It's not like XFL 2.0 is going to happen anyway.

They spent more effort editing this than improving the game. They mailed it in completely for 19. I know folks will just laugh it off and say they do that every year, but it's particularly bad this season.

He is an unperson as far as the NFL is concerned. Down the memory hole with him!

That is not why. There is no rule that a player with a grievance or other litigation against the league cannot be referenced in Madden. Lost of players have grievances with the league. They didn't pull Brady from Madden when he sued them.

Stated reason and intent are different things. You and I and the rest of the world know why Brady and Kaepernick would be handled differently and that was never particularly up for debate. That said, I stand by that being the stated reason someone either at EA or the NFL made the call to edit his name out. Hence being tone deaf at its finest.

Out of curiosity, is Kaepernick in the FA list in the game itself? If he's not, is Dez Bryant or any other notable currently unsigned free agent in? Again, as far as I understand it, Kaepernick is still a member of the NFLPA so would still be covered by their licensing. I could be wrong on that though.

Damn, are all the current ones terribly made?

..whoops.. misread the conversation...

NFL 2K5 (2005) was the last pro football game to compete with Madden. Since then EA has had an exclusive license with the NFL and no one has dared to create a competing franchise. The last NFL Blitz game was in 2012 for instance.

An additional travesty is that we haven't had a new college football game since 2013 (EA's NCAA football 2014). That would have been my alternative .. although these days I have a real problem with handing money over to EA.

I still play older NCAA football games to get my fix. (personally, I can't support the NFL anymore mainly due to CTE... I wonder how soon that will extend to, and poison my love of college football...)

I wonder if it has anything to do with his lawsuit against the league. As in like even if they wanted to they couldn't mention him in any way in the game

The management of the NFL is evil in a very real sense of that word. That's not a joke, and not hyperbolic. The organization's response to silent, peaceful gestures against extrajudicial killings by police is a stain to anyone of good conscience.

I assume EA is at the NFL's whim on this, since they're specifically working with that license.

EA edit songs on soundtracks so much I honestly don't know how they get away with it in terms of licensing.

There's a song on Burnout Paradise where the words 'the smoking gun' are taken out of the song. It's not even a real gun reference, it's metaphorical. And it's not going to affect the 3+ rating whatsoever! It's crazy!

He's not blackballed from the league though. No collusion! No puppets! Just totally above the board erasing somebody's name from any association with our league.

Ok, but has EA or the NFL stated that the pending grievance is the reason, or are you anticipating that is what they say (if they say anything)?

The latter although I think the most likely response is they collectively choose to not give a response at all. Actually, I think the most likely response is they do, in fact, just quietly pull that track from their soundtrack and pretend it never happened.

There are no current ones, sadly
Oh, that's a real shame. I don't follow sports games, so I have no idea what's going on. But you'd think that, considering people have been pissed with the NFL, even before all the CK stuff, that someone would create a product for people who love the sport but hate everything related to the organization.
