Lol, it would be badass if this happened. We have never had a western rep in Smash Bros. so far (not counting things like the DK reps, or Dark Samus).

Blizzard, bethesda and ubisoft should have more representation than fucking capcom

At least they support the switch

Capcom has more iconic mascot characters though. Megaman and Ryu are classics.

That's not to say other characters aren't iconic, like Doomguy, Rayman or Diablo/Tyrael/Deckard Cain but Capcom's guys are just more iconic AND more related to Nintendo.

That won't stop me from dreaming of Doomguy, Dovahkiin and Deckard Cain in Smash though. The 3 D's.

No chance. Makes no sense whatsoever.

Lost Vikings would make sense. Hell, even Rock n Roll racing would. Not Diablo.

I wouldn't hate the inclusion though.

What? Capcom has been supporting the Switch all year. We just got SF Anniversary, the MMX collections and in less than two weeks we're getting Monster Hunter.

Sakurai seems to be adding a whole lot of vilains, either characters or bosses, so why not.

Megaman's not that iconic, pretty sure Blizzard has more iconic characters than that.

Sakurai Qualifications for exceptional characters :
1. Do they have blue hair?
2. Are they a Sword wielder?
3. Are they Wifu / Husbando material?
4. Are they from Fire Emblem?

Final Fight Cody or Streets of Rage Axel?

Crap lol.

I meant Streets of Rage Axel for more SEGA representation. Honestly a lot of beat 'em up characters sound appealing to me: him, the other SoR characters, all the Final Fight cast, Billy and Jimmy Lee, the Ninja Turtles (though that one is pretty much impossible)... Billy and Jimmy are the ones I want above all else, and probably the most iconic of the bunch because they're just classic 8-bit Nintendo.

I'm glad they're coming out and saying this, it means they don't have any characters in. Now I just need Bethesda and Microsoft to say similar things so I can sleep a little better at night knowing I'm not about to blindsided by a fucking Skyrim-man or Steve announcement.

I don't know about going with Diablo specifically, but having a Blizzard character in Smash would be sweet; certainly that company has contributed enough to gaming that it would be deserved. Ah, but which character... I would go with someone from WoW, personally— maybe Arthas.

Deckard Cain is a classic. He's been around since 1996, that's before even Ganondorf.

I have no idea what his move set would be but I imagine it would revolve around identifying shit.

They added him to Heroes of the Storm not too long ago if you want an idea. I think they took so long adding him to that game just because it's so hard to come up with a good Deckard Cain moveset. Anyways, he has a move where he puts everyone to sleep while he rattles off a variety of stories and they made an updated Deckard Cain Rap for him so I think they did a pretty good job.

Hmmm maybe not today, but in terms of gaming history, which Smash is all about, he's absolutely more iconic than anything Blizzard has.

At least that's the sense I get but maybe I'm wrong.
Nah, StarCraft was the essentially the national sport of South Korea and the valkryrie of modern esports as we know it today. WoW reached what 10-12 million monthly active subscribers and ten's of millions copies sold.

Megaman despite being older than those franchises and having more entries was never that big not in it's home country nor abroad. It was never a phenomenon.

Yes, maybe Blizzard has more iconic games or franchises, but I'm talking characters, not franchises. Megaman is a mascot character and therefore probably a lot more iconic and recognizable than most of the characters Blizzard has.

Western games typically don't have franchise mascots like that.

Goku would be cooler than anyone from Diablo.. People are crazy just because of some silly "video game first" rule they think is set in stone.

"would you want a character in smash bros"
"ahahaha no, of course not. its not even a fighting game, you hear me nintendo fans? AND MELEE IS SHIIIIIIIT"

There are zero negatives for answering the question and zero positives for saying you dont want it. Why people always act surprised when that happens. When someone goes out of their way to say "hey we want our character x to be in smash", then its newsworthy

Yeah, it's not that Blizzard's games aren't incredibly popular and well-recognized, it's that almost none of them even have a singular main character to begin with. They just don't make games like that.

I mean they certainly have enough memorable characters to make a MOBA with dozens but it's crazy to say any of them are nearly as iconic as Mega Man. But very few characters are, he's up there with Sonic and Mario.

Well then my perception might be coloring my claim then, because I have no idea who either of those characters are.

Note- the only Blizzard franchise I've played (for more than a couple hours) is Diablo.

Nah, I agree with you, and I know who those characters are.

There's "well-known within the franchise", and then there's "recognizable even if you've never played the game". People with limited exposure to Blizzard's games might know Diablo, Tracer, generic Orc soldiers, Protoss and Zerg units, and maybe Deckard Cain and the Butcher if they've played a bit of Diablo, but those games' named characters, ironically enough, don't have those striking unique designs that a lot of Japanese arcade and console games from the 80s and 90s had. Many Western characters lack recognizability because they're just fairly-realistic looking humans. Show Jim Raynor (arguably Starcraft's biggest protagonist) to anyone who's never played Starcraft and they'll go "oh, that's a Space Marine!". By contrast, even those beat 'em up characters I mentioned earlier are much more striking and fitting despite being humans. They're more stylized and more colorful.

A Protoss is a much more iconic figure for Starcraft, if only because they're on the equally iconic boxart lol.

I can't think of a single Blizzard character that would fit at all. I kinda feel like unless you do two discrete sides and styles like MvC, you can't really mix Eastern and Western characters without the aesthetic just completely devolving into a PlayStation All-Stars shitshow.

Maybe Sakurai could prove me wrong, but I just can't picture it looking good at all.

>inb4 "what about K. Rool, Diddy, and Dark Samus"
It's a testiment to Retro's and Rare's character designers that they made characters that are so distinctive and yet fit so well in their existing series. Still that's a different situation since they were working on a Japanese series under a Japanese company.
Any of the Overwatch characters would fit in fine. Not that I want them in the game but they wouldn't look out of place.
