Its one of my favourite IPs. Platinumed 1, Remaster and 2. I feel so sad when I see a bunch of comments blaiming the gameplay / combat. I agree that some missions can have bad design, but the combat is one of the games best parts in my opinion :(

Dang, so much hate in this thread. And here I thought the games were well liked here.

I love both games (on ps4). The og on vita was a bit of a pain in the ass to play. Really wish we'd get a third.

Gravity rush 2 is in top 5 of the game I playedon Ps4 (and that says a lot), so no, the game is great.
What happened? Sometimes games don't sell as much as they deserve and it seems unlikely Sony will proceed with this series and that's such a shame.

Gravity Rush 1 is a good game but 2 is an outright masterpiece.

One of the best open-worlds this gen, especially the first area because of how it's design is intrinsically tethered to the narratives and class struggle themes of the first half of the game.

The second half of the game is rushed but you can tell they essentially squeezed in the plot from the third game into this, either knowing there wouldn't be a sequel or not wanting to take a risk and leave the story unfinished.

2 improves on just about every metric, visuals, gameplay, world design, mission structure, character development. It's really the perfect sequel.

It has far and away my favorite open-world traversal mechanics this gen and the much maligned side missions were actually a place of joy for me.

You can tell so much care went into this game when even missions like throwing a frisbee to a dog have their own mechanic specifically designed for this one-off side mission. Sure some were clunky, but I'd rather have the uniqueness that makes certain missions like that stand out.

Even the simpler ones just burst with character and further entrench Kat's dedication to this world and its people. In one day she can save the entire city from a deluge of monsters only to later help someone move their furniture.

This is cohesive with the way the game seeks to empower and disempower the player. Some will criticize the combat but I believe it is intentionally off and frustrating at times, given the developer's history developing horror games.

It emboldens the idea that while Kat is a seemingly exemplary person, at the end of the day, she's just a normal girl that happens to be able to control what direction she falls in. This isn't easy for her, and it shouldn't be easy for the player.

It's less her powers and more her unconditional compassion and drive to help others that make her a hero.

It's one of the most inspirational games I've ever played.

GV2 has an animation series, symphonic live music performances and a wordwilde promotion with posters and TV advertising.
I love this IP (for me it's the same game in two parts), but it just flops.

GR2 was a sequel to a vita game so it was always going to be more of a niche title.

It was a moderate success in Japan because it had a decent marketing campaign. It basically got nothing in the west.

I feel like Gravity Rush is one of those things that in paper is a 10 but in execution is an 8/10, its individual parts are genius but them combined are kinda messy. I adore the IP and hope it comes back in the future, but I can also see why it failed. The fact that very few outlets nominated the Zelda BOTW score over Gravity Rush 2's soundtrack in 2017 was a crime though

I personally would describe GR as a beautiful franchise I would never play because its core mechanics arent fun in any way to me.

It is fun to watch however.

I felt like the developers were already struggling to come up with new ideas for GR2 so I don't know what the fuck they would do for a third game. I think the series has already peaked and other than the online bullshit, Sony gave it more than enough of a push. I really liked both games but I don't mind it being done.

I would vastly prefer the team work on a horror game again.

If you remove Dark Souls from the equation, It's the same thing that happened to Demon's Souls. i.e. Sony all but sent it out to die.

Loved the first game. The 2nd game looked like a comic come to life and I was thoroughly enjoying it, right up to attaining and using Jupiter powers for the first time. Basing that in such narrow confines was fucking dumb and made me give up on the game. But I still wish Sony had done right by it.

All I want is a third game. Juat one more game that takes advantage of the SSD and more Kat and friends adventure. I really love this series and would love more.

Heck, while you are at it, make an anime.

Just give me more damn it...

I feel ya. I feel like I'm content with how the second game ended. It wraps everything up with a nice bow, even if it is bittersweet.

But this is maybe one of the only examples where that doesn't matter to me, I'll take another helping.

Yeah.

Like just make it about some other threat coming up and Kat stopping it. No need to make it some godlike figure. Put in some mafia or something who are destroying the cities so Kat takes them down. Anything would be fine really.

My favourite part of the second game were Kat just going around helping other people. She was such a charming protagonist and it would be a shame not to see more of her and the other characters.

Plus there are some loose ends they can pick and expand on which would be interesting.

The first game was good and had an interesting world.

The second game looks great but has some of the worst quest and mission design I've ever seen. The story is really boring and Kat is the only mildly interesting character in the game. The rest is completely forgettable.

Shame because the world is cool.

I really love the Gravity Rush series, especially the first one; I managed to import a European PS4 copy since the American version is stupid rare, and it's one of the only PS games I ever got a platinum trophy for. I never actually finished 2 which I was liking a bit less due to the stealth missions and added bloat, but I was still enjoying my time with it because the stories and characters are incredibly charming and enjoyable, plus the combat feels much improved. I plan on finishing it someday.

To be honest it's been a struggle finding Sony exclusive games that interest me this gen, so I'm really happy I got around to playing this series, but also disappointed in its lack of popularity and Sony's own interest. I have nothing inherently against the rest of their output, but GR appeals more to my specific tastes, especially since I'm a sucker for the idea of an anime-influenced superhero game. While I like the gameplay, I would not mind at all if GR was continued in the form of an anime or manga.

I also need to stan Kouhei Tanaka for a moment due to being one of my favorite anime musicians, and I immediately recognized his style of music when I booted Remastered up for the first time. If Sony ever makes a Gravity Rush 3 without his involvement, then it wouldn't be GR3 in my eyes (or ears rather).

1:20 was where I just went "Holy crap, the One Piece composer!?" and my intuitions proved to be correct. Really talented guy with a distinct style that fills your imagination with wonder and adventure.

No, it is not one of the best open worlds this gen or even a masterpiece because the world is just there to collect crystals and to find more or less annoying sidequests, the stealth ones being the biggest offender. also the "flying" which is more like falling is cool for like 90minutes after that it gets old.

the gameplay is boring and the story goes nowhere. also, the game was far too long for its own good, when a game has such weak gameplay mechanics maybe don´t try to make it extra long. the combat including the camera were just not good at all and the game wastes too much time on nonsense dialogues.

it looks colourful and fun but it just isn´t fun to play at all.

for me both games were 6/10 material and frankly just boring.

i think i liked the idea of the series better than the actual games. GR1 was pretty neat and GR2 was prime time to shine but tbh it was... just kind of okay

I remember liking the first, but the 2nd felt bloated and awful to play. Got it for free, still feel like it cost too much given the amount of time it took. Way overstayed it's welcome and just was not great.

Wondering now if I liked the first just because I didn't have much else to play on my vita....

Sony didn't market it, you people didn't buy it.
I blame Sony. They let GR2 die when it released.

I want Gravity Rush 3 damnit.

If you haven't then play Sakura Wars. That game has another awesome Kohei Tanaka soundtrack.
I'd prefer a game but I'd settle for that. After how GR2 ended, I need a follow up in some form.
Or an anime at least. Sony were talking about making tv shows from their games. Gravity Rush is already structured as a slice of life anime.

Do it Sony! GR needs to survive.

Sakura Wars is the most recent game I picked up for the system and the music is absolutely wonderful! I haven't finished SW either (this is a problem for 80% of games I play, even ones I like...) but now that you mention it, I might just try to get back into it and maybe GR2 this weekend.

Haha I have the same issue. I start a game and enjoy it then I go to sleep and feel the itch for some other game so I play thatt and don't return for a while.

I've tried giving the series a chance on multiple occasions and it's just.. not fun to play. The camera in combat is a mess, the combat itself is serviceable, and then on top of that all the flying about gives me bad motion sickness lol. It's a series I really wanted to love, but I completely understand why it's ignored by so many.

I played the Remastered version of the first one but wasn't impressed enough to get 2. For a game with such an interesting mechanic it was not that fun to play.

I adore gravity rush and 2 is better you all, but the game like mega bombed. 2 was already a miracle that it got made, and came out to super weak numbers, so unfortunately, I think the series is dead or going to at least sit for a bit. Really unfortunate. I long for the alternate universe where GR became huge and Kat became the face of Sony. Always loved her character and design.

The entire first half of the game underpins class struggle and the world is designed around that. With the booming business center in the middle, the wealthy above them, while the poor are in the shadows below, all the while the tyrannical powers that be watch from their fortress sidelining it all.

The world has a narrative basis for existing because not only does it adhere to those themes, but the side missions serve to envelop Kat, and the player by extension into the world through meaningful character interaction. That's why many of the stories have continuations throughout the game.

There's maybe 2 or 3 stealth missions in the entire game?

They added two layers of dynamic to the traversal mechanic and weaving between the 3 styles can net satisfying results.

As for the story going nowhere, I think that's just plain wrong. The story, especially in the third act is extremely ambitious, to the extent that some detractors would say it's too ambitious.

I hope Silent Hill performs well enough so that the team gets a shot on making GR3 (if the rumors of the GR team working on it is true).

GR2 is my favorite PS exclusive this gen

Really liked GR1. Gotta track down a physical copy. Played it through PS+ and wasn't able to buy it because of that (what a dumb fucking system).

As for GR2, I hope to play it soon.

Gravity Rush 2 is one of the most beautiful and charming games ever created, it looked so clean on PS4 Pro with a visual style that's off the charts. The problem is that beyond the great feeling of flying, the game isn't really very good. It is passable at best. The missions are boring, there's too many of them and the stuff you do isn't always all that fun.

I had more fun with the original on Vita and I even enjoyed it again on PS4. But even then the game suffers from many of the same negatives as the sequel, just to a lesser extent.

Art direction wise, it's one of the best games Sony ever published. It's a very unique experience and there hardly anything like it on the market. It's obvious that the dev team put a lot of passion into creating both games.

That being said, I think poor sales because word of mouth never really spread. The game had a questionable mission design structure that made people quit, it's a big shame because I think this could have had a lot of potential.

That means jack shit when the missions are so bad that player won't be interested in doing them. No one is actually discussing the value of these as a meaning of character development.

There's maybe 2 or 3 stealth missions in the entire game?
It's not that stealth missions are the only crappy missions, it's just that they were the worst offender, but overall the missions in GR2 are pretty bad.

They added two layers of dynamic to the traversal mechanic and weaving between the 3 styles can net satisfying results.
Now that's something up for debate. I personally love the traversal in GR2, but there really isn't much incentive to actually uh, traverse the world. You either get crappy side missions or you have to find obscure collectibles. The big open world and most of the stuff you can do in it doesn't seem to play with the game's strengths.

Never played 2 but while I loved the art design of the first one, the colors etc I have to say the gameplay was boring and the controls on the vita didn't help, even after learning them you'd still find yourself spinning around in the air trying to kick one of those space worms in the red spot lol. Not sure what could have been done to make the game better since its strong point (the gravity manipulation) was also one of the main problems

Played the first game, and had a okay time with it, but not enough to get the sequel. The combat sucked, and the missions were repetitive. It just wasn't as fun to play as I'd hoped it'd be.

I played first in the Vita and the enthusiasm for the artistic section quickly made me bitter. The level design is not good and the combat becomes tedious and boring with ease. It is not controlled as precisely as it should and it is not until the end of the game that there are interesting challenges. The plot goes nowhere.

It wasn't a particularly remarkable game to play. The concept was novel, the art design gorgeous, and the soundtrack incredible, but in execution it's kind of a repetitious bore.
