the episodes.

Can I watch this without knowing much about Gundam? Or is some basic knowledge required?

You can try, but it really needs at least a basic knowledge of the Universal Century lore. Back when the TV version was on Toonami, there were a lot of people lost in each episode. You really need to know at least the basics of the One Year War. It didn't help either than the TV version was totally butchered.

Hmm, sounds like we have similar tastes. Enjoyed Wing and G, and the artstyle of this is something I liked from the trailer as it's simialr to older anime. I'll probably give an ep or two a shot.

Thank you Bandai for releasing the show so people other than the obscenely wealthy (or pirates) could watch it, it only took....for-fucking-ever.

Cool.

I think I only watched the first episode or two because their release was so spread out and not really advertised.

Like how deep does it go? I've seen OG, Zeta, 8th MS Team, Igloo to completion. Do they pull from literally everything UC?

Oh, you'll be just fine if you've seen OG (and Zeta helps) and generally understand the OYW. Someone who hasn't seen any might be thrown off by the technobabble (mobile suits, mobile armor, newtypes, etc), the returning characters who won't register, or the general conflict and politics that this is the culmination of. You probably also want to watch Char's Counterattack or this might spoil some things

Besides it being on Netlfix, Rightstuf released a complete collection on Blu-Ray and DVD back in the Spring. It's $38 on Amazon right now. It's all seven episodes in one set.

Man, hope Netflix can get Thunderbolt. At least people watching Unicorn can experience some peak Sawano.

ZZ Gundam and Char's Counterattack are very relevant, though ZZ is more for smaller details.

There is also a minor location callback to Stardust Memory that obviously isn't as cool if you don't recognize it.

Thanks. I'll look into watching Char's Counterattack at least before watching Unicorn.
