hey guys. i finally got the game. i have two question:

1. do i get the dlc or just start playing? i've bought too many games lately, so i'm a little over budget. i have some other games i had lined up to play, but i'm really excited to start xenoblade 2. do i just play now or wait for when i can get the expansion as well?
2. do i play with english or japanese voices (already downloaded them)? i prefer english but some people say they're bad and not synced to the cutscenes.

1. I'd start the game and play for a while before jumping in and buying the DLC. There's no harm in waiting, you might not like it yet!

XC2 is a wonderful game, but not everyone digs it - though I sincerely hope you find a lot to like.

2. I loved the dub, particularly as a Brit. But the lip sync is suspect at times, there's no denying it. I'm fine with that, but if it bothers you, you will notice it.

People like the Japanese voices though, so I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Any other questions, shoot.

The English Va is great. I enjoyed it.

Some people just hate English dubs no matter what, so they will say any English dub is bad.

You don't need the expansion initially. Go ahead and start playing. Buy it when you can.

lol, i've hyped myself so much for the game (it was also hard to find a physical copy where i live) that i didn't even consider the possibility that i may not like it, haha
i'll start it and see what happens, my concern was the quests that are added in the game (even early on) if you have the dlc, so i figured if i want to play the game once, might as well go for 100%.

As far as the dlc goes, you won't be able to access the arena until a certain point in the game. And the quests you can go back and do later. The base game has plenty of quests to keep you occupied for the time being.

so if i start the game now, then buy the expansion when i'm [for example] 50 hours in, i can just go back and do the stuff that the expansion added throughout the game?

I don't have the expansion myself yet (waiting for physical release) but this is how it has been explained/I understand it. The arena isn't accesibble until like chapter 4 or 5. And the quests you should be able to go back and pick up.

Oh yeah, definitely. If you finished the game at 70/80 hours and bought the season pass, all the quests and additions would be available to do on the same save.

As far as I'm aware, you can't miss anything that's added.

awesome, thanks. i was worried that those quests will only be there if you start the game when you have the expansion, which now that i think about it is pretty stupid...
i'll start the game tonight.

I'm 120 hours in, about to finish the game. The play session I started last night was so exciting that when I got to the boss of Chapter 9, the sun started coming up and I suddenly realized it was 6:00 AM! I had to force myself to turn off the console and sleep a bit, because I was pumped and wanted to keep playing it.

I'm not sure how long Chapter 10 is... if it's short, I might beat the game tonight. Since I can't get enough of this thing, I'll finally buy the DLC and start NG+. I still have 11 blades left to grab (I was trying to collect blades in a slow and methodical way as I played, I'll focus more heavily on the remaining blades in NG+).

2. I loved the dub, particularly as a Brit. But the lip sync is suspect at times, there's no denying it. I'm fine with that, but if it bothers you, you will notice it.

I'm a Brazilian and I love the brit dub (same goes for the XB1 dub). I'm a bit disappointed by Rex's VA, I think his voice lacks emotion, but the rest of the cast is pretty good (Pyra and Nia are just stellar). I'll probably play NG+ with Japanese voices for the sake of variety.

Yeah I finished the game in January and got the expansion pass a few months ago. There's no cutoff point for any content in the expansion pass so I'd recommend just trying out the game now and deciding whether you're interested in the DLC after playing the game for a decent amount of time.

I will warn you, though: The August patch added a glitch where finishing certain battles in Blade Quests with any move that isn't an auto-attack or a standard art can freeze the game. It's planned to be fixed in the September 14th update, but I'd suggest saving often.

huh, scary. does the freezing happen often?
I finished every quest before the August patch dropped so I can't speak from personal experience, but it sounds like it's guaranteed to freeze the game if you finish an affected quest battle with a special attack, a chain attack, or a blade combo.https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/...e-Chronicles-2-Version-1-5-2-Bug-1430479.html
We have received reports of a bug in the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Ver.1.5.2 update, which was distributed on August 24th, wherein quests that are cleared by defeating an enemy target can no longer be continued after the battle is over.

In quests with the clear condition of defeating an enemy target, if the final blow is a special move, chain attack, blade combo, etc., then the post-battle event will not play, and the quest can no longer be continued.

What To Do:
Use an auto-attack or a single-hit Art to defeat the target enemy.

Additional Information:
The above bug has been confirmed to occur in the following quests.

Quest List

  • Godfrey's Blade Quest [Flames of Justice]
  • Perceval's Blade Quest [Failure and Success]
  • Dagas's Blade Quest [Lost Kingdom]
  • Praxis's Blade Quest [Blade-Sharp Memory]
    • And related quest [Monster Quest 3]
  • Perun's Blade Quest [Eternal Spirit]
  • Adenine's Blade Quest [Limits of Awareness]
  • Zenobia's Blade Quest [A Real Challenge]
  • Floren's Blade Quest [Nature Boy]
    • And related quest [Beguiling Charms]
  • Herald's Blade Quest [The Calm and The Storm]
  • T-elos' Blade Quest [Lingering Resentment]
  • Quest [Mellica the Chorister]
  • Quest [The Riddle on the Wall]
We plan to fix this bug in the Version 2.0.0 update that will come with Torna - The Golden Country on September 14th. We apologise for the inconvenience until that time.

From what I gather, it's only the quests listed above - essentially, you'll be able to play the main story and the vast majority of side quests without issue.

It shouldn't impact progress too much, particularly for someone just starting out.

To add the dub discussion, I think this one in particular does one very neat thing: The inhabitants of each Titan have a different accent =)

I've started my NG+ and just reached the Challenge Mode. Gosh, it's such a joy to hear Shulk's voice again!

edit: will i be able to change the difficulty mid game?

I think Rex obviously has his weaker moments, but I think his general banter is pretty great. His screams improve... but yeah, they're never Shulk level.

I love the cast though - I think Skye Bennett did a wonderful job as Pyra/Mythra, while I love the pure hamminess of Zeke and Malos.

The main party is great across the board, if you ask me. Morag and Brighid compliment each other so well.

Giving each region a distinct British accent was also a really cool decision. I think it's that variety that elevates it above the original for me.

It's not just well-spoken southern English, you've got Welsh, Scottish and northern accents well represented too.

mazi - yes, you can change difficulty whenever you like.

She did a great job at making those two clearly different characters! I hope she finds a lot of work ahead of her, cuz she deserves it. Definitely one of the highlights of the game's dub.

great

edit: started the game and just wanted to say two things and go back to the game:
1. i love the way rex says "out"
2. i played so much of botw with rex's costume (it was the best one for swimming), it feels weird seeing it here

edit 2: played for an hour or so. my first impressions:
- the voice acting is good, i really like rex's voice actor and his accent.
- really enjoy the cutscenes, some good direction there.
- i enjoyed the first few side quests, i hope there are many varied side quests.
- the game looks bad, but i knew that. i only played handheld, and will play in handheld mode pretty much always. the IQ is bad, but i'll deal with it. i'll check docked mode tomorrow.

I just started Chapter 10 and woooooow,
they basically recreated the opening of Xenogears! Oh maaaaaaan! Hold me, XenoEra!

I previously said I don't like Rex's VA, but most of the time I like him. It's just that, in my opinion, he can't handle the more emotional moments very well.

Yeah, I also love the cutscenes, particularly those where there is combat going on. They're really good!

And yeah, the game looks bad. I very rarely complain about resolutions, aliasing, motion blur, I usually can't even notice those things, but the image quality in Xeno 2 is bad even by my low standards. Thankfully, the art style is great.

Inspired by Elma's release, I've finally gone back to try and S-Rank all the Rare blades. I honestly think Vess's requirements might be worse than Ursula's. It helped that getting Ursula early meant I could just keep her ticking over in the background while building trust, but Vess just required hours of running around collecting ingredients.

1. omg tiny gramps is so cute
2. i HATE HATE HATE pyra's design, which is such a shame cuz she seems like a very cool character and i'm intrigued by her.
3. the game is getting a little too complex for me. before i start to familiarize myself with some of the mechanics and systems it throws a bunch more at me. i'm sticking with it but it's a little overwhelming
4. i tried docked mode for a little bit this evening, and it looks SO much better. i can't understand where this massive difference between the modes is coming from, cuz i've never seen it in any of my other switch games.

You can like Pyra for her personality and her mind you know he is pretty damn cool

I second the Pyra thoughts. I love her character, hate her design. Lets be honest: those boobs get in her way
i know there's been enough talk about her design in like 50 threads on this forum already, but it never truly bothered me until i started playing myself and seeing her in the game (specially the cutscenes). her proportions and clothes are just so off-putting [for me], to the point that i would like pay 10$ to replace her character model.

Ha! I love Pyra as a character - yeah her outfit might be over the top, but it doesn't take away anything for me.

It's alright, everyone can get on the Mythra hate train in a couple of weeks. :P

She got an optional outfit added as an equipable aux-core, but it's locked as an early reward for Challenge Mode which is part of the expansion pass and Challenge Mode isn't accessible until the start of Chapter 4.

You have to unlock it, but it's really quite simple to do so. It takes up one of her aux core slots, but it's a good fit for her anyway, so if you want to cover her up, knock yourself out.

She'll also appear in that in cutscenes too.

You have to earn some currency in the Challenge Mode.

It's temporary in the story for the main game, but the June Challenge Mode update to the expansion pass made it an outfit that can be equipped permanently. I want to say it also shows up in every cutscene.

The only annoyance is that it's locked behind the expansion pass. I think it would have been fine if that particular outfit was available as part of the free updates.

cool. it's not really a big deal, and i don't want to make it seem like i'm some prude who's massively offended by her. i'm sure i'll get used to her design as i play, it's just my initial reaction.

Nah I'm not a fan of the design either and I've used the cloak outfit since Challenge Mode launched. I think Pyra's a well written character, but I do think her outfit design in particular undermines that writing.

I'm totally fine with people who criticize Pyra's design and yes, her boobs are kind of ridiculous.

That said, I'll be very honest: she's really pretty and a joy to look at ^_^

I've just beaten the game and I'm definitely starting New Game Plus tomorrow, but right now I'm going to buy the expansion. I just don't want this game to end, it's so freaking good. Monolith is just fantastic.

I managed to beat both Elma challenges in Easy mode (without customisation) after upgrading a bit Fiora, Shulk and Corvin's affinity charts, and man... Did it feel great! I was so nervous the whole time.

It's amazing to have Shulk, Fiora and Elma in the game. I love all three characters and their voice actors/actresses. I also loved the Nopon Sage lines regarding this epic encounter.

Maybe I'm just immature (there's no doubt about it), but I like the writing in general - particularly the Nopon.

I got plenty of giggles out of Nopon Archsage.

Can that stupid Honey au Lait for Fiora's Affinity Quest be done through Merc Missions? I've sent her on like 15 now and it hasn't unlocked Q_Q

Also Corvins stuff seems to have stopped unlocking on Merc Missions too. Can the "Collect x amount of x item" be done through Merc Missions?

As long as you've unlocked all the ??? criteria by doing his first green affinity node line, all of his other nodes outside the blade quest can be done through merc missions.

Damn I must be going nuts because I've sent him on like 20 of Ursula's Merc Missions and everything has just stopped unlocking/progressing for his Affinity Chart :-/

Yeah, I know that is
the event shown in XB1 all over again, but the way the scene is structured... it's a lot like the opening of XG, isn't it? For a moment, I thought the monitor would show "You shall be as gods". It's really cool!

I am in the level 9 boss and I was finally forced to learn to put together chain attacks. Man true Mythra makes fights pretty quick after you get at least one orb around the boss.

I've previously struggled to get different orbs around the enemies, but now my Mythra is somehow so powerful that she can follow her own L1 with a L2, the meter just fills that fast. So that opens up many more options. Is the meter filling dependent on the enemy, or some gear?
