so the one main thing that should get answered tomorrow is if the music will be updated or not, with how they've phrased it so far I have my doubts, and if the battle music is like that at launch it's going to be noticeable.

Also would love a exp toggle to be patched in since it's so easy to do apparently, but I won't hold my breath for that.

there was a trailer uploaded with updated wild battle music, its pretty hard to think that there won't be an update for it at this point

Rematches was all it took for most people ITT to change their mind? That's probably the single easiest part of Platinum to put in and that's good enough for y'all? Lmao.

Nah, the whole thing looks pretty decent at this point IMO. Not stellar by any stretch, but decent enough to scratch the itch. Those rematches are golden.

One of the more frequent complaints from fans of this series is lack of challenging battles in the post game... seems like that's absolutely being addressed in BDSP. To many people (including myself) that drives a lot of enjoyment for the game. 🤷‍♂️ Maybe it's minor, but I'm excited to fight some of the strongest trainers in the series to date.

I need a definitive list on all the available Pokemon that can be captured in the Grand Underground.

I want to start building a team ASAP.

The trailer theme is pretty likely to be an original composition, considering how it transitions between multiple different songs. It could be very similar to an updated wild battle theme, but I wouldn't say it's guaranteed. Original music/arrangements for trailers get made all the time.

The main reason people are excited for the BDSP rematches is because they finally seem to realize the potential the Pokémon battle system has for some really cool super bosses. The rematches in previous games (even Platinum's rematches) didn't do much outside of raising levels and filling out teams to 5. If you had an easy time with a boss before chances are it's just as easy and if not easier despite the higher levels because you have more powerful options that could easily wipe teams centered around one typing.

BDSP's rematches actually use Pokemon sets that are used in competitive play and were designed to incorporate high level strategies to actually give a challenge unlike any other in the mainline Pokemon series. The only way we got content like this is these games were through fan created romhacks but here they are in an official Pokemon release. That's objectively cool even if they are just rematches

Final Promo Video.

Also shows the Digletts in the Grand Underground.

(Please don't say Grand Underground is going to be as slow as Sw/Sh Wild Area was online).

You hit the nail on the head. Finding out about the rematches took me from thinking this was gonna be a snooze fest a-spam run but now I'm trying to build teams and am probably gonna EV train my starter and any pokes i plan to take into postgame.

I really wish the Platinum Costumes can be bought in the post game and the download just allowed you to get them early instead.

At present if you don't download the costumes by a set date, you won't be able to access them at all.

On that note, normally I tend to load up my Pokemon with attacks to cover my weaknesses.. but I may consider using status related moves for the main run judging from the post game.

Anyone gonna try and do a nuzlocke that extends into the post game? It seems like it might be insanely difficult

The rematch teams and the AI apparently not being a slouch does a lot for me. I'd still like to see a toggle for EXP share, but other than that I'm glad that there's something to look forward to at the end.

Those rematches with competitive Pokémon sets are a nice surprise. It's definitely not enough for me to reconsider my decision to skip BDSP, but it's a great post-game addition for sure.

Seeing the trailer with the glaceon following the trailer really makes me wish alolan vulpix was in this game, would look so cute!

Also based on some of the other scaling I probably will have to be selective over which Pokémon I allow to follow me.

Its still not enough for me to get the game, but I will say the rematch stuff is pretty great and exactly what the series should continue doing in the future. Also, I personally have no reason to constantly catch old legendaries, but the slates are all pretty amazing looking and I love that they look like old game cartridges.

Nail on the head.

Like, Volkner's final rematch team has a Pelipper on it that seems out of place until you realize that:

- It's there to set up rain with Drizzle and has a Damp Rock
- Rain for a team like Volkner's means the rest of his lineup can fire off 100% accurate Thunders.
- In addition to boosting Pelipper's STAB Hydro Pump, Pelipper can also let off more accurate Hurricanes off in rain.
- On top of that, his Raichu and Lanturn have Surf and gets that boosted for any ground types you try to bring in against them as well.

And the best part is that these teams seemingly ACTUALLY have the AI to use these teams optimally. This is the kind of challenge I've wanted from a Pokemon postgame for the longest. Putting teams together for these rematches should be really fun.

Probably wouldn't bother with the game if not for this, honestly. Motherfuckers got me this time.

Or the Battle Frontier lol
Well, I won't take away from people's excitement for the games, but I expect significantly more from a remake than what we're getting so it'll be a pass for me
I honestly think this is better than the Battle Frontier because they're at least integrated into the main story and could give players a more natural incentive to utilize more advanced team building strategies if they provide enough of a challenge. Plus you don't need to grind in a battle facility to come into a boss that could utilize these strategies unlike before where they would only be used in these places.

BDSP just gives you cool super bosses you could fight anytime that give you a similar experience while also allowing you to continue using mechanics facility rule sets wouldn't allow (like items and affection bonuses) and don't need a grind like 20 battles to experience them. As someone who didn't really get into the Battle Frontier for these reasons these rematches are exciting to me as someone who primarily plays the Pokémon campaigns.

Of course ideally the game should've also have had the Battle Frontier for people who did like the grind and chaos of the BF and to make these games more complete as a remake

I'm confident the music will be patched. They literally have the higher quality files and pretty much everything else they announced to be fixed is harder to do than changing the music.

I really hope that's part of the unspecified additional changes.
Well this isn't really the day one patch. It's just a patch they're putting out before the game's release and they state they still plan to add another patch to the game. So while the music improvements could still be in its not like they couldn't be in that patch that could still be out in time for launch if it isn't

Unlikely a scenario that it might be, imagine if they didn't fix it, people would be annoyed over it but also I doubt the outrage would catch Pokémon's ears in a significant way, the future isn't written in stone until it's the past and technically this is still a possibility.

But if the music isn't there in this patch, the critics will only have the terrible versions of certain songs to deal with.

I promise this isn't intended as a troll post (I'm probably going to be picking up Diamond myself)

But man, I really would rather of had just a release of the Platinum ROM on the Switch store instead. This thing is looking super disappointing to me the more I see of it.

People talking about nostalgia.... its gonna be a weird one for me. This gen is exactly where I fell off the series until recently, and mind you I only played Platinum, so for me the only vivid memory I look fondly on was the Giratina summoning... which wont be in this game so lmao fuck me I guess. I mean apparently there's something in the leaks about it happening in the Post-game islands but its not the same as where you get this cool story moment with Cyrus and everything culminating and going wrong. I'l live but man, they should have just done Platinum + some new Arceus-themed version instead.

Me too. The patch size is around 2GB which is quite large. Music and a couple 1 minute movies could definitely take up that space

The power of friendship and item spam. Honestly though if you turn off following this will legit be the hardest post game in pokemon history, even with friendship its hard as nails
World Tournament and Battle Facilities are harder, but this is legit the hardest the game can get with bag items in battle/level advantage.

I had a lot of fun with the HGSS postgame and this kind of looks like it could be similar. I still hate the chibis but I think I'm warming up to the idea of getting BD after all. Will probably buy it used if I do, though.

She actually ties with Red on HGSS as he has a Lv88 Pikachu (the highest NPC Pokemon), note that you can fight Trainers with higher leveled Pokemon on BW and B2W2 due to how some in-game trading work there (they fight you with the Pokemon you traded over and they keep the level +5)

Honestly people are talking up the rematch teams, but the first battle teams for the gym leaders aren't bad at all, they are greatly improved all around and keep in mind all of these below have EVs now and good natures as opposed to neutral ones and most of them have items now when before they did not.

-Roark's Cranidos gets Bulldoze to screw over Monfernos

-Gardenia's Turtwig gets a Miracle seed and Work up instead of withdraw and her Roserade gets Technician to hit harder instead of natural cure as well as Petal Blizzard instead of Magical Leaf

-Mayelene's Meditite gets Light Clay Light screen to set up as well as Bulk Up instead of meditate, Her Machamp has Low Sweep and Knock off instead of foresight and leer and an Expert Belt and Her Lucario has an Energy Root to make Drain Punch super annoying and Bulk Up to set up

-Crasher Wake has a Damp Rock Quagsire to set up his Swift Swim Floatzel

-Fantina's Drifblim has Will'o'wisp Hex combo and Strength Sap to make it annoying as hell lol, Gengar has a Colbur berry to stop dark attacks and isn't running a physical set unlike DP lol, Mismagius is mostly the same but with an expert belt

-Byron has Bronzor set up trick room now for his slow mons, His steelix has EQ now and replaced Ice fang with Thunder fang for water types, his bastiodon is still bad lol

-Candice's Snover has an Icy Rock for hail, her sneasel is a meme pickpocket set lol, Her Medicham gets rock slide for flying types and has an expert belt, and her Abomasnow gets Aurora Veil as well as EQ, Giga drain and Blizzard

-Volkner has a Shuca Berry Raichu with Surf for coverage and volt switch, His Ambipom has the anti fighting berry, his Octillery has an expert belt and a focus energy sniper crit set and his Luxray has intimidate and steel and ice coverage

For the E4

-Aaron- Dustox has Black Sludge and Moonlight for recovery to toxic stall better, Beautifly has Wiseglasses to boost Special Attack and Quiver Dance to set up, Vespiquen has Sitrus berry and Acrobatics, Flame Orb Guts Heracross with Facade speaks for itself lol, Drapion has Night Slash and EQ now alongside Scope Lens Sniper.

- Bertha's Quagsire has Water Absorb, Leftovers, Toxic and Recover on her Quagsire(annoying as fuck again lol), Her Sudowoodo has Rock Head Head smash with a Sitrus Berry, and it has EQ now, Golem has a much better set with EQ and Stone Edge and Heavy Slam with brightpowder, Whiscash has Rindo Berry Belch combo, and her Hippowdon is Chesto Resto with 3 attacks(sidegrade here)

-Flint has Wide Lens Hypnosis Rapidash with low accuracy high power moves, Life Orb Sheer Force Steelix, Minimize Will'o'wisp, Baton Pass unburden sitrus berry Drifblim(kill me lmao), A Lopunny set with more than just Fire punch to attack like HJK, and his Infernape has iron fist focus sash now.

-Lucian's Mr. mime has Filter now to reduce damage alongside Light Clay Dual Screens and STAB, Muscle Band Medicham with great coverage, Sap Sipper Girafarig with Trick Room, Bronzong with Trick Room and 3 attacks with a Berry(seems to run a lot of low speed natures to for the trick room portion of his team) and he has an Alakazam with Life Orb and Magic Guard.

-Cynthia's 1st team- Spiritomb has a Sitrus berry and sucker punch/Shadow ball now, Roserade has an expert belt and better coverage moves, Gastrodon has Storm Drain and Leftovers and Scald, Her Lucario has a Nasty Plot special set with Wiseglasses, Milotic has Flame Orb Marvel Scale with recover and good attacks and of course the Yache Berry SD Garchomp

TLDR: Game has much better teams even in base game

I think it's that they're better than Platinum's
Credit where credit's due, these rematches are substantially better than Platinum's- easily the most challenging ingame content the series has ever had (ie. not counting battle facilities).
That's fair at least, these seem to be phenomenal PvE battles in a series where difficulty is normally relegated to NPC trainers spamming Full Restores. Pretty cool to see actual battles at the level of some of the more iconic 386/493 ROM hacks. Just disappointed that that seems to be the only substantial improvement from the originals.
