Speaking of DJ, I wish there was any indication he'll be back even for a damn cameo.
There was poll here after TLJ came about who was the worst character in Star Wars.
Rose came in at #2 or #1.

So I was curious what characters the other ST posters show and I noticed that Holdo isn't even on the TLJ poster either although she has an important role. Also for some reason those red guards in Snoke's throne room are on the poster lol...
Still that's not a good look for Lucasfilm and if the designs weren't finished yet why present them at all? Just seems vile to remove her afterwards.

I mean she crashed her vehicle against his. Realistically, she'd have killed them both and even if they both didn't die, the First Order would've kill them off as they should have damages too extensive to walk back to the base. I'm talking broken limbs/spines and profuse bleeding.
Anyways, it's more that she's a representative of a storyline that lots of people didn't enjoy along with giving a groan-worthy line followed by an out of nowhere kiss. I mean even my little cousins next to me groaned hard at that.
Lack of screentime didn't prevent Boba Fett from being huge in the merch leading up to ESB
These are mostly backward. Artist reference for Rose came in late so many artists had to create their pieces without her originally and then add her in. Products that went to manufacturing before that would have done so without her. That's literally what happened with the art on the Topps card.
Yeah I think I would put some of the racist stereotype characters worst.
Or the Hayden Christensen version of Anakin for his obnoxious arrogance 'I'll take him now' and creepy 'romanctic' lines. I'll even put Darth Maul worse (the PM version) because he had no character at all, he was just a cool looking video game boss. The worst thing Rose does is one line about love people found corny and saving Finn.
It's indeed this. She's (in?) literally everything that keeps TLJ from being legit good.
The guards are a big part of TLJ's poster because the Lucasfilm associate charged with assisting in building a unified vision for the film's marketing aesthetic chose red as a big part of it. It's a passionate color, and love it or hate it, TLJ is a passionate film. lol
Also, that lightsaber fight with them was hype as hell anyway.

No kidding, She wasn't a great character in TLJ along with a slew of other characters, they even managed to make characters we though where going to be more important and front and center from the first film into terrible forgettable ones in TLJ, Abrams is trying to rescue what's left of the story in one last film since the powers that be insist it has to be a trilogy and some characters
just aren't going to make the cut as essential parts of the the last arc so it makes no sense they have to be front and center on the merchandise. Everyone still gets a toy and gets their turn in the bargain bin behind the jar jar action figures this is Star Wars after all.

Even a cursory examination of the characters in TFA and TLJ reveals that while most of the main characters were running from something/someone in the name of self-preservation (Han, Rey, Finn, Luke, Kylo) - even if it meant self-destructing, ironically enough - Rose was willing to run towards something - directly into the fray if necessary - in order to preserve their sense of selves. It seemed that neither self-destruction or self-sacrifice was on her mind, it was just the right thing to do.
This goes for Holdo as well, though Laura Dern didn't seem to get crap by playing Holdo, for some reason heh.

Pathetic assholes put in overtime to tear the character and the actress down. It would be incredibly disappointing and disgusting if Disney and Abrams budged here.
They could have casted Meryl Streep and it still would have been the worst thing in that movie. Literally a "power of love" romantic plot device in the 21st century.
It's a complete disservice to whatever real inclusive character it could have been.

I know, it's also the reason why you see tons of stormtroopers behind Phasma on the TFA poster... but it's still weird in how they decide what characters goes on the poster. I can understand they didn't put Snoke on it because big reveal and all that but almost all characters are on it and then someone rolls a dice and goes "let's remove Holdo" or how does that work?
It doesn't matter if she was a great character or not. She was a major character in TLJ, she'll be in ROS too, so let's put her on the poster.

Honestly it seems pretty obvious she will be a minor character in this movie.
I think people are jumping to conclusions about the reasons though. I don't think it has anything to do with "backlash" from a vocal internet minority.
Rose was a fine character but also nothing special beyond being an Asian character in Star Wars, which was neat. There was never any reason she had to be a main/significant supporting character in TROS just because she was in TLJ. Her arc in TLJ was completed and made sense. They could have done more with her, but they certainly don't have to. Sometimes characters are only prominent for one movie or one section of a story. There's nothing wrong with that.
This movie is also introducing a brand new character, Jannah, who will likely have her own arc to go through -- along with balancing the addition of at least a couple other new returning characters (Lando and Palpatine).

Phasma was in like 90 seconds of TLJ and she still got to be on merch. Granted, you don't have to pay for likeness rights royalties with a costume that hides the actor's face, but still.
Seems like she simply left the franchise and said "I'm outa here and everything Star Wars".
