Having seen and done everything in the game, I feel confident saying that inquistors are the shittiest enemy. Lost count of the number of times they hit me from off screen, have had a blast waiting for me, the second the screen scrolls, has hit me through a wall of the same color of the blast, had their attacks obscured by other on screen effects, etc.

I never took the sewer route unless I had to, but still, at least the level wasn't full of inquistors.
I think the game would be too easy without them, they push you out of cover essentially

I'm trying to get the Spider Rune and I had to pause the game after the Ancient Sewers in order to go to work.

The Ancient Sewers are a vast area but it's really not that difficult (I heard the next areas on the way to the Spider rune were really hard, though). The Ossuary and the Forgotten Sepulchre, on the other hand... fuck that shit

y'all weren't kidding about the shield, like wow, it feels like a game changer. I shortcut my roll to R2 and my parry to L3 and I feel like I have way more versatility. Maybe the the Hand of the King is doable for me now.

Beat the HOTK on my first try last night, almost on accident. Thank you, Crow Feather.

Fantastic game. I'm not sure I'll dedicate as much time to the higher difficulties, though.

You mean you play with the analogue stick? I wonder how many people do this compared with dpad. I don't think I could use analogue now I've used dpad for so long

Can't imagine how miserable a run must be with so many shit weapons unlocked :p
I wish shop rerolls weren't as insanely expensive.

I'm currently replaying the binding of isaac a lot and I think what dead cells is missing is stacking items. Because of the loadout system you can only keep 4 items (5 counting amulet) and all the rest is junk by default. I wish you could go a bit more crazy with upgrades over a run and not have to always choose between X and Y only. Let us go ham.

So a couple of weeks ago I said that I´d beaten HotK easily in first try and that I didn´t think he was hard at all. On ym next try, he killed me but I Almost beat him. Since then, he´s consistently kicked my ass time and time again...So I stand corrected.

But hear me out HotK, you will fall.

I don't know how you wouldn't play this game without the shield. The damage reduction on some of the shields - the Cudgel being my favorite for damage reduction and parry stuns - blocking, and parrying are just way too good to pass up.

I really dislike the shield since i have to wait to parry, i just want to dodge and slash. And if the timing is off for the enemies that are attacking you it just messes with my mind.

Sorry if it's been asked, but when the Daily Challenge message says "Next unlock after four Daily victories", do they mean completing four Daily Challenges in four days, or four of the same challenge in one day?

I think this just surpassed Celeste as my GOTY. I haven't been this addicted to a game since early days WoW. Just a run or two after work or playing on the weekend and seeing it's been 5 hours straight...game is excellent.

All depends on your other items/abilities. Some loadouts benefit a lot from shields, esp against some bosses, while for others, shield are not too good (imo.) Range and deployed items are often a better tactic, or even something like Phaser + Assassin's Knife can be much better action economy than taking the time to block or parry.

That said, when I find a nice shield, I tend to build around it because I like the way they play. Parrying does feel good.

True enough, ranged builds wouldn't get nearly as much utility as melee with a shield, and some other melee weapons wouldn't pair as well. I just really like being up front and center with enemies and I've just found the Shield just so damn good.

I've tried shield runs and I just can't get behind it. Maybe it's my play style, but getting hit and taking damage is just too risky in this game so my tactic is usually to spam my attacks (range, usually Wolf trap + one of those turrets) and finish off with bow and arrow or magic lightning (sorry I'm bad with names).

I can't even fathom a shield run, but then again I'm still early. About 5 hours of playtime and I've made it to the 2nd boss in the clock tower room.

You Ranged builders need to live more dangerously. Nothing is more thrilling then parrying an attack at the right time, stunning an enemy, and letting them have it. You can even parry/stun and just block/stun bosses. With damage reduction bombs/amulets and most shields having a 75%+ damage reduction rate when blocking, I barely take any damage if I time my blocks and parries right.

Also melee doesn't run out of arrows :p

I agree with you, and it IS more fun to me. That said, a legendary Endless Arrows bow with nice stats does sort of beg me to go ranged when I find one.

I played the game blind and got crushed by the HotK so many times. Reading two pages of this thread explained so much I got wrong. Went back as Brutality glass canon with Hayabusa Boots, Ice Crossbow and two grenades (Infantry&Fire) and DESTROYED him in record time. Thank you!

I can clear 4 cell runs and I definitely died in a 0 cell run the other day trying to shield. It doesn't click for me either and is an embarrassing effort, for the most part. So you're not alone.

Good. I love how there are so many playstyle approaches to this game. I'm growing quite fond of electric whip, it makes it really easy to kill flying enemies and the little leeches that come from corpses.

QUESTION -

If I have upgraded my, say, wolf trap II, then later in my run upgrade to a wolf trap VI, do I lose all the incremental updates I bought? Also, I'm confused how the yellow colour factors in to upgrades. Sometimes it shows as a brutal/weapon and other times it says updating survival/green will upgrade it. A little confused.

If you can hit the timed doors:
Promenade->Ossuary->Stilt Village->Sepulcher

If you don't plan on going for timed doors, just insert Prison Depths before Ossuary
This got me a really fun run last night! I powered through levels in that order super quickly and still ended up with ~30 upgrade scrolls, almost all of them centralized on Brutality. Then I got a legendary weapon after killing the first boss and just destroyed everything.

Definitely going to try this again!

Any other biome orders I can try in order to get remaining blueprints locked behind timed doors? Or is that about it?

is the hunters grenade one time usage
only? Or once per level?
One time usage. Luckily, if the enemy doesn't have a blueprint to obtain, you can use the grenade again.

I also advise reading https://deadcells.gamepedia.com/Mechanics to learn more about obscure nuances. For example, I didn't know having a shield in inventory causes a force field to appear for half a second every time you are damaged!

I'm at a point right now where I probably have something like 12-15 blueprints available to unlock at the vendor... Of the big upgrades at the top the only ones I have left I think are random shield (I never those), the third "keep money" one and the blueprint grenade. Other than that none of the weapons or mutators really interest me...

I'm not really getting any new Blueprints tho... So I kinda don't know where to spend my cells and I feel like my progression slowed down to a crawl.

It's a startlingly good game with a tremendous amount of depth and playstyles. I still haven't unlocked a ton of stuff.

To answer your questions, a wolf trap II is always a wolf trap II and can never be changed in that way. You can, however, upgrade once to a wolf trap II+. In doing so, it becomes more powerful, but will also reroll the perks in the process of the upgrade, so you're taking a chance upgrading a perfect perked item, although the power boost is usually worth it. You can do the same for a wolf trap II+, turning it into a wolf trap II++.

Some weapon types correspond to two different stat points. It will feed off whichever is the higher of the two for you. The two colors in the box with the item pic only demonstrate the balance of your stats. It doesn't matter which one you choose, but each weapon only keys off one stat. So let's say you have a broadsword, you can run a brutality or survival build because it's green and red. Whichever of the two is higher is the one your broadsword numbers will scale off of.

Just how bad is Switch performance? I'm traveling tomorrow and was considering grabbing this.

The game definitely loses frames when the screen gets cluttered (lots of effects, items, enemies, etc.) on screen, and I have noticed this very strange, I'm not sure what to call it, it's not a stutter, but it's almost like a lag spike for lack of a better term. My character will be doing the action I've pressed into the game, but the background/map takes like a quarter of a second to catch-up. However, these issues have never caused me to die and it happens infrequently and randomly.

Other than that though, the game runs great. I've put the majority of my time playing it on handheld.

If you're big on performance and demand frames, do not get this version. That being said, playing handheld is great and the devs have already come out and stated they're working on a performance patch.

Switch version is... fine. It's all I've really played and even though I've gone back to the PC one every so often, while there's a big difference it's not so big it takes away from the Switch's biggest benefit: portability.

YES! I did it! I beat HotK. And I didn't need to save scum. I haven't felt this good for beating a game since Demons Souls.

In the end my setup was:

10 - Brutal
10 - Tactical
10 - Survivor

Impaler III-L
Cudgel IV-L

Double Crossb-o-matic V+
Double Crossb-o-matic II+

Topaz Amulet VII
(-20% damage received)

He was doing hardly any damage to me with my shield up, and my turrets were just eating him up. I'm so happy. I never thought I'd beat this game :')

I'm on Stilts village and I need a key to open a door to progress, but there are no more in the level

Is this a known bug?
