Inklings are a species not a character, but id like to know why you believe theyre bigger. They made more sense to include in the most recent smash bros maybe.
Sakurai never said the ballot would be the end all be all this time, just that he consulted it in choosing characters. The people desperate for newcomers onto whom they can project "the ballot not mattering" give away that the continual angsty posts are less about distaste over the specific high-performing characters who got in but concern that they no longer can reliably be smug to all the "hardcore nerds" counting on them being disappointed in the end.
Everytime I see this I'm still astounded by it, such an amazing idea. Really freakin cool.
Isabelle is for me the definition of a great addition.

Add that she's adorable and like Villager will have a funky moveset and I'm in. Would rather have her than the Belmonts or Goku or whoever tf else.

Because Splatoon is arguably just as big as Animal Crossing now (it is well on its way to 11+ million copies sold), and they are the main characters (species?) of the game, and easily recognizable with heavy promotion.
I think Isabelle has had great representation outside of Animal Crossing (along with Inklings in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe), but not as much as the Inklings have, which have been a huge part of almost every single Nintendo Direct, E3, etc since 2015, thanks to the updates that Splatoon keeps getting and the two (three with Octo Expansion) major releases in 3 years.
I honestly don't care how "big" or "small" a character is. Villager 2: Furlectric Boogaloo is not worth my time or my excitement. I didn't even like playing as the original Villager in Smash 4.
At least Richter and Simon add something we didn't already have to Smash Bros.
I love it. Animal Crossing can use more representation, and I actually like Isabelle. I welcome her arrival with open arms.

Jumped the gun on my part and assumed people had a problem with Isabelle because people always have a problem usually with smash picks.

There's a segment of Smash fans who are definitely salty over this reveal.
It was odd at first, as she seemed like a typical semi clone. But it seems Isabelle actually has a lot more unique moves than I initially thought. Moreso than Lucas to Ness, Luigi to Mario, etc.

Yeah, this is why this Smash cycle has been pretty lame, yeah we got K. Rool and Rdiley but they should have been added ages ago.
Richter and Simon bring a boat load of amazing content and a legacy of amazing music.
Then these other characters are very low hanging fruit. It just feels a bit sad because its like I can almost feel and hear the barrel being scraped raw with some of these reveals, a ton of these characters that are semi-clonish, echo or whatever the hell you want to call them are the kinds you'd find in those google image fanworks.
I didn't want her beforehand but I'm happy she's in now because her moveset looks really fun and she's animated so cutely.

Some of you are overreacting big time lol. She brings something fun and different (YES, she IS very different) and adds wanted representation from one of Nintendo's biggest franchise that appeals to a different demographic.

Its a good add a cute female like character is always a nice addition better than yet another fire emblem rep with blue or red hair and being a marth or roy lookalike lol.

If anything the fact that era complains shows that it was a good decision
Given that Smash fans spent hundreds of pages talking about something that, at the time, didn't even EXIST, should tell us that a low thread count is good for Isabelle.
I'm maining her. Hope that she is top tier, or upper mid at worst.

Yeah it was about time animal crossing got a new rep its one of nintendo's biggest juggernaut ip's. Now hoping for octoling echos for splatoon those guys n gals have been surpressed for way too long.
