The fact that this whole mess blew up long before Jason even wrote about it makes him mentioning Jason even more bizarre, lol.

And yeah - this is pretty much an intentional non-apology to save face and continue on YouTube (which he probably will)

Man what a hack.

I would have never thought he could end up in a deeper hole after an apology but he succeeded.

Atrocious "explanation", refusing to take blame and own it, "unintentional plagiarism", blaming Schreier out of all people for missleading people to get clicks, refusing to admit this isnt the first time he stole other people's work for money, and to top it all, monetizing the video...

Another one with the victim complex portraying everyone else as the witch hunter, he would fit right in at Moriarty's podcast.

Just wish someone would transcript his bullshit explanation video on a non monetized version just so he wouldn't profit of his fake victim complex.

By definition plagerism cannot be unintentional. What he's trying to say that it's a coincidence or happenstance that his review mirrored Boomstick's. The problem with this of course is that you can't take ownership while also implying you're not totally at fault for the whole thing.

I don't get his explaination either that he looks at "all available resources" before forming his critical opinion. The "Take" business isn't about looking up what some other guy thinks about a thing and then parroting that or weighing it against someone else's. He was being paid to be a critic with his own opinions. These reviews are supposed to be his impressions, not those combined with the thoughts of other people he weighed them against. That's what podcasts and round table discussions are for, not reviews themselves.

Sad reality is he's not exactly a crisis manager so I guess it's not totally surprising that he muffed this apology. He double-spoke, didn't actually take responsibility, and then tried to go after another journalist for doing their job. I truly feel sorry for him if this has resulted in the harassment of his family as he claims, but this video really didn't do him any favors.

Guy needs to lay low for a while and try finding some other video work. But as a personality or critical member of the gaming community I think he needs to accept he's pretty much done.

"Oops, sorry, I made a fake iPhone but I guarantee you it was not intentional"
Come on, man... just apologize, explain you did it and move on instead of say nothing.

It's a standard confession/apology/statement staple. There's a good video from Bobby Burns breaking down these kind of videos:

This quoted video was posted a year ago and Filip followed this template almost point for point...

Wait a minute...He made an apology video for his plagiarism by plagiarizing other apology videos. I'm almost kind of impressed at his boldness.

This is incredible. Someone check this man's portfolio to see what else was lifted.

this is almost a "I apologize if you were offended" apology, which is the most disingenuous apology going lmao

Then a victim complex/thanks for all the real brahs for sticking with me.

Surreal.

On the day this all blew up I posted on here he should rightfully lose his job but expressed concern for his mental health and condemned some of the extreme backlash he was receiving. I stand by that, but fuck me I just listened to that response from the guy....if I was to try and create a worst possible response it still would not come close to that.

Wish the guy's family would be left alone. This video though just seems like a manipulation trick. He states he is taking responsibility but calls the plagiarism unintentional, which I doubt, and tries to blame journalists for reporting on the plagiarism.

I can kind of understand looking at other's work angle, but at the same time he wholesale stole opinions and phrases etc. - that's where the line is drawn. As a writer I look at the work of others all the time for inspiration/to learn or whatever but you absolutely don't lift sentences or slightly adjust them. It's not valid at all in this scenario.

The fact that this whole mess blew up long before Jason even wrote about it makes him mentioning Jason even more bizarre, lol.

Yeah he's totally deflecting, and doing it on his own YouTube it's absolutely for the crowd that will eat it up so he can fall back on his YouTube career.

He couldn't handle being a games journalist and he wasn't the best choice for Nintendo Editor without owning a Wii-U to begin with.

Refuses to recognize what he's done wrong.

Insults everyone's intelligence and good will with the 'unintentional' nonsense.

Refuses to apologize to the people from whom he stole.

Tries to shift blame to a third party for the sin of reporting on news.

Uses the terrible fact that there was a mob going after him to garner sympathy.

Monetizes apology video.

Apart from wishing he doesn't get harassed any further, this dude deserves no sympathy from me.

It is weird that he specifically picked up on JS from Kotaku when I assume there's probably many more websites that reported on this. Must be some vendetta?

I'm actually starting to think the guy is actually just a bit dim?

Can't write a review on time
Copies reviews thinking he won't get caught
Editing boss says his first drafts are shit
Doesn't have anything of substance to say on NVC
His mate on YouTube says he's struggling with the job
Contradicts himself in an apology

The guy is just straight up dumb and I was actually feeling sorry for him.

I checked out immediately at the thumbnail of the video. Fuck off with the typical manipulative try emotionally play to the camera Youtube apology with lots of sighs.

Own up for what you did prick. You copied a review. Your career as a games journalist has ended. Apologize, admit it, move on. Nobody is to blame but you.

If you look at the FIFA 18 review, it is much less blatant. He still lifted the structure, and used similar phrasing, but the obfuscation is much more sophisticated. I am guessing that he has grown more brazen over time as there is no room for plausible deniability with Dead Cells. I guarantee that he has plagiarized other reviews, but it may be much more difficult to actually locate the older ones if they are like the FIFA 18 review.

He's the one who originally tweeted and posted the article about Filip's plagiarism on the FIFA review from NintendoLife. Maybe he's not happy Jason went and searched for other things.

The person who reviewed that game for NintendoLife who called Filip out for that is now blocked from Filip's twitter account as well.

The way he faved around 30 comments on his video so that you get the impression that it's totally fine what he did...
I see what you did there.

I imagine there were but Kotaku def gets a good share of coverage so I imagine it was just high on the list from a popularity standpoint.

If people really found and harassed his family online, that's awful.

Accusing Jason of "clickbait" is complete inexcusable bullshit. "Fake News" levels of bullshit.

Well, he said it was a coincidence. I don't really have any reason to doubt him.

So, now that the new review is up and is a slightly lower score (9.7 to 9.5), how does that work for something like Metacritic? I may be wrong, but I don't think Metacritic typically changes scores after the fact. I remember reading something along those lines. I could see an exception in this case.

This is really all he can do to salvage any kind of new beginning "fake it 'til you make it" as they say. Didn't give him a click, got the gist.

This doesnt make any sense. Those two statements literally contradict each other. If it is a coincidence, he must stand by his point, instead he admits that he irs taking full responsibility. I think this guy is culprit here
Yeah this is what I had an issue with. Towards the end he spoke a good bit about becoming better. If, in his eyes, he did nothing wrong and it was completely unintentional, why does he need to get better?

He´s doing a pathetic ¨throwing myself on the grenade¨ to make it look like he has character.... except the entire situation is his fault. This is why it seems like he is implying that one or two others knew what he was doing or even put him up to it, but he is taking the responsibility.

A few thoughts.

1) THIS. WAS. NOT. AN. ACCIDENT. He didn't just watch a bunch of reviews and happen to copy the entire structure of one of them. There's no way. He may not have thought it counted as plagiarism if he rewrote it in his own prose, but he still knew what he was doing.

2) There's no reason to be going after Jason, who is one of the most respected games journalists anywhere. He showed his homework on that one, too. And I don't like the shitty way he emphasizes NEWS journalist like that's somehow less than what he does or not his business.

3) This is purely my instinct/read, but he's putting on a fake sincere voice and it sounds like compulsive liars and junkies I've known in my life when they're trying to con someone. It's fake, and it's fucking creepy.

He's saying Jason is trying to get them clicks, but quarantined back to youtube with his monetized video attempting to stir up a feud that could get HIM clicks.

That's my read on it anyways, it seemed rather forced... as if Jason is the reason shit was being called out, lol.
