I managed to get 148 on tutorial 4. I think I'm satisfied with that now, I need to move on and see more of the game.

Yeah, think I'll be making a first pass over everything before trying to dive in to compete.

For anyone trying to print the PDFs, the duplex setting should be "flip on short side".

Game looks mighty fine on 4K OLED.

Check out the books:

I'm not a programmer so I've been struggling a bit but slowly making my way through the beginning of the game. I just completed the first arm level which took me an embarrassingly long time but felt great once I got a solution :P

Some of the scores in this thread seem like witchcraft haha

Btw why Zachronics still does not allow results of your whole friend list? :/ Is it what? 4th game already? Come on man!

Also i spoiled myself a little with reddit, but there are some nice way to user T and X register as counter and loop breaks that i'm mad myself that i've not experimented first and figure them out. But it made managing loops so much easier, that i do not have TEST overlapping T as much now as i used to ;p

Yeah do that, i spent way to much time fiddling with first tasks.

Nobody is using a chat of this group unfortunately ;/

This is why I love Zach games. I think Jeff Gerstmann said puzzle games should make you feel like a genius for figuring out the answer. These games do that... for three seconds. Then you see you're on the bottom of the leaderboard even though you were sure you nailed it.

God dammit, why does test have to change the value of the T register, I've been trying to do the Library project, but if only I had one extra register...

I finally figured out how to get below the "60-something" cycle barrier on "Left Arm".
It's always incredibly satisfying to figure out a new trick.

left_armz1emb.png

(I don't know how Gotchaye is saving those last 2 cycles. I assume some pentagrams are involved)

I'm stuck at the one way link tutorial.

I can't figure out how to copy the file by communicating between exa's and the magazine tutorial isn't helping either.

It says swap the number and the keyword so that the number is first when it asks you to copy the two values.

I tried COPY 9780, ECHO F M or
COPY 9780 F M
COPY ECHO F M

But it doesn't seem to like me entering the word echo or the number, I have my other exa ready at the outbox with the empty file in hand ready to read and drop it when it's done.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, I think what you are looking for is "COPY F M" and "COPY M F" respectively.

In other news, I just made a really complicated solution which has absolutely amazing throughput for the "Heart" mission... but only as long as the sequence has at least 4 entries. And I don't think it can be fixed while keeping the throughput. A lesson in making sure of requirements :P

Any suggestion or hint how to make file to file copy below 4 cycles?
Do you need some spaghetti monster to synchronize this shit or there is smart low lines hack?

Reading a value from one file, sending it to the second EXA, then in this EXA saving it to the new file and moving at beginning of the loop.
Below 4 cycles per entry of course with validation of EOF/last M etc.
Here are some hints:
  • Consider that sometimes an error isn't so bad. It just kills an exa.
  • Think about the specific structure of the file you are copying. Sometimes, there might be consistencies you can leverage.

I've been using your first suggestion already, but synchronization with file writing EXA was a problem due to last line, but the second suggestion will work looking at the files in the level. Thanks.

If this game looks great. I'd really like to try and fumble my way through it, but I don't know if I'd get much time to sit at the computer to play. Do they ever release their games on the iPad?
I found TIS-100P on the App Store, which seems to be from Zachtronics, would anyone recommend that game?

I've reached the TEC Redshift stage, and cannot even think about where to begin.

Here are some thoughts I have on it:

Having tested with hard-coding 4-7-3 my plan is to, after every entry of 3 characters, clone an EXA to see if it can link 800. If not, it dies no problem, it so it can pick up the file and complete.

However, every time I begin on trying to get some system of passing in 3 characters to discover the password I just get stuck. I THINK I could write something to do it but then knowing which 3 unlocked it, I think I'd lose it...

In fact I've just had a thought, brb :) Thanks for being my rubber duck, ERA!

In the end i did not use similarity in the last string in files, but "synchronized" it way differently ;p

There goes being happy about my score, i looked at reddit and somebody got 162 in this level :O

That's fast!

The first "Battle" map was a bit simple, but Valhalla is really cool.

Well I have a working solution for TEC Redshift but it is size 52, and I can't see any way to cut down :(

SWIZ you beauty!

What am I suppose to copy though? It tells me to copy the values to exa 2 but I don't know what I'm suppose to tell the command box since it gives me a error message when I input the values.

You don't actually input the values. The values will change between test runs. The command "COPY F M" says "copy the value at the current position in the currently grabbed file into the M register" and then the other exa can read from the M register to get that value. Each time you read from F, the position in the file will move ahead by one, so that if a file contains "A, B, C, D" and you do COPY F M, COPY F M, COPY F M, COPY F M then the value that is copied into M will be A, then B, then C, then D.

It's the number of LINK instructions plus the number of KILL instructions executed.

This is the most intricate solution I've built in the game so far, by far. And it even has an appropriate storyline! (sadly to explain that I'd have to explain the mechanism)
Take that, region locks.

This one's way easier than TIS or Shenzhen. I'm getting decent relative scores this time too. Still unsure what Activity is - registers? occupied nodes?

https://steamcommunity.com/id/makaimariano

Woof, I had to move on from that one after staring at it for far too long and not seeing anything beyond the brute-forced solution you see there. I must be missing something major, and when whatever it is dawns on me and I realize I've been glossing over it the whole time, I'm going to feel like a huge idiot, haha.

Check the instruction list for instructions you haven't used yet
It's the exapunks version of
recursion

lol, my first Library one was ugly. I did it with parallel workers but they kept running into each other / killing targets passing by, so I wound up just padding it out with NOOPs at random points until the timing happened to work (hence the size 95)

I'm sure there's a cleaner way to track the new file IDs and coordinate the retreat. That'll be a fun one to figure out later.

Cleaned up a bit:

I aimed for low activity and low-ish size on this one. Expectedly my cycles is LARGE:

I just learned there was a limited edition that is now sold out. :( Am I gonna miss out on a lot of the experience without the feelies? I have played a lot of Zachtronics games but never knew they did short printed special editions.

You miss only the blue and red glasses they give you, but they're cheaper if you buy them outright.
