So well over half of the Japanese Switch userbase own Splatoon 2, and 1 in 5 Switch owners in Japan bought Zelda at retail? Pretty amazing.

Over a 50% attach rate for Splatoon is nuts.
Not sure if that includes digital either.

It's probably good news that a console is performing that well in japan. Hopefully devs can adapt for year 3 to be good

Who would've thought Zelda would be so high.

I'm expecting a Splatoon Spin-off. Has to happen eventually. What type of game? Who knows. Just seems like a smart thing to do.

5 million in 18 months.

I know the 3DS is a different market but how long did it take to reach 5 million in Japan?

I don't understand what Japan see in Splatoon. Of all the "shooters" they choose to love and try to make an "eSport" out of, they choose Splatoon.

Ugh.

Awesome job, at this rate they will surpass PS4 in their first 2 years lol

But 4 out of those 5 titles are from 2017, 2018 has been very lack luster

amazing result. they did a lot right with switch's hardware, and their support for it has been phenomenal so this is well deserved.

I mean you just said it. Those games are from 2017. They've had plenty of time to grow in sales. Smash and Pokémon will jump in there.

Congrats to Nintendo. Loved the Wii U and its library so it pained me to see it bomb. Glad to see them hitting back hard.

Excited for the future!

How big is smash in japan?

It is big :

Code:
[3DS] Super Smash Bros. for 3DS 987.239 / 2.703.101
[WII] Super Smash Bros. Brawl 816.198 / 2.315.401
[N64] Super Smash Bros. 183.097 / 1.632.046
[NGC] Super Smash Bros. Melee 357.101 / 1.349.418
[WIU] Super Smash Bros. for Wii U 244.747 / 789.947

and three of them were failed consoles in Japan.

That plus Pokemon plus Dragon Quest Builders plus Yokai Watch 4 (Winter 2018) should do the trick.

Are you nuts? Its a great game
Personally not my thing, and to be honest, of all 20 friend who I play Smash with and geek out over Nintendo with, we all have the same opinion on Splatoon.

Boring lame game that's fun but extremely basic and we wish Nintendo wouldn't focus so much on.

It's just weird to me seeing the love Splatoon gets online and in Japan when I literally never met anyone in real life who likes Nintendo that is actively excited with the franchise.

Splatoon is an absolute beast, knew it would be successful but I didn't expect it to be the best selling game on the system in Japan. Even more impressive considering the IP began on Wii U.

Will probably be at 6m by the end of November. 7m by the end of December. It will pass the PS4 LTD sales by the end of the fiscal year (March 2019) at the latest.

5 million in 18 months.

3DS was the fastest to 5m in Japan with 52 weeks. Switch is tied with PS2 with 79 weeks each.
