Like, there's a tonnnnnn of shit in the prequels that's bad, but this really takes the cake.
They didn't miss the point. They just decided to say "nah fuck that I'm gonna do my own thing" and fuck it up.

I'm not a big enough fan to know every infamous quote, but if this one wins I ain't even surprised. It's not just a horrible quote in regards to what it represents, it's also just super lazy

It's the kind of line you'd think would only be temporary until you come up with something better

This is bad, but a throw away line. Certainly not as bad as trying to sum up why the big back is back with only 3 words.

Not the worst line....but I got so tired of seeing, "this is not going to go the way you think," after The Last Jedi came out that it drove me to loathe the line.
The point of why it's so bad is that it implies he has full awareness that he's operating from a flawed viewpoint and is just all-in anyway.
Like, yes, the reasoning in the context of the script is that from his point view it's the Jedi that are evil, but as the guy who lives within his own head it should just be, "The Jedi are evil" not, "I have a warped worldview that causes me to view the Jedi as evil, and I'm okay with that!"
It's the same sort of "reading directly from a bad script draft" dialogue as "somehow, Palpatine returned".

Looking back on it it's kinda astonishing that Disney managed to make a worse film in Episode IX than any of the prequels.
I'm sure we'll get a Disney+ series about how it ended up on Tatooine and was found by a fan favourite character or something.
Not the worst, but Leia's response to finding out Luke is her brother is laughable. "I know... somehow, I've always known."

There's no way there wasn't a physical cringe by someone in the studio over that line.
