4 weeks vacation, unlimited sick days. 5 or more weeks of vacation would be ideal, but 4 is fair.
Really, 4 weeks is never enough. I would love to increase it to 6 weeks a year, but I imagine that is difficult to find. This is where I'm at. 4 weeks a year minimum. (assuming 40 hour workweeks)
Me:
Sick: 100 hours
Vacation: 155 hours (increase every 5 years by three days)
What are your "realistic" thoughts on what a company should offer for sick/vacation days and you would be fine with the hours (and the company as well).
Sick: Unlimited with a doctors note/prescription
Vacation: 4 to 6 (work day) weeks.
(I've been with a company for nearly 17 years and we get 2 weeks sick leave, and 2 weeks of Vacation. Which is stupid, because I rarely get sick.)
Lol you can tell who lives in Europe and who is in the US. It's apples to oranges.
33 weeks?! You only have to work 19 weeks a year?Yeah totally. I get 33 for my job in the UK and I still eye France with jealousy.
DaysI don't think I've ever taken more than 2 weeks off in a year...luckily it carries over and there's no cap (well, if there is, I haven't hit it) I have such a large bank of PTO built up when I can afford to take a vacation I'll be golden.

How did you start out? Like, how much vacation time did you have in your first year?I work for an international company but based in the US - and after 20 years I get 5 weeks vac and 2 weeks of sick.. Friend works for a locally owned company and after 15 years gets 2 weeks vacation and week of sick time .. So.... I like mine better...
I know other highly developed nations get much more time. The Americans in this thread are going to be in for a shock...
If people wouldn't abuse sick time (those that get a set amount a year) it would go a long way to justifying more or even unlimited. A lot of people just see it as an extra vacation bank and abuse it which ruins it for the people that use it properly.
3 weeks seems reasonable.
