Yeah, I gave it some time to mull it over before saying anything, but, the look of the game is really disappointing. And Sega isn't even making it. It's a confusing day of hype/anti-hype. But if it plays like SoR, I'm still in there.

Sorry, Sonic 2.

Sorry ALTTP.

I love you both dearly, but Streets of Rage 2 is still my game of the year in 1992. Best Genesis game of all time.

So fucking cool.

My only consern is that Axel looks a bit overdesigned. He's got a singlet, jacket, and then another jacket wrapped around his hips? It looks striped in the game, like a jail outfit?

Some time has passed too with Axel's beard. Wonder if Skate will return and be older?
Its a flanel not another jacket

Man what a bummer of a reveal. I'm fine with hand drawn aesthetics, but everything here just looks flat and static. Wonder Boy looked great so hopefully this is some early work.
Would be better if arcsystem were the one to animate this. But my personal opinion this doesnt seem that bad at least for now

Not the SMS or GG SoR 1 and 2. :)
Yeah I know. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that you were talking about the originals, rather than the 8 bit ports. Because why would anyone discuss the inferior versions when talking about scanlines, when the superior 16 bit versions look and play better...

This is cool and all, but if my man Max Thunder and his brutal Atomic Drop aren't in there... honestly not sure if I'd play it that much.

I want them to take their time crafting this game, but I am a bit worried that it could take a seriously long time to release. Perhaps they never announced any platforms because they anticipate these might be released after PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox are out?

Earth, 21st Century
My dream roster

Axel

Blaze

Older Skate (Mix between Adam and old school Skate)

New character (big guy like Max, or another woman)

Wish list: Have Adam and Max participate in the story, but as NPCs.

I ADORE Lizardcube's Giorgio Cavazzano-inspired artstyle on Wonderboy.
It's almost poetically beautiful.

...but man that doesn't fit SoR's look at all. Should have gone pixel-art, imo, but I admire and support taking risks.

I think something in the vein of what Whitehead&Co had done with Sonic Mania would have been perfect for SoR. Oh well.
Disappointed but still optimistic and excited by the announcement.

The art style is great. More frames of animation would be cool, but that's a nitpick (because more frames of animation is always cool)

Wow, SoR2 (and later, the unofficial SoR Remake) used to be my all-time favorite game to play by alone, but that was surpassed by a game I barely finished with 100% last night before this announcement popped up: God of War. Crazy coinky-dink.

I've been following Ben Fiquet's work ever since I saw the 'Pyrats' short he worked on during his time at Gobelins. Amazing Artist, it's awesome to see his style coming through here all the way. Guy's truly passionate about games :)

Of the things I expected to see waking up today, this was not one of them. I don't have a single issue with what I've seen, and if we can get a pure brawler (no leveling up/stat boosting) in the modern day that would be glorious. Blaze is love.

That beard looks so weird on Axel. Yeah, I'm going to echo people and hope they're considering a darker aesthetic. SoR is a different beast than Wonder Boy.

I think the art style is serviceable, variety of backgrounds is what I want more. SoR2 nailed this best, streets, ghoulish nightclubs, sanfran bridges and baseball fields. It needs the flair and some of the on the nose homages that SoR2 has like blanka and ultimate warrior.

The self serious tone seems to be there but the also need it side order of goofy.

I feel like these guys get it but I need to see more.

When he and everyone else says "dark" they mean they want a grittier aesthetic, not a literal palette adjustment.

Thing is, were the original games even that gritty? Yes, there were some grimy streets, but we also had beaches, a nice looking bar/restaurant, a brightly lit nightclub, a baseball field, a theme park, fancy offices, etc. Except for Mr X's thugs everywhere, most of the city seemed pretty lively and well maintained. A lot of what could be termed a grit just seemed to be a free inclusion with the low resolution of the graphics.

I love SoR2, one of my favourites of all time. I really hope this can live up.

I hope they keep the simplicity of the originals. No crazy combos, focus on crowd control and best move for moment selection.

I also want more playable character, one of them being Adam, who no one seems to realise the best character in the series.

Very mixed feelings. One of my favourite franchises ever, based on what I see here I expect something decent at best that should never have been called SoR 4 or one of the biggest disappointments in gaming history. Nothing about it makes sense to me, it's like mania never happened.

So little was shown of the gameplay to make many conclusions but just the fact that we're getting a sequel after 24 years has me excited. It doesnt matter to me if its a smaller group of studios making this, SEGA were never going make one so they might as well give it to someone who wants to! After Sonic Mania this is a trend I want to see more of.

For me SoR 4 was / is actually Street of Rage Remake....

Not in love with the art style, would prefer a Sonic Mania style 16 bit+ pixel style with particle effects or something.

Also only Blaze and Axel?... Blaze was always my Favourite but surely at least two more characters should be in it?

Mixed feeling on this one....

I am sure they have them. They might reveal them later on.

Zan and Shiva better be in it.

Wow it looks like the mock up concepts Mighty No 9 and Bloodstained had but as a reality.
Right?! The disappointment I see over it not getting a Sonic Mania treatment is... disappointing! Sonic (and Mega Man prior) have had long running histories to create the demand to go back to their classic iterations. This, as a continuation of a series that's been on hiatus for over two decades, looks superb.

I feel the same. This obsession with pixel art feels a little like people who claim to still be fans of bands they liked as kids, yet they want everything they produce to sound exactly the same as the stuff they listened to as kids, and complain when it doesn't.

We've seen a few screens and a couple of seconds of footage, and yet some people are condemning it based on it not looking exactly the same as games that are a quarter of a century old. I'm sorry but I don't see that as fair or reasonable.

Ah, that is the name I was looking for! The trailer really reminded me of Lastman, but I couldn't remember the name.
