You know some of us think that both Metroid fans and Zelda fans are pretty over the top ri-

Statistically since there are more Mario fans then Zelda fans

There would then be statistically more Right wing Mario fans then there statistically right wing Zelda fans

So by appealing to Mario fans over Zelda fans you are therefore appealing to fascist
. . .wait

wait what the hell is going on

capitalism doesn't exist in the Mario universe because any time you collect 100 coins they just disappear

Capitalism And full indrusialsim has usually n9t been invented yet in Zelda

There sometimes ancient magic tech

And the goron are usually a bit ahead in industrialization and ofcourse the train game

But the means for anti capitalist socialist movements to exist in hyrule are not there

Do we want to talk about Hyrule's immigration policies? Or all the subtext that comes along with Ganondorf? 😉

Ganondorf believes in proto randian poltics

And staved the gorons. Killed the tree that protects forest dwellers and freezed the zoras

The hyrule monarch always included the input of zora goron rito when they exist and non hylian humans

Reading into the "subtext" of a Nintendo game strikes me as a remarkably futile exercise.

I would say something about this conversation, but honestly Splatoon subtext is so all over the map I wouldn't even know where to begin on if and how it shapes up in comparison.

You have a bunch of hyper-capitalist but diversity-welcoming hedonists who take advantage of the efforts of a hive mind labor force going up against a hyper industrialist civilization brainwashed both literally and via propaganda who only launch assaults because their civilization is crumbling and the aforementioned capitalists refuse to offer aid or even acknowledge they exist, both coded Japanese. And then there's a third civilization that the capitalists literally steal the infants of for profit but has also had a long history of mass slaughtering the capitalists in blind frenzies, but it's coded. . .redneck American?

And the whole thing is backlit by a lingering green aesop because humanity caused the apocalypse and then died out, but the world that came after them isn't really any different.

What I'm saying is I'm not good at politics but Splatoon lore is entertaining OK

Melee newcomers are weird.

Only 3 new franchises, 2 retros and one was Japan only, but even then it seems really low count.

Then the game is padded with 6 clones.

But oddly with Peach, Bowser, Zelda, Ganondorf & Mewtwo included, they managed to include by far most important secondary characters (at the time at least) from Nintendo franchises.

Donkey Kong Country is the story of brave natives fighting against imperialist invaders looking to annex their land.

Wario feels the most missing of any character. He was in practically every Mario game on the N64.

Estelle beats up a robot made by an overweight facist leader with orange hair who used to be a businessman and got into power by outright lying to people.

That game came out in 2011 btw.

As a kid in 2001, I was very confused by Melee's lack of Wario, Diddy Kong, and Banjo & Kazooie. I was 10 years old and obviously knew nothing of deadlines, budgets, or corporate politics. The total absence of Banjo-Kazooie content especially baffled me; Banjo-Kazooie was one of my favorite games ever, and Tooie had released only a year prior to Melee.

It's funny they still come up with that idea when Mr G&W now takes on the appearances of the source games for his attacks meaning there's even less room for an original female character design since they'd constantly be reverting to the "male" form.

Saying that, the true Gs suggest this guy from GameBoy Gallery as an echo:

latest

(This is ignoring the fact that Game&Watch's animations are so unique they really can't be applied to another model and work.)

Or we take it one step further and make the echo the duck enemy from Wario Land 2 since the Flagman bonus game in WL2 literally is a reskin of the flagman game from GameBoy Gallery:

Basically, you can judge an individual's level of Nintendo Coolness by who they suggest as an echo for Mr Game & Watch and it seems most YouTubers are just Nintendo Squares.
Somehow I had never seen the original Gameboy Gallery boxart, this is incredible.

I think it proably would apply to another model, yo ujust need to make the horrifying flesh & watch also a flatted model with a texture on it.

Relatively, Brawl included most of the missing characters that were odd, Smash 4 had good recent inclusions but missed couple of big ones with Ridley & K. Rool, and with Ultimate large majority of biggest characters are in.

Dixie and what not Still missing are relatively smaller (although granted I guess there is debate between Dixie vs K. Rool?).

What has been constant is that all Smash games have weird picks. And they somehow still keep happening lol

The heroic white Hylians have to defend their lands from that evil invading brown Gerudo man.

Like... Yikes, bro. Yikes. Zelda subtext is highly problematic.
jokes aside I am convinced this reading is why they purposely made Ganondorf, Koume & Kotake have a green tinge to their skin (well the witches are just straight up green, but whatever)

as opposed to the actual brown skin color every other gerudo has
