Great choice, OP. My personal favourite gaming sound is still the legendary drop sound from Diablo III:
I'm also a big fan of the gold drop sound from the original Diablo:
(I'm not sure if the "item drop sound" accompanied it though. My memory may be failing me, but I remember it just being the tinkling of the gold...)
Oh I expected it was going to be the sound a lead pipe makes when you hit an enemy in Streets of Rage 2 ;). But yes, the sound you choose is pretty great.
PS1 startup owes a lot to the Roland D-50:
Those Laserdisc videos are wild.
For me, that would be the sound of a pickaxe hitting ore.
Does it every time.
I believe they represent all the games that you've played. The more games you play, the more towers you have during startup. Can anyone explain me how those white rectangles on the background works? Never had so many of them.
Now THAT is a classic childhood sound for me.
You know you're in for some classics. First Blood, Rambo [part 2], The Wizard, Lock Up, Jacob's Ladder, T2, Total Recall...
Freaking Cutthroat Island killed them...
Those are your save blocks on your memory card! Can anyone explain me how those white rectangles on the background works? Never had so many of them.
I came in here knowing exactly what it was going to be, and was not disappointed.
I would say RE remake's headshot SFX would be close, like in the top 5 for some:
