It's a little high, but combat is fun so I don't mind too much.

4 hours in, starting first chapter of the hunter character. Is it confirmed so that they're just 8 different tales without an overarching plot? That would be actually interesting and innovative for a JRPG, literally the perfect example of "it's not the destination, but the journey". And of course the friends we make along the way.
Be careful because the final boss has been beaten and the video is on youtube!

Definitely a big dark final boss fight if you read his description of it!
Waaahhh Alfyn is such a good boy!! Seeing him with the little kids is just the cutest thing ever omg. When he got all sad at the end for having to leave them, and the little girl got sad back just - oh gosh my heart.
Really glad that Vanessa gal or whatever her name was ended up bad so I could kick her butt, I disliked her the moment I saw her and that dumb ribbon woven in her hair LOL.
Also, man, some of the NPC stories in this game are so friggin' sad. The old man who lost his kid and they weren't able to have another one hurt my soul a bit. :(

Trying to work my way on over to Ophilia's chp2 now and wow they certainly make it difficult don't they lol.
I think that after doing a few (2 or so) chapter 2 stories you should be at the level where you can get to most shrines safely. Some shrines are in pre-chapter 3 areas, which might be too dangerous still, though.
Thanks. Good to know. So I don't have to worry about any of that for now. I think I still want to recruit everyone before doing any chapter 2 stuff just so I have all the options available before I decide on a first string combination.
I could collect them all no problem before doing any chapter 2 stuff *shrugs*

I was thinking that the steal/purchase actions are related to the level of the character, isn't it like that? As in: you get better steal success rate if Therion is at an high level, or you can buy some of the items with Tressa only if she is at an high level. If no level constraint exist, I can use them only in towns, as you wrote.
What levels were your characters? I was out of town during the week so my save state is still from the 3 hour mark of the demo.
I also got all the shrines before doing any chapter 2s, also ran into a weird late game town that I'm pretty curious about to see later.
I was running two black mages for awhile but decided to just mix it up for the hell of it for Ophelia's chapter 2 and took out cyrus for Alfyn who was level 10 compared to everyone else being 20-25 but he actually did really well and was basically level 20 by the end. Last Stand is super good.

Today when I get home, I'm going to bust out a brand new notebook, and start keeping lists of where to buy different materials for concoction in the various towns I've been to so far, and keep notes on NPCs who clearly seem to be future quest hooks. There's a lot of data in the game that is helpful but not automatically recorded. Need physical journal lol.
I'd say that level 20-25 should be fine for reaching most shrines.
Oh gosh I'm so blind. I was trying to get to Saintsbridge for Ophilia and I somehow completely missed the turn off on the South Clearbrook route. I couldn't see the path split on the map either so I thought maybe I had to go all the way around? So lo and behold I wind up w/ my ass all the way in Riverford (very clearly an end game town lmao) and no, there is not a way around LOL. So went back to try Clearbrook area again and of course I found the dang path no problem this time. Smh at myself
I've already given up on that lol. I would have bought all the valuables from NPCs I could find if I wasn't constantly hoarding gold to buy new gear. Such is the noble path.
They were all around lvl 13-15.
Just recruit everybody and then collect all jobs, it's simple and there's no real threat. Use Cyrus and his ability if you're afraid.
Finished all Chapter 2 now. From now on I'll finish one story at a time, starting with my main Cyrus. Should be a fun challenge!
I'm getting quite tempted to switch out Cyrus for Alfyn with the Scholar subjob since I really, really don't like the scrutinise ability. Having to rely on luck for something you don't even know the return of (unlike stealing or alluring) is annoying. Add onto that the fact that there's no way to reset your reputation until you've blown all 5 chances and it's really not a fun skill to use, especially in towns with tons of people in them.
Doesn't look like it is from what I've played of it. A tad blurry. Frame rate regularly dips into the 20s too.
That's what i realized aswell, dont really know what those posters are talking about, im not gonna say all the voice acting is incredible but I havent really heard a "bad" voice acting yet
It doesn't matter a lot in the grand picture. Between being able to select the other 3 characters of your active party, and being able to set a secondary job for every character, your starting choice isn't formative for your party strengths and weaknesses. I'd say choose the character whose story you like most. If you're unsure about which one that is, I think Cyrus and Primrose are great stories (played both Chapters 1 and chapters 2).
Whichever you like best since you'll be stuck with it on your party until you complete their storyline. It's mostly inconsequential since party composition is totally open between main jobs and secondary jobs.
I don't think Steal gets higher percentages with level. Could be wrong. Tressa's purchasing is level gated though. Though I haven't seen much I haven't been able to steal and I've been to most chapter 2 towns.
Are you planning to play through their stories after your initial 4?
I've been switching characters pretty regularly and the ease of adding and taking away subjobs means I'm not short on any in battle skills at any time. I don't really see a benefit of sticking to a rigid 4 character party.
Yup. There's this character in Olberic's Chapter 2 who has some pretty good voice acting, which really matches their character. More generally, voice acting seems very decent, better than what most JRPGs have imo.
Primroses allure ability is fun. I took a dancer with me from her beginning town and man did she deal some good damage. Finding out new useful NPS's will be fun to do.
I now have my party of 4 with Therion, Alfyn, Primrose and Haanit. Im at level 13 or something and I see the chapter 2 quests are all >level 20. I might as well do the prologues of the other characters while I grind a little and begin the chapter 2 quests of my main 4 later on.

The usual young guy trying to sound like an old guy seemed pretty heavily prevalent in Primrose's story. Crazy annoying. I found most VA in that chapter generally bad or melodramatic. Switched over to Therion and that's been better. The VA seems very uneven in terms of quality.
I love this game at the same time that I hate it. I really would love for it to have more interaction between characters. It sometimes feels really odd that they don't talk or appear in each others scenes or that some of them help out certain characters (like, why is Olberic, super noble Warrior, or Ophilia, helping out Therion? Makes little sense to me)
On the other hand, the game is absolutely BEAUTIFUL, and the OST is just glorious. The battle system and job system are also incredible. So yeah, conflicting feelings about this game for sure.

I already know the subjobs I'm gonna assign to them too, to have all the spectrum covered.
Therion is my main and I've already had H'aanit slightly scold me, or at least disapprove of me having to steal something for a quest. But she said at the end of the day she considers me a comrade so overlooks it.
I don't have a preferred 4, just using everyone as much as possible. Only time I'll worry about a preferred 4 is the final boss.
Well I don't know how many hours I'll be able to sink into the game, so it's just a matter of priority to me.
But I guess I can live without Olberic and switch in Therion, even if I like Olberic a lot more.

I think the review from Kotaku has put me off. Character interaction is so important for me, and if its as devoid of it as the review suggests I don't think I can go in on it, which is a shame because I'm sure it looks and feels great otherwise.
I found an npc who has a godly weapon but quick question
It's a dagger with +188 elemental attack. If I give it to Cyrus (he has thief sub job) does he gain benefit of elemental attack when casting magic or only thief attacks that have element properties

Got all 8 characters. ( Chapter 1 done )
Started with ophilia and i don't regret anything.
-Ophilia is great.
-Hannit is fine , but her story was not without problems
-Cyrus prologue was boring , but i did smile at the end.
-Tressa is quite usefull and i liked how upbeat her story is.BUt i'm not a fan yet.
-Olberic is a beast and his story started slow but ended on such a high note.

( There is such a heavy forshadowing that some events happenned 10,8 years before the start of the game , not to mention the lore, it's actually very well done how they did it )

Really liking Alfyn as main. Just super useful in any situation. Concoct is as OP as I expected, and there is no real lack of materials.
How do you get the materials?
I have no shortage of secondary materials like essence of plum and pomegranate, but I'm always short on primaries you need to even start concocting.
