So I assume the game is not super linear the whole way through?

I just got the two sisters in my party and so far it has been super linear.

The little cabana area in Puerto Valor absolutely tanks the framerate on PS4 Pro. I think it's all the torches

how come only sometimes my equipment appears on my character? is it because the story requires my default outfit currently?

also can i use my forge in towns or only at camp sites?

Is there anything you can do to force it to rain? I've got a sidequest where I need to beat an enemy that only comes out during rainy weather and i've ran around for awhile in that area and it just doesn't rain. The weather cow near the area says that it'll rain the day after tomorrow, but going to sleep at camp doesn't seem to actually force the day to change.

No. The day after tomorrow means you should sleep twice, did you do it? And note that , if your current in-game time has passed 12:00 (you can watch in-game time by open map menu), then it will still be the same day after your sleep , which make sense. In this case you need to sleep three times in a row.

Does forging level up from crafting any items, or do only new items give exp?

I just got to Gallopolis or whatever and found a book that was mostly worn away and it said my skill wasn't high enough to understand it, do I need to keep forging stuff to level up enough to understand it?

As others has mentioned, the forging level is only dependent to hero's level.
The worn book is related to a late side-quest. Not main plot.

Man, love the painting of Erdrick but disappointed that they've renamed him Erdwin.

Quoting for a new page.

The game never said it was Edrick. His name first appeared in the beginning, when you speak to an NPC at balcony.

For 2, the answer is no unless they added it to the NA version or some shit.

Essentially it's right, but worthy mentioning that her adult figure will appear in the animation of a very useful skill.

So how exactly does forging work? I feel like it's dependent on RNG but I hope my dumbass is just ignoring some onscreen information or something. I have not been able to make many +3 items at all...

Forging is about temperature control and wise-use of forge skills. Every 100 degree give your bash 1 more point on average.
Critical hit will double the power, and never exceed the optimal level. Critical rate is tied to hero's level, so leveling up your hero is the most effective way to master forge.
One tip to exploit the critical bash is to make the gauge close to the optimal so that falls in the range that one bash is not enough but 2 will overdo. Let's say you make 7 gauges like this, then you'll have a very high rate to make several yellow bars.

Does anyone have
Veronica
using whips? Or would that be a waste. Pls character name spoilers I'm not very far

Veronica (using whip) actually has one of the best physical skills in the game. Its damage coefficient is 4.0, only second to a few two-turn based skills. However her magic is much better than her physicals, and she suffers from low strength. Unless you feed her a huge mount of strength seeds, her magic is better.

Hmm, if you're right about this, then only Greatswords can Parry? So it's buried deep in the 1H sword tree and is useless?

I think a parry is the same thing as a block, effectively. You just 'block' with the greatsword.

There's a separate skill that can trigger a counterattack after a parry. Dunno if one handed sword or shield has that since i've just been using greatswords.

Block and parry are different. This will become clear once you get a character that has skill to raise block rate only.
In JP ver. the wording is much clear, "weapon guard" or "shield guard"

Yep she's a party member.

And, believe it or not, that is actually a status effect, lol.

Yup. I saw a collection on youtube and the animation is just charismatic and amazing.

btw, there's a spoiler after Rab so just stop with him.

I noticed the battle system song is also used during horse races and boss battles. Square really wants us to fall asleep from monotony.

That has nothing to do with SE.

Opens up a lot later on; I was surprised by how much freedom you have.

Quite some posts in early pages said this game was very linear:/ Makes me feel itchy.

Noticing every little element pulled from X makes the fact I'll never play it hurt even more

EN ver. changed the sound effect of jumping which was taken from X. I'm very surprised, don't understand what the intention is.

And a doubt
The hero Erdwin is Erdrick from DQ3 right? I never played the 3 first games but I know a bit so I was wondering if it was him

No. But the name makes you think he has something to do with Erdrick. Actually EN ver. is more obvious than JP ver.

So there's no relationship with the past games except for a inspiration?

Played an hour and a half on my laptop for the first time today. Loving it so far! One of the nurses here (I'm stuck in the hospital for two more weeks) told me she played through it last year as well! I forgot how popular this series is in Japan.

I've met the silly old bear

...jester, Sylvando. He's kinda so so at first. But as the story goes on he becomes more interesting. His eye opener scene for me is when he is forcing prince jester to repeat the knight's code. It is so cool, he does know how to push people a little.

Btw prince jester kinda reminda me of someone.. maybe from a tv show or a movie?

Sylando and Erik get down.

Yo the scene
When Hendrik and MC defend The Last Bastion

That was better animation than many AAA animated movies and series.

I'm past 40h mark yesterday just done the "twist" loving it so far. The level of detail on monsters is mindblowing on pro/4k tv.
I hope it sells well I don't want to wait another 13years.

I noticed that in the PC version, Jade's normal attacks when you're close to the enemy look really bad, the animation is shown in a really low framerate. Is a known bug? I hope it gets fixed soon.

The worst thing about Dragon Quest XI is that I haven't had enough time to sit down and really put time into it yet :( I'm 5 hours in and they've been in short half hour - 40 minute bursts and every time I come away from it, it just makes me want to play it a whole lot more.

after getting burnt and dissapointed by ni no kuni 2 i'm reluctant to pull on this.. did anyone share similar sentiments about NNK2 but enjoy this one immensely
This game starts out much slower than Ni No Kuni 2. If you need an explosive introduction a la Final Fantasy, this game does not provide it. I haven't gone very far into the game, but for all I know this is a traditional RPG. If you were burned out by the repetitive kingdom management aspect of Ni No Kuni 2, this game will not have that issue.

Won the jackpot on the normal slots a cool 200,000 got all the rewards

If you have enough starting coins it's pretty much impossible to lose

Me, I have another problem. I really can't move forward until I equipped everyone with the best that is available at any given moment. Even if that means I need to purchase 10.000 gold worth of equipment for every single one of them, even those that I don't use, I just don't want to move on.

This has bit me in the arse a couple of times, when the game gave me a recipe for something good/better than the ones I just bought, or the game allows me to access locations where new equipment can be bought right after I purchased everything for everyone, effectively rendering that 10.000 gold basically just a wasted money, I-just-keep-doing-it, lol. I have the worst OCDs in my JRPGs.

The Casino items are among the bests in the game right? I guess it's worth getting them. I was wondering when all the slot machines will unlock later in the game and if they will require more coins for faster wins like I suppose

I got like 600k+ coins early in the game because I won the jackpot 3 times in the slot machine while metal time is activated.
I bought those platinum swords, spears and saved 200k to fund my addiction with the next casino (no idea when this will be accessed).

Depends on which casino.

The first casino weapons are basically midgame gear that you can craft easily. You can buy a better(or maybe slightly worse I forgot, but it's within 5attack power) sword and greatsword from a vendor if you explore a bit and you can get the recipe to craft the spear and the relevant items to do it by exploring a bit also, soon after the point you first reach the casino(basically right after you finish the mini story in Puerto Valor, which is super short). Mind you if you don't bother exploring a bunch, they will be quite powerful for a little while, but they're not anything crazy so unless you let the casino run with a turbo pad overnight/during work, there isn't much point to unlocking them.

The 2nd casino does have some better stuff that's actually useful even endgame/postgame though, but you don't get access to it for a while, and a lot of it is also just items from recipes that you can sometimes get at the same time/already have.

For some reason, there are a few animations that run at 30 FPS and aren't interpolated properly at 60. I think desperate attacks do too, as well as some of the ones from the lamp monsters.

I investigated the Steam forums, and it seems that both Jade and Rab have this problem. I noticed that some enemy attacks (only a few) show some 30 fps animations too. It shows how better the game looks at 60 fps, but I hope SE fixes this problem quickly because it looks awful.

Happy to see the casino is not as broken as other DQ game.... probably will be tempting on hard mode (because thing start to get pretty brutal...)

Just get to the part where you revisited Cobblestone.

:(

Can someone spoil me if the villagers is gone or if they are safe ?

Deep down, I think I already know the answer :(
