I'm interested if this comes to mobile but considering Steam integration is vital I don't think that will happen. Hell we still don't have Gwent on Mobile.

Valve's next game, Artifact, comes to Steam in November

A version for Android and iOS devices is scheduled for sometime in 2019.

Valve's new CCG Artifact will come to mobile in 2019; will not be free-to-play

The only other info relevant to mobile gamers specifically is that Artifact will still be using the Source 2 engine when it comes to iOS/Android. This engine hasn't been used in a game since DOTA 2 migrated over in 2015 and Artifact will be the first game to use this engine on mobile devices. We imagine this may account somewhat for the delayed released as it's an unproven entity on tablets and phones. Android especially, with its diverse hardware pool, might prove especially difficult when it comes to porting.

Are you not allowed to come to a thread about a game here and say you wish the developers had spent their time making other things? Is that too offensive? Can't people here tolerate those who don't agree with them?

Valve disappoints me by making this game after the long wait we fans have been through.

You do realize that this would've gotten made regardless of other Valve projects? Valve (especially) is a company that doesn't put all their eggs in one basket.

nice, this is good to know. mythic rares would have not been great.
It is nice to see that after all the, to be frank, naive-sounding and optimistic marketing speech about "not being p2w" from Valve, there are actual design decisions in place to bring down the potential price ceiling of individual cards from usual TCG/CCGs.

Not making a 4th rarity for a handful of really complex/powerful cards, cuts prices for these few cards roughly by half, and you need something playable in almost every deck like Walking Ballista, in order to go over $10

That said, sometimes the 4th rarity is good for diminishing the effect a deliberately busted Mythic/Legendary has on draft, so we'll have to see how that works out in the end.

For people that complain about the 20$.

Find me 10 Hearthstone competitive players who have not spent a single cent on it.

Oh, nice. But after reading that it makes me think my devices won't run it.

THE IPAD AIR AND IPHONE 6 ARE STILL GOOD ENOUGH FOR 2018 AND BEYOND DAMMIT

Hahah... Yeah, I'm on an Air 2, so I should be good to go, but it may be the thing that convinces me to upgrade if it's a little laggy. :/

Why are silver and bronze outline rarities switched from what one would commonly expect. That is gonna fuck with me. (I have never played an online card game so forgive me if that is somehow standard.)

I just hope mobile and steam are connected.

I don't wanna double dip. . . .

or triple dip.

0 chance of separate unconnected game servers for each platform, that's like a non-starter for a CCG.

Yeah, I agree the coloring is very counter-intuitive, but people seem to be saying Tin, Bronze, Gold on the comments, which is, well weird.

I am super hyped for this game.

I've been playing Hearthstone ever since the beta and honestly it's becoming jading with the whole ladder system, RNG cards etc.

From all the videos I have watched for the game it definitely feels and looks like a game where you have to plan a lot out in advance which is right up my street.

Yeah it is a break from the norm but I think in time it would become easier to digest.

Do you think that the $20 in Artifact is going to get you the full deck? It is the equivalent of a starter pack.

People complain because the barrier of entry is not convenient. You cannot just try the game, you cannot invite friends and it is generally preferable to have a massive community of freeloaders for the health of the game. The only thing it is good for is avoiding cheaters, which should not be a problem in the first place.

Also, Artificat is made by a small team and many of them were hired specifically for it. Garfield, Brad Muir, and pretty much all the art is done by freelancers. It's not like they cancelled some other project to develop this. The only "big name" Valve person connected to it is Portal's Jeep Barnett, but considering his comments over the last year, it sounds like he's probably also working on a VR game.

Yeah, I get the feel $20 will be far, far, far from the total spending on this game. Hundreds of dollars a year would be more accurate if you wanted to keep a full collection of cards I'd guess. Unless there's no duplicates allowed in decks (which would reduce the need to obtain multiple cards of the same card), and if there is no possibility of obtaining repeat cards - then I'd lower my cost to much less, but as long as those things are the case like in most CCGs (getting dupes and being allowed to have more than 1 copy of a card in a deck), it's not gonna be anywhere close to $20.

I get the feeling the $20 entry is informed less by there being possible cheaters and more by controlling the possibility of smurf accounts. They're an issue in CS:GO, and that's why Valve haven't dropped the game below, like, 6 bucks.

I can see myself spending a lot trying to get special cosmetic editions of cards. Animated stuff, heroes in bikinis, all that fluff.

Yes, it would be great if they stick all the heroes (men included) in beach attire for extra money... wait, no it wouldn't, then forget hundreds, we're looking in to thousands lol.

Even this is questionable...look at how CS:GO is STILL like top 5 in sales and top 3 played game on steam after being out for 6 years. Everyone owns it already. I feel the price threshold is the best way to fix this though.

But this isn't CSGO. It is not a stand-alone purchase, it will not feature the full collection for $20, nor it will bundle any future expansions.

If this $20 price-point gave you a playset of the launch set, then it is a bargain, but you are only getting the core cards and some boosters to trade.

I get the "it's MTG but digital!" pitch but still a 20 dollar base game with digital booster packs you have to pay for is a TOUGH sell in 2018 with the amount of F2P stuff around, not to mention actually good physical card games.

If I can't get Wraith King in a thong they may as well just cancel the entire game.

COME ON VALVE, I NEED THAT BEACH SET.

Is it weird that this type of info is what I'm most interested in? With only these three rarities, with them talking about cards power not really being equal to its rarity and stuff like that, I'm really wondering what they're looking at for the monetization aspect. Assuming it's all tied up in cosmetic and specialty type stuff.

Nah it's not weird, I'm super interested in that too. They could do some amazing customization options.

Not to pick on you specifically, but the above seems to be a semi-regular issue about Artifact, so I'm curious: How many people actually play Magic or Hearthstone for the world, lore and characters? I can understand being neutral on the DoTA theme, but it seems weird that quite a few people seem to be focussing on the IP's lore/origins in a negative fashion.
Yeah, I absolutely have no interest in WoW, but I played a ton of Hearthstone. Now that I'm likely done with that game I'm pumped for Artifact despite zero interest in Dota.

Okay that's pretty awesome.

There could be a lot of cosmetics like card backs, the little helper thing, not to mention animated cards maybe? They also get a cut of every card traded via Steam too. There is a lot they could monetise on.

Yeah it's that cosmetic stuff I'm really curious about. Just to what extent they will go. Already figured the helper/currior guy for sure. Biggest curiosity to me is some kind of card animation. The cards are pretty plain and flat and I'm just curious if they'll end up having special animated cards and stuff like that. Just more curious to what length they will go.

As far as animations go, I definitely feel The Witcher's animated cards in the stand alone Gwent are the gold standard, pretty nice see actual moving 3D scenes on the card, instead of tiny little effects and fake 2D movements in Hearthstone.

Really looking forward to Gwent's huge single player mode whenever it releases, speaking of it. But Artifact hopefully captures that great multiplayer, strategy card game feel, and hooks me right in.

Anyone know if there's any sort of campaign or single player modes in Artifact? Doesn't have to be some 40 hour massive thing like in Gwent, could just be 20 minute battles like Heathstone too.

I think it'd be cool to give hero cards like a 3d model standing on top of their card or something like that. Would give room for different models and outfits for the heroes as well.

No SP modes bar the training you get to understand the game as far as I'm aware.

Regarding the last paragraph, cards in a given rarity doesnt have to be an uniform distribution

No single player beyond a sort of tutorial to get you up to speed - however a core part of Artifact's existence is to try and move away from the grindy nature of digital card games. They discuss this in detail in the below video and this article, and it seems small scale tournaments for all skill levels with be a help in this regard.

I'm curious. Looking forward to trying it at PAX.

Being able to buy cards is fine, but if you can't also grind to earn cards then I'll probably pass though.
