But you are just confirming how people will defend and argue in favor of clear offensive language because you like the person.
I know it is... my point was that this particular metaphor is usually reserved for times when a person is taking it too far to defend something obviously problematic.
But I guess your choice of metaphors fits with the general hyperbole and self-righteousness on display ITT.
Personally, I'm more forgiving of a young person making stupid mistakes, provided that they didn't double down on it, and given the way the story went, I'm happy to give her the benefit of doubts that she has learnt her lesson, as Hickam has decided to forgive her after her apology.
While there is a discussion to be had about whether sexist expressions like "suck my dick" or "grow a pair" should exist, I don't think that's her sole responsibility to weed out these misogynistic ideas from the society.
She made a mistake, she apologized for it, the subject of her insult accepted her apology, I don't think she needs to be punished further.
Now whether she should get a better position out of this is another story, but it's not my decision to make.

An aggresively insulting response isn't all that unusual if a stranger inserts themselves telling you to watch your language. Dude should have used more than one word to explain.

The term pussy is a problem as it's using female demoralised to paint someone as passive, submissive, unable to stand up for themselves, etc... which obviously is negative toward actual female human beings and can perpetuate sexist ideas.
Telling a person to suck you dick doesn't have the same problematic undertones. It's rude, but it's not perpetuating sexist ideals.

It's not about wanting to see someone fail. As I mentioned in my last post, it's about her character and lack of sound decision making. If I offered someone a job and that happened, I wouldn't give them a second chance. Who knows how they'll act in the future and what kind of damage it could do to your organization or your own reputation, as you were the one who offered them that opportunity.
Homer Hickam comes out of this looking pretty well. Naomi comes out looking like a dumb fuck who hopefully learned that social media means that random person you just told to suck your dick might be important.
