With the success of Spiderman and playing Lego Harry Potter recently (probably the best one) I just started pondering.

Who do you think could successfully take everything from the books and make it mouth watering satisfying for fans? My wife loves HP and felt the recent mobile game was a huge let down. I felt so bad because it's been her thing as a child; a world she completely loves.

Anyway, going back to the questions:

Which dev?
Also what kind of system? Should it be an MMO? Or an RPG with RT action and PVP elements?
Should it follow the illustrated art style or the one set by movies or something completely unique?

Personally, think it should be an RPG like Skyrim (probably not First Person), for single player purposes and also have some MMO elements if you want to go on an adventure with some friends. Otherwise, I fully expect people to waste away their lives in another world forever, especially if VR.

I'm actually curious about people's opinions.

From what I can tell, the Persona series by Atlus would make a decent template for a Harry Potter game. A daily life structure, tackling school life with a supernatural one, building relationships, etc.

Triple-A JRPG in the style of Persona.

This has been my answer since forever.

Came in to post something stupid..

I want a Persona style Harry Potter game now

Nintendo

It was almost theirs, dammit

But yes, Atlus would be fine. Those Gameboy Color FF clones were damn good.

I think Rockstar could nail it if they went to it like they did with Bully. But obviously it's never going to happen.

+1 to AAA Persona clone by the Persona team.

The persona games already follow the Harry Potter formula:

->go to school
->socialize
->fight the dark lord and snoop around at night

The GBC games are pretty good but a combat-heavy turn-based RPG is the exact opposite of what I want from a Harry Potter game. A big appeal of magic in the Potterverse, to me, is the unpredictability and mysteriousness of magic, which would be completely lost in a system like that. I think Arkane, based on their work with Dishonored and Prey, could make an amazing immersive sim that would take these things into account.

you know what, I nominate Sega to make Harry Potter game in the style of Yakuza games, just add some character relationship meter like SLinks in it.

I didn't play much of it, but I think a Harry Potter in the structure of Bully by Rockstar might be the greatest idea ever.

I had so much fun playing the first Harry Potter game on handheld and that was an rpg (much more fun than I had with the pc version of chamber of secrets). I have a lot of fond memories playing it.

I think I still have the GBC game from the chamber of secrets, and man, I played it sooooo many times.

People saying in the style of Persona...
I'd have more of the school aspect than just answer a question each day tbh.

It'll never happen.

If they made it now, it'd be worse for it since it'd be the American school to promote the new movies or whatever.

It's too late. They could've easily made a big open world RPG set in the sprawling school and the outer grounds with Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, as other areas. Spellcasting could've been cool and creative. Apparation is literally fast travel canonized into a game. Mini-games are literally baked into the literature. And its all wrapped up in a very charming British setting which would have been super fun and pleasant to play a Persona inspired RPG in with tons of social interaction with other students etc.

Could've even gone the MMO route and made a huge social MMO. The game is literally chock full of gaming tropes and instead they decided the best use of developers would be shitty action game movie tie-ins which were low effort past the second game. At least the GB games were cool.

If you're in Hogwarts that means you're stuck in the school for the whole day and night and so it would be balanced around that. The system can easily be tweaked to have more than one class a day for example.

I know people are gonna come in and say that Avalanche is already making a HP RPG, but I still think Rocksteady with their attention to detail would be the best possible dev team for this.

Never played Persona but based on what I know of the series they definitely seem like the best fit. Outside of that I'd say maybe the team who makes the Yakuza games. Open world except it's Hogwarts. They know how to write wacky characters, good sidequests and still convey a dramatic story. The best part of Harry Potter is it's world and characters and they would do a good job with that.

Yeah of course, visiting the school would be half the fun in such a game after all.

Persona would just be the template for the gameplay loop.

Yeah outside of that, socializing with fellow classmates and having a full school-year would be absolutely perfect for sure.
It fits so well I really wonder why on earth nobody is doing it.

Naughtydog/Remedy for sure. High budget, semi linear game would be awesome.

I'm with everyone, it should be a story-driven RPG inspired by Persona series. This game should be also without microtransactions bullshilt unlike the recent mobile game.

I'd want more Bully than Persona. Magical school simulator with plenty of room for after hours shenanigans, with the freedom to spend your time and develop as you want.

More emphasis on the classes than either Persona or Bully.

So Rockstar I guess?
